I love the thought process that you are putting into your design. I'm guessing not many people would seek out the advice of a professional chef when designing their galley. Most would probably be like "Here's the galley, deal with it." This is why your build series is one of my favorite things to watch on KZfaq!

I like how you've expanded the galley visually to the far wall. It seems more open while still reserving a somewhat private space for the chef past the bar area. I think it makes things feel more inviting for the guests as well - and you have an amazing assortment of refrigeration and cooking options. Nice job!

Hi Victoria, you and Nina did a great job of presenting the galley for your Bearing 75. I love the pictures of the kitchen fixtures and why they were picked. You also did a great job of explaining the materials going to be used in the kitchen surfaces. Keep up the great videos. I am now following Nina on her channel. You two are a dynamite team. If your counter top is really that durable, maybe you can have them make a couple of cutting boards of different sizes for you. That way, they can be left out temporarily or even used as charcuterie boards. As a beekeeper, I add chunks of honey to our boards when we have company. Just a small tip. Enjoy your content of both channels. My favorite would be the 72.

Great kitchen, I would love to have that in my appartment 😀 Actually, the next time I can set up one, I want your huge sink! Only one comment: with the sockets, try to have them everywhere and spread them out. The bevel below the raised counter at the seats sounds like a great place for at least 2 and also along every counter space. This allows you to move the appliences if needed or to use mobile appliances as needed. An unused socket doesn't get into the way, especially if nicely covered, but a missing socket means running ugly extensions across your counters. So I would basically have one (or a double one) every 60 cm.
@greatpix
@greatpix Жыл бұрын
My personal opinion, you can never have too many electrical plugs in the kitchen. Maybe have them placed every 24"'. That way you can use appliances with shorter cords so they're not creating a messy cluster you're constantly trying to untangle. Also, pick up some velcro straps or other means to quickly tidy up cords. A friend of mine cut up some plastic pipe 1 1/2" or 2" in diameter and 4"-5" long, painted the outside so they looked nice and shoved the folded up cords through them. Worked like a charm. I would think if there's square pipe available it would keep the empty pipe from rolling around when empty.

I would certainly have sockets spaced out along under the bar. I would also have some place two or three inches down from the underside on the guest side just in case.

Oh boy where do I start on receptacle locations. Agree with the gentleman about 24" centers. But I would install double duplex receptacles. One to the left of the sink centered, one in the corner, one over in the coffee corner, two to the right of the stove. And make sure each is on their own circuits. Do not combine because if you have multiple items plugged in, this might overload the breaker and trip it. And use 20 GFI receptacles. Also the receptacles to the right of the stove, have one duplex with the USB charging port. I will send you a diagram with specs. Chow. 😉
@marvindebot3264

THIS! You can never have too many outlets but it's easy to have too few. As Vincent said, make sure one or two of the outlets have USB chargers built into them for recharging things such as temperature probes. As Nina said, the chef needs a shell for their radio and phone, consider a wireless charger built into that shelf.

Totally agree with Nina on the matte option for the counter top. Looks much more fitting for the kitchen. Unpolished marble work surfaces have been used in bakeries and kitchens for hundreds of years. Polished stone is ostentatious for one of the most important working areas of a boat, save the polished finishes for the heads.

I personally like the drawer method of storing spices but in round containers with glass lids with rubber seals to keep them fresh with a label on top so you can clearly identify the color and name of each spice. Then I like to divide the drawer with square dividers to keep them organised and to stop them from sliding around. Where are you storing the plates, bowls, mugs, cups, cutlery etc.? Draws with organization pegs are usually the best on boats for plates and bowls, and boards fitted in the drawers with the diameter of the glasses and mugs drilled out to keep everything neat and secure. I am all about ergonomics, efficiency, and keeping things tidy by giving everything a home.

Hey, I really like the attention to detail in your boat's design, especially the kitchen. Here are some thoughts: - Maybe add outlets in the kitchen that can take USB-C cables next to the regular plugs. It would mean people don't have to bring adapters to charge their phones, especially under the overhang where it might be common. - Have you considered integrating wireless charging into the levitated bar countertop? If it's not too complicated, it might be a convenient feature. Though it might be tricky?! - A warming drawer under the steam oven could be a practical addition and wouldn't take up too much extra space and could be used to warm dishes. - Make sure the sink and induction cooktop are level with the countertop. It'll make cleaning easier. I hope these suggestions are helpful. Thanks for letting me share my ideas!

I don't know anything about on board water makers but I will share what some cooks have told me. The quality of the water has a big effect on how food and drinks taste. My understanding is that some water purifiers will add certain minerals back into the water to improve taste. I remember when Snapple was first available on the West Coast. People said it wasn't as good as they remember it being in NY. It turns out to have been the water that made the difference.

I love these kinds of discussions! You have put so much thought into the galley! It is gorgeous already!!! I don't know anything about professional chefs and galleys.... but I use so many paper towels and hand towels...places for those should be thought out...and also...where will the chef get recipes??? Is there a need to set up a place/stand for an Ipad (or other tablet) if anything needs to be looked up. ... if the guests sit at the counter, they will want salt and pepper and extra napkins... You don't want the chef having to run off somewhere to retrieve napkins. Also... I always keep salt at hand right at the stove. Yes, my stove gets it's own shaker that is not allowed to wander around the kitchen. If your microwave is a combo convection/ microwave, then that gets you an additional oven, but I don't know that you need it. .... and my new favorite $25 kitchen appliance...a crepe maker! ...so easy and so delicious! Oh!!! Where are you getting water! And ICE!!! Do you have an ice maker? ...back to the water... I am guessing there is no water filter in the fridge, so will the water from the tap be drinking water quality...reverse osmosis and all that jazz? Maybe all the ship's water is that way from the water maker, so there is no further filtration... So... would a guest always have to ask for a drink of water, or would they wander into the galley to the sink to get water, or is there another place to refill a glass of water?..I am guessing the bathroom sink would not be ideal. Would you have an instant hot water tap anywhere? I have also seen taps in the kitchen that dispense sparkling water. I might put another small little sink over by the microwave where people can wash their hands without automatically going into the galley, and they could also grab cold water or hot water for tea or sparkling water. It might be over the top, but just a thought to keep people (even your crew) out of the chef's way.

When I ripped out and rebuilt the interior of my RV, I put outlets every 6 feet, top and bottom (sound system, TV, Starlink etc in the uppers, my computer, fridge, range etc etc in the lowers), and I still find I need additional outlets for things and have to plug in Power strips on a cpl of them. The more outlets (within your boats ability to manage draw from them), the better in my thoughts.

You are good to go on the Dekton countertop! I think matte finish would look awesome over polished. Especially in the design pattern you’ve picked. It mimic’s natural stone so matte is better. Lots of great tips and things to think about in setting up a kitchen or galley. Victoria, in visiting the home of a husband and wife architect team in Istanbul, they had the counters around the sink slightly pitched to the sink and the sink rim flush with the countertop. That always stuck with me as it made the cleanup so much easier as any moisture always drained into the sink. Having sailed across the ocean I know at sea everything can be pitched in the galley unlike on land....yet an idea to throw in the mix.

With the space available, your galley is really impressive. Pro input makes a big difference (and the last changes giving you more space for extra freezer etc). Most yachts this size have a 'owner galley', and while pretty, many of them are useless for real work. Yours will be great, and I think Nina is right... a better galley brings a better chef. More importantly, any chef will work so much better in the proper space. Congrats! 😊

Love the Galley design and the many innovative inclusions and their placements Ladies! Beautiful! Well done✨✨Love the Build updates👏👏 My lil suggestion, I have a Thermomix and love it! If you include one in your cooking arsenal, make the area above the Thermomix high enough to be able to include the Varoma steam cooking attachment and with bit more space above too, plus, if it can be done, include a extraction fan above it or very close to one for venting the heat/steam generated. Otherwise you’ll have dripping wet overhead cupboards! Or keep the Thermomix in an open area. The Thermomix has sensitive scales in its ‘feet’ it’s recommended not to drag it around in case of damaging those scales. Just happily sharing some info, cheers Jen n Co 💐🐨

Hello, put a hole on top of the garbage that can be covered with a lid. And that it is close to the work area or where the Chef has the cutting board. All the best. Good Kitchen!

I like that you decided to put the additional refrigeration against that outside wall as you already decided to close off that door. But I also thought that with a tabletop surface there it would be nice to push through provisions through a half top door onto the inside table and eliminate back a fourth through the galley or salon area with provisions.

Going by the blueprint you must have been able to find unique kitchen accessories. For example, I can only find Freezers in my area, but you have located the elusive "Frezeer" that is so hard to find! lol! 😉 jk! Love the layout, the attention to detail, and the images of the actual things going into your Yacht! I like that she does the spices and ingredients in containers the way i do because sometimes it's hard to get the things you want in sizes and shapes that fit in most spice holders and it's easier to just pour them into ones that fit into your storage areas! It can also let you "tweek" the flavors to be exactly the way you like them by adding and mixing ingredients together to have ready for special dishes! It's going to be an amazing build tocontinue to watch come together, plus, it's Nina approved!

Hmm... no talk at all about the most important kitchen tool of them all: the lights! I would make sure your galley is going to be comfortable when it's dark outside but can get SUPER BRIGHT when it's time to clean up - whether it's the daily cleanup or major cleanup :) Also, as a guest who would have tendencies towards seasickness, I would appreciate some super powerful ventilation in the galley, because it's connected to the living space on your boat.
