Our homeschool is so similar to yours. Almost to the t. I love the idea of printing out smaller versions of the artist prints and hanging them up. I will also be checking out the composer study resource. We use the menu holders for our recitation too.

Love your video! Very inspiring to see you pulling together your own CM curriculum. It's great to see all your choices. Have you ever looked into Christine Miller's All Through the Ages? It's a wonderful book or books! She lists books for the different time periods for all the various reading levels as well as listing timelines of events and listing the books by geographical location. You may enjoy that resource in the future instead of the Beautiful Feet guides.

So cool and encouraging to see someone a little ahead of us making similar choices and enjoying them! I love the insights, and resources ideas for solfa - we just moved into Form IA and I need to learn about that 😅 so I can add it too! You are adding to my shopping list, haha! I’ve been eyeing the mapmaking book and the Holling maps for a while now. Where do you get the older version of the Christian Liberty Nature Readers? I need to find those. I love that you are trying to stay true to Charlotte Mason but still implement things that aren’t exactly how she did it but using it in as CM of a way as possible. We have also tweaked a few things, but trying to stay true to the beautiful method!

This is such an encouraging comment - thank you! We really do strive to stay true to her method, but with the addition of 100 years of updated research since then! I got the nature readers from Amazon, and they're honestly my very favorite nature study books we have!

That's a great question! Elementary Arithmetic follows a very different scope and sequence from more traditional math programs, so things like calendar, telling time, geometry, etc. aren't covered in the first couple of years (I simply added those in on my own). However, it does develop a very solid number sense and really gets students comfortable with mental math and problem solving. Everyone will feel differently about what they want a math program to cover, so I think it's important to identify your goals for your homeschool and keep that in mind when selecting a program. I'm happy to answer any other questions you have about our experience with it!

How is the simply charlotte mason arithmetic 3. Do you feel like it is enough for a 3rd grade education?
@abeautifullywreckedlife
@abeautifullywreckedlife Жыл бұрын
Hi Amy! Thanks so much for your question! We aren't to Elementary Arithmetic Book 3 yet, so I can't really answer your question about it specifically. However, I've been impressed so far with the first two books, and I feel like the curriculum really meets the child where they are to challenge them. If you haven't already, you might check out the book samples to see if the scope and sequence is sufficient for you to meet your state's requirements. I hope that helps!

What does your day look like?
@abeautifullywreckedlife
@abeautifullywreckedlife Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your question, Jenny! I am actually editing a video right now where I go into detail about scheduling and planning a Charlotte Mason homeschool year - including our daily routine. The short answer is that we only do a handful of subjects 5 days per week (reading, writing, math, spelling, poetry, handicrafts, PE), and we do others (such as geography, history, literature) 2-3x per week. We start each day with Morning Basket, which usually takes 30-45 minutes, and then move into what I call Seat Work. That usually takes us 1.5-2 hours, depending on the day. We're always finished with lessons by noon, and then my oldest son works on his Afternoon Occupations (handicraft, piano practice, drawing/painting, etc) independently for about an hour every afternoon. I hope that helps!

I am going to be starting homeschooling next year with my rising 3rd grader Lily who is currently 7. I am doing lots of research. My question is, this is a lot of material. How is it worked in to a school week?
@abeautifullywreckedlife
@abeautifullywreckedlife Жыл бұрын
Hi Holly! First of all, YAY for beginning your homeschool journey! Second, that's an excellent question! A lot of the subjects that we cover are only taught 2-3 times per week. We do Bible, math, reading, spelling, recitation, handicraft, poetry, Spanish, and handwriting every single day. But the rest are only a couple times a week, and when it's all spread out, it's very manageable. Also, most subjects are between 15-20 minutes long each day, and some (like poetry and handwriting) are even less. In our homeschool, we cover about 13 subjects per day and get all of our schooling done in 3 hours. So it seems super overwhelming to see that entire list, but once you get your timetable figured out, it's actually very doable and provides a lot of variety each day! I hope that helps!

Does your son have a difficult time remembering what happened last in the books you don’t read super frequently? Wow so many aspects to a CM education! I am overwhelmed but also intrigued.

As long as we read each book at least once a week (like Pilgrim's Progress and the Wonder Book), he's always able to tell me where we left off. After a school holiday I always go back and reread a few paragraphs (or pages, depending on the book) to refresh our memories. This was an honest concern of mine when we first started, but it really hasn't been an issue. Kids' capacities to remember details is pretty impressive!
