A few drivers have won the championship in the season they took their maiden race wins. Though admittedly the last one was Keke Rosberg in 1982.

@@dominicbarden4436well of course and i remember that 1982 season Keke won only one race that year and won the WDC it was maybe one if not the weirdiest and the craziest f1 season ever have good thing and bad ones and sad ones 😢 and on Lando case i think the Mclaren should have the fastest car over any one and Red bull is not competitive and Lando can win the WDC in 2024 if not i cant see it but he can win his first F1 win and it be realy crazy if Mclaren dont win this year after the form they finish the season from the second half let see 😮🎉

Perez won’t go to VCARB. I recall hearing that Redbull don’t have the power to move him about like their other drivers, he wouldn’t want to be in that team and it doesn’t benefit him if he gets dropped in mid season next to an embedded Tsnuoda who then beats him. He’d just take time out and line up a move for next year if he’s staying in F1 and then VCARB would get Lawson back in. Don’t expect there to be a mid season swap but that’s mainly because I don’t think Redbull will be pressured enough to do it

unless when finally no one puts hope in ferrari they suddenly get pole position by one second in bahrain (but as expected leclerc has a very hard time holding verstappen off because red bull is still better in race) then perez is out of luck

Yep, I agree.. If he is *that* bad he will just be dropped entirely and Ricciardo or Tsunoda will be promoted depending on results, if nothing special is produced from either VCARB driver during the first half of the year I can see them just defaulting to Ricciardo. My feeling is he will see the season out and either get a 1 year extension if he improves or be dropped. My reasoning for seeing the season out is purely sponsorship reasons and they will only drop Perez if he's completely gone and other teams are so close that it's harming their championship. He won't have much of an argument if that happens. I'm hopeful he can atleast leave the team on a high though.

It will be like lightning and both Max and Checo will be able to handle de car. The only other winner this year: Fernando Alonso. The VCaRB's will both have a podium.

I really hope that Lando wins a race this year, it would be a huge moral boost for him and the team. Charles is the best qualifier ever walked the earth but man he's bad at choices and race pace. In a 5 lap sprint race he would demolish everyone, but after 5 laps he deflates like a helium balloon. Against Max he's like James Hunt against Lauda. James was faster, but he lack the consistency and racecraft.

5:25 I am with you on this one. Merc is basically starting from day 1 with a new car concept while other teams (esp Red Bull) are 2+ years into this concept and already know what they are doing.

@@robh9577 and that's only if they truly understand what was causing most of their problems in the first place. I think the zero side pod thing is overused as an excuse. I think the issues were more related to the suspension. Which Red Bull got right from the start.

@@hankrearden5460 100%.. they carried a longer wheelbase and tons of drag/downforce before thanks to their large engine advantage, and it definitely did not translate to this rules set. They had an acceptable drag number based on their previous success, and carried it over to this car, but also fumbled the switch to bio fuel and lost power exposed their drag issues.. plus the whole porposing deal, which was not enough rear body downforce to leave the car sealed rather than pogo-ing everywhere.

⁠Merc weren't really down on power with their engine. See: McLaren and Williams pace. Their design was just bad.

@wiegraf9009 McLaren had a decent car underneath them the last half which helped, but Williams ran with zero drag, Aston's main complaint was no top speed, and merc couldn't get out of their own way on the straightaways. All the merc powered teams suffered with power related speed issues since 2022 and the new fuels. If all 4 teams struggle its not a coincidence

my fav time of year - new sponsors, liveries, hopes....testing makes us all go bonkers. Theres always a defriez 'oh no he's about to lose his seat' drama in the first three months when someone has a wobbly. Seeing the strengths and weaknesses of the new builds - F1 is one of few sports where each year there can be a big refresh of regular variables. while you might get the odd transfer in soccer you can get total flips in F1 aka Brawn. The year is long - the best part of it - the first four rounds of mystery are about to hit us so....hold me.

Hey Matt & Tommy! I have one small criticism for the Mercedes comment, asking "Well, what did it feel like before hand?" perhaps implying they did something stupid. To be fair to Mercedes, the W13/14 design was a first attempt at a totally new rule set that lead to the development of these new ground effect cars. Therefore, isn't there a fair chance that the engineers simply thought these cars might just feel bad to the drivers naturally because of the new rules, and not because of their specific design? This would help explain a number of things, like why a team like Mercedes could get it so wrong for so long, and why Mercedes hyped the W14 to the moon despite it being based on the same design as the W13.

I do not get the skepticism about AM's performance next year. Silverstone just had their best season in the last 15 years under AM management. They still have an excellent team with excellent infrastructure. They're not gonna be washed

By their own admission they kind of fluked into their early performance and their subsequent upgrades were bad. There's reason to be skeptical.
