Hi Aimee. Your bird house is going to be a bird bath if you don't have any drainage holes in the bottom or some gaps in the sides to let the rain water out.

Please don't feed the birds in spring and summer. They will give it to their babies and they can die from it. Baby birds need insects. Rather make nesting boxes and plant plants that attract insects.

Yesss! I said this on the last video, I don't think they're big cat people and can't commit much to pets, but adopt some barn cats! They won't need much care and if you go away you could just leave out food - and they'll keep themselves fed on mice! The presence and smell of cats will also discourage mice from returning.

From the very first second of this video, I could not get over how this last week you both seem to have shed 10 years off your faces. Craig, you were just glowing while in that digger. Amy, your face was radiant, even in the gloom of the tool room. Obviously, after the long wait for occupancy, you are in your element, building and creating your dream spaces. So good to see you so utterly happy! Thank you for sharing the joy of even the smallest triumphs in moving those rocks and getting everything in order. It is such fun to see your vision emerging!!!

I agree, it seems to be a repeating phenomenon that for completing projects, one always seems to get the hang of the mechanics about the time you finish the project. Plus the way you get better is to build or make more than one. With each iteration your control and design ability will grow into better looking/functioning items. You go girl. Good job Aimee.

You could mouse proof your bus by looking for and sealing holes, covering sink drain, storing all food in mouseproof containers, staying on top of crumbs, disinfecting the area everytime you find a turd (they leave their smells behind to attract family & friends) plant peppermint and oregano in window boxes and keep the boxes around/under the bus and open door. Grow lots of peppermint elsewhere too. Mice find their way home unless taken 5 km away. You have thousands of mice in the fields around your house; you'll never catch them all....therefore deterring them is best. Bird food will attract rats and squirrels; you don't want either moving into your spaces. Owl decoys can be effective especially if you move them around. Rodents are very smart.

Mice even chew through heavy hard plastic! Metal & glass containers are the way to go. Please put all the “extra” bird food in a metal or glass containers because it will be a huge draw & a source of “food” for all the other critters. ☹️ Peppermint works, fairly well, but you have to keep repeating the treatments for any long term deterrent. Could try playing loud cats purring, dogs barking, owls hooting, wolves howling, High-pitched noises, etc. Use on constant repeat to help drive the mice away. Found my “sounds” on KZfaq! Living in the country is always a challenge to keep any mice outside. 🦉 🐈 🐶 🐺

When we lived in an area with Kangaroo Mice, we packed things in the heavy black garden trash bags. They didn't seem to like those and we didn't have any problems. Worth a try. Also, all that bird food will attract the mice so be sure to put the feeders far from your home(s). Love watching you learn and take on all these projects.

Love that you guys are apart of my sunday again. For the birdhouse you should get sealant for it to water proof it so the paint doesnt run and to help the wood not warp in the rain ❤ love it.

Sealant can be toxic, so don't use it on the inside of the bird house.

You have to take the mice 2 miles away or more. They have crazy abilities to find their way back to a food source to best to take them on a road trip to their new homes. A piece of "advice" - you should drill holes in the bottom of the birdhouse for drainage, otherwise the seed will just sit in the water when it rains. You guys look like you are having such a great time discovering this new phase of your lives!

Suggestion. Store the bird food in a metal sealed container. Like a garbage can. To keep those cute little mice out of it. Nice bird condo Amy!
