It was time to help out the old cement bird bath which had belonged to my parents. My mom said it was "special" because it was made by a friend. But with lots of cracks and chips, it wasn't looking very special these days.
Steve agreed to be my stained glass artist, and I decided that I wanted a sea turtle mosaic. Before he sold all of his stained glass in 2023, we pulled out some small pieces we thought would be helpful. Now it was finally time to get to work.
Many years ago, we'd volunteered to help on an amphitheater mosaic project at Camp Ocean Pines in Cambria -- I remembered a few of the steps, but had never tried doing a mosaic on my own. KZfaq videos helped. Our garage storage contained some dry grout and sealer, so the only thing I purchased was the "thinset" to adhere the glass to the cement.
It remains to be seen how well this holds together. But, we worked together and today the final project is sitting back in it's place in our front yard.
I do think my Mom would be pleased with the outcome. We are!
