We build our 1000hp 1.8t/16v Engine package for our MK3 Drag car. This one uses a 1.8T bottom end, and a 16v cylinder head. Lots more coming with this thing but this was a big step forward in getting this to the track.

It really shows how much these engines are limited and choked down from the factory.. especially a 1.8t with the dumb n75 valve..249 valve..and a tiny lil itty-bitty KO3S turbo...that totally bleeds off boost pressure.. electronically limited.. turbo comes alive at 2200 but dies at 3000..that is just dumb

When i was growing up turning wrenches in the late 80's early 90's before the web you had to know someone who had a shop and this experience to build things like this and now it's virtually free on the web. Lots of trial and error back then... Wish i had more to give but you guys deserve a lot for the specificity of your content. I put a 93 GSR in my 87 CRX and we custom-fabbed engine mounts and distributors to get the car running on OBD0. Just had that thought going down memory lane. Cheers and Regards again

Really really nice build and lots to like about it. Looked like they were machining the head for bigger valves/ seat rings? Are you sealing the main girdle with the white adhesive or did you machine a groove for a spagetti seal? Notching those valve reliefs in the pistons probably only removed a few tenths of a gram so rebalancing probably not required? keep rolling.....

What sleeves did you use? L.A. sleeve? and are they welded top and bottom? I wonder if you could have had them plated after like Nickie's Great build guys you are an inspiration to a old VW racer. Awesome build guys, excited to see what this setup does. Quick question, seems like you guys checked valve/ piston clearance a ton of times, more than you’d expect a typical machine shop to do building a customer engine maybe? Looked like you’re also running a pretty high CR, is there a benchmark CR where you really need to begin paying attention to valve clearance? I’m running 10:1 and have an adjustable pulley I plan to play with but not sure how carefully the shop that assembled the ending would have checked that. Hard to imagine them taking the care you guys took.
@COMotorsports
@COMotorsports Жыл бұрын
A lot of things to factor in... so definitely not a straight cut answer. We checked valve to piston clearance so much because I wanted to have movement in the cams. So we'd check it timed, we'd check it as far as we could go each way on the sprocket, then did it all again once I had the pistons cut. This way I know how far each way I can go when adjusting it without having a concern. Compression, cam lift, valve size, how pistons were cut initially, head gasket thickness, how much the head and block have been decked... there are endless things to contribute to it. Hence why it's worth doing.

No this is older 16v head, however a 2.0t FSI head could work also. I was going to go that route but didn't want to deal with the lifters at high RPM.

@@COMotorsports That particular block is an EA-113 block (06A family with the timing-belt driven waterpump and chain driven oil pump - among other things). All blocks prior to that are in the EA-827 family dating back to the early 1970s (when VW Group acquired Audi for their expertise in water cooled engines). EA-827 has an external waterpump driven by an accessory belt, and have an intermediate shaft which drives the internal oil pump).

Hey there man, I know its rather tedious to talk to a next man crowd, but for those of us, especially me I'm a Vdub all the way, was wondering is the 2e (Mk1 - Mk3 bottom ends, the EA, ABY the ABF as well compatible with the 20v heads, or are there any oil or water ports that need to be modified. Apart from sproket spacing of course. My final question, apologies for the stretch but is any belt running Dub blocks compatible with belt running heads. And how'd you switch out the oil pump. Would love a detailed video😂😭. Much love from South Africa, me and my pops currently modifying a 2.5 diesel block to fit the old WB heads 5 cyl 10v.
@COMotorsports
@COMotorsports 11 ай бұрын
I haven't done what you've asked so I can't say. Belt length, belt alignment, head gasket, and head studs are the common hurtles between blocks/heads. But if you think of the blocks that 16v heads have been swapped too, and think that I've swapped a 16v head on a 20v block.. then you can kind of piece together what can work. Again the things listed above are generally what need to be addressed.

@@Jpuds95 Never said that on this channel, must have heard that elsewhere. There's lots of big cams for the 1.8ts, I just didn't want to deal with the tiny valve train that the 1.8t has, and the quickest VW in the world is a 16v... so it's what I stuck with.

Yes u say cause u did 😅.. also 8v head can be swapped on 1.8T engine? Doed it have sense? Or better to use 8v engine straight forward? Maybe it is too old then huge performance difference if using 1.8T bottom as world record engine?
