Hi there, thanks for the tips! We loved riding the bikes and enjoyed the fresh air. We covered almost the entire island during the day and it was really nice to be on our own and away from other tourists. If we go back to go snorkelling and we have a bunch of gear then we'll probably take the bus. Also not surprised about the shops. Shops in Western Australia generally aren't open very often :P bit of a joke between Perth and Sydney

@@guccigasbag2780 I’m learning that different states have their own system. I have no problem getting the safety check done each year for older cars. In fact I think it’s a good idea, very cheap and very quick in NSW if the car is in good nick. They’re only required once in WA, usually when you first purchase/register the car, so that’s why it was such a hassle for us. There are thousands of vehicles driving around this state that are not fit for the road. Thanks for the info!

@@WellFigureItOutSide it’s the same in Queensland when you purchase the car secondhand. Have to have a safety certificate.

@@WellFigureItOutSide There are no safety checks in WA. My daughter just had a car checked in Victoria where it is mandatory when buying a car- cost $300. Then she spent $1800 to get repairs done, and another $300 safety check. It's a bit unfair to pass judgement on a city because another state's rules gave you some grief.

@@zwieseler ​​⁠​⁠The safety checks in WA aren’t required annually as they are in some other states like NSW. Not sure that’s a great idea because one of the outcomes is that there are thousands of vehicles driving around WA that aren’t fit for the road. Last week we pulled over in the South West to help a bloke whose engine burst into flames in front of us. Lots of cars driving around at night have lights out, stuff like that. We love WA but we dont have to love everything or everywhere. We’re sharing our experiences and honest opinions. Perth wasn’t our favourite place and it wasn’t because of the car stuff.
