I got an epidural with my 1st baby and it only numbed my legs, I felt everything and the catheter was the most painful feeling! I prayed to the Lord to give me strength with my 2nd baby since I didn’t want to go through that again with epidural and He delivered took my pain and worries and giving birth has been the most spiritual experience, just had our 3rd baby and we decided to do a home birth and it was the most beautiful experience of my life. All things are possible to those who believe. Mark 9:23

We had very similar experiences. My induction started Nov 6th and she was born Nov 8th, but everything from them trying to place the IVs (they attempted mine 6 times 😭) to the failed epidural. There were times I felt like you were literally sharing my birth story. Mine just ended in a c section after 28 hours of labor. It’s so crazy, but I’m so proud of you. That was NOT easy. You’re superwomen. ❤

I forgot I even had a baby! The Anesthesiologist tried about six times to get it in and he just couldn’t and I couldn’t take it anymore.. When I had my second son and I was scheduled for a C-Section on July 7th. I was in labor and my doctor said could not have him vaginal. So I went into labor on July 4th and the on call Doctor asked me if i wanted to have him today. Of course I said YES!! I had a spinal block and during my surgery I had a blood vessel ruptured. They called a code blue, called a vascular Doctor to come in, ALL my spinal block was gone on my right side. I was getting my tubes cut and burned...FELT IT ALL. The Anesthesiologist ran in started to give ALOT of Morphine. That was the worst experience in my life!! My son and I have an unique relationship and I cherish it so much!!

I never got an epidural, but I did get something in my IV that made me sleep between my contractions. I was only in the hospital 3 hours before my son came because I guess I was in labor the night before and didn't realize. Worse back pain I ever felt in heavy labor and I even broke my back before and that doesn't even come close to labor pains. I'm glad you were blessed with a great outcome. ❤

I got an epidural 48 hours into active labor and Stella came at 57.5 hours. I too was born with a heart defect and spiked a fever because my body was so stressed. It was a whole mess and Stella and I both had to be on IV antibiotics for 72 hours. Our hospital stay was also accompanied by the fire alarms with the strobes off and on for about the first 24 hours. They were working on the system.

I got an epidural when I was induced and personally, I had a positive experience. The initial needle did hurt but it wasn’t unbearable. I was pretty much numb waist down but still able to somewhat move. I definitely felt the pressure when it was time to push but thankfully, it was all pain free and was able to focus on just pushing and pulling baby out. God bless you guys! ❤

I think being induced that early, especially if your body hasn’t soften or started dilating, it can make the epidural much more painful. I got the epidural after labor started on its own. I was 3cm and my water had already broken….and compared to the contractions, it wasn’t that bad in comparison. Praying your next experience will be so much better! Thanks for sharing your story!!

My first epidural was great when it kicked in lol. It did its job especially since I had a 10 lb 13 oz boy. But the worse part was they had to put the needle in when I was having a contraction. My water had already broke which started my labor but the baby was moving during the contraction. That was the worse pain. The second epidural it did ok but I felt pressure on my left hip the whole time. Pushing the second time around was way more intense. My second was 9 lbs 10lbs but he came out in 5 minutes compared to my first took an hour to push. I experienced contractions very intensely the second time. You are a warrior momma for going through so much with your epidural.

I had all 3 of my kids Naturally (31,29,28) it’s been a minute but not much has changed and the first one and third one in my opinion were not as bad as I expected. It was all in my mindset but that 2nd one who came at 37wks who was still high and had not shown any signs of labor but my water broke and you have 24hrs at that point to deliver. My Dr was the worst man I have ever met!! He knew I needed a cesarean but he said NO we are doing this well I’m not gonna tell you the damage he did to me physically as well as emotional. You did an amazing job to be so young and no experience. I was so proud of you!!!

Was too late for the epidural when I had my son 29 years ago. Glad as over the years heard so many stories, even from my own Mom, who had headaches and could not nurse my brother(being the youngest, heard these stories all the time). Another was a woman I know that had nerve issues because of the epidural, she could have been paralyzed.

3 kids here no epidural. The ring of fire is real but the pain immediately goes away once you touch your baby. If you think of it as pressure not pain it helps a lot. You have to actively make yourself give into the contractions. Giving up control of your body is the hardest part.

I had 6 kids and learned quickly that after feeding and your holding baby hold her more on an incline for an hour after to reduce chance of spit up.always feed a baby on an incline as well... if you feed them as they lay flatter it increases chances of ear infections as well. Ive had 2 epidural but they didnt take affect till after my kids were born...so the other 4 I didnt have anything last child only took 30 min from start to finish.

I’ve gotten 2 epidurals but I didn’t get mine until 6.5cm with my first and then 9cm with my second (he came quick!) so at that point for me it didn’t hurt because my contractions were so much stronger than the pain of the epidural. I went naturally though for both so I feel like getting induced it would be harder trying to decide when to get it and I feel like it would be painful if contractions aren’t as intense! You’re a rockstar Soph! And yalls baby is so precious!!! Best gift ever!!! 💕

I know this is a very personal question, so please do not answer if you do not feel comfortable sharing online. Okay... here I go. When you say 5 natural births, do you mean homebirths? I ask because every pregnancy is different. How would you navigate whether to stay at home or go to the hospital when you do not know if something will go wrong (labor is long and stressful for baby/not progressing, baby's heartbeat is low, too much tearing down there for you to heal naturally/without stitches, baby is not breathing, etc.) I know there are midwives and online sources to help with these questions and concerns, but I wanted to ask a momma who has actually walked through making these decisions herself. I am not even married, let alone pregnant... but I have recently started dreaming of homebirth. I am not sure if I could handle the guilt of something going wrong in that situation though. Would my choice to be at home instead of the hospital be putting my baby at risk if something goes wrong? I want to do everything possible to protect and cherish my (hopefully, in the future) baby. ❤

My first epidural only worked on the right side and I could tell as soon as they put it in, it was only working on the right side. They also had me lay there to see if gravity would do the trick. It didn’t and a few hours later I got another one. I could tell instantly it was working on both sides. Not sure how to explain it, but the feeling was different than the first. I wonder if the placement was just not quite right for yours. It’s such a tiny space that they’re working with. Kudos to you for making it through “half numb”!

I had horrible experiences with my epidurals, the first one actually messed my back up permanently. I now struggle with severe arthritis and constant muscle spasms. That was 12 years ago. Had another with baby 2, and every time I felt it all. 3rd delivery was c section (super preemie twins.. 26 weekers.. praise Jesus, they’re perfect. Doctors called us their miracle patients). I had a different kind of block, couldn’t feel much besides tugging but when they inserted it they hit a nerve and my leg jerked. If you are able to do the next one without it I’d recommend it.

I’ve had 3 kids. One w a spinal block, one natural and the last w 2 epidurals that only numbed the left side. If I had to choose between all three I’d have to say the last was the most painful. When you can’t control the pain evenly throughout yr body it makes things 100% more tense. I’d rather go through 27 hrs of back labor w a spinal block or the 16 hrs natural than repeat the 12 hrs of 2 epidurals that only took on the left side. Congratulations on your daughter. She’s beautiful.

I had and epidural with my two pregnancies. The first one went smooth but I was so exhausted. I had been in labor for three days. My water broke naturally and I had an 8.5 pound 21 1/2 inch lil boy who is now 19 😊. My second epidural was a disaster they missed 4 times but I was in so much pain I was patient as possible to get it. My back is messed up from it along with the episiotomy I had to get. That was an experience all by itself. But I had a successful birth to a 9.5 pound 20 inch long boy who is now almost 16 😊. I am now a duck mom and have so many nieces and nephews to keep us busy. I wish you three the very best always. Congratulations on your sweet lil bundle of joy she is beautiful. 😊

I barely even felt a pinch from the needle and was numb all the way through. In 2004 I felt the pinch of the needle but the numbness was the same. I had a good experience.

Hated getting the epidural. My husband wasn’t allowed to be in the room so I was alone and that just made my anxiety so much worse. I had a horrible contraction as I was getting it and trying not to move was really hard. They ended up poking my spinal fluid sack and I had a spinal fluid leak. The worst pain I’ve ever had in my entire life your spinal fluid cushions and helps your brain float basically so my brain was literally sagging. I couldn’t even care for my daughter much for the first 3 weeks bc I was in excruciating pain. Im pregnant again right now and seriously considering going natural bc of how bad my experience was

I just had my baby yesterday! I received a cytotech pill and the foley balloon at the same time. The foley balloon scared me but it didn’t hurt at all for me. It immediately started working and those contractions were crazy. The epidural hurt for me because they said the space was so narrow for me. It hurt a lot for me as well! I was having terrible contractions at the same time though so it was worth it! I constantly had to be turned because the epidural wasn’t spreading for me as well! It actually wore off a bit by the time it came to pushing but it was nothing compared to the first contractions. My whole entire labor was only 14 hours total which I was not prepared for since it’s my first baby and expected it to be longer. Congrats you too!

I had an epidural with my 1st and it was horrible. When they pulled it out something went wrong and I was leaking spinal fluid. It gave me the worst headache of my life times a million while I was standing and as soon as I would lay down the pain would go away. They had to inject my own blood into my back in hopes that the blood would clot the hole and would stop the fluid from leaking.. which it did. That scared me so much that I actually did not have an epidural at all for my second and went with an all natural water birth. Congratulations on the safe delivery!

@@joudian Oh no! I am so sorry you had to go through that too. I know they said it was pretty rare. The lady drawing my blood for the procedure had literally never heard of this, which did not make me feel very good. I think they called it a blood patch. I really enjoyed the water birth and I spent the whole second pregnancy prepping myself mentally for the natural labor and delivery.

It’s crazy how different it is for everyone! By the time they came in to give me my epidural I was having some good contractions. I only felt the numbing shot and not really anything else. But my water broke WHILE I was getting it and the contractions got sooooo bad. They had to wait in-between contractions to continue to give it to me. About 15-20 minutes later I was completely numb from the waist down. Never felt a thing about that other than the pressure to know when to push. My birth/induction was a breeze, but post partum was ROUGH.

I went all natural with Pitocin after my water broke with my first, was in labor for 21 hours with her and pushed for an hour. With my second baby, I had a completely unmedicated home birth, was in labor for 4 hours, pushed for one. To say the least, my second baby was by FAR the easy labor and birth! He was even bigger too!

I had the similar thing happened to me. I got the epidural, but it didn’t work only worked on my right side I didn’t want to get it redid so I could feel the contractions. Her heart rate dropped as well so I had to be flipped and rotated and put on oxygen to get her heart rate back up.

No with my first son I had to have an emergency C-section and they stuck me 11 times with the epidural needle and it feels like just a big bolt of lightning going down your body is what it felt like to me after 11 times I told them no more so they put me to sleep... Now with my daughter my husband really wanted to be in the room.. so we had a birth plan they were going to try three times if it didn't work I would have to be put too sleep. Thank God on the third try it did work and always will but honestly after those experiences we decided we wanted to know more that my body wasn't suited for pregnancy I had preeclampsia and toxemia with both of my children. You guys are so inspiring and I know that baby is going to be loved beyond belief and wish you Many many more successful deliveries ❤️

My epidermal experience was honestly good. They performed it while I was mid contraction which felt worse than the shot so I think that helped. I always tell people that the sensation of the epidermal reminded me less of an actual shot and more similar to the feeling of hitting the nerve near your elbow, like hitting your funny bone but a worse version. I was completely numb the entire remaining portion of labor and then child birth. I couldn’t feel any contractions after I got the shot, to the point that I had to be told when to push bc I couldn’t feel anything. I was super grateful for the epidural bc it allowed my body to actually relax. Prior to the shot I was only 3 centimeters dialated and it wasn’t progressing in that department but bc of the epidural I literally went from 3 centimeters to 10 centimeters in less than 20 min. It happened so quickly there was no time for the catheter so I was ready for delivery so fast thanks to the epidural. Congrats on your baby girl. I’m really happy it went well. She is so beautiful. Enjoy every moment. Time is going to go so fast from this point forward. I feel like I just had my daughter not long ago but she is graduating high school this year. So crazy.

Momma of 3 here! A 5yr old & 16 month old & 3 month old. Got the epidural with our oldest. No issues! Got the epidural with our middle child and the med student missed so many times it cause me to have a spinal leak. So I was rushed to the er the same day we got to come home to have a blood patch done. Didn’t have an epidural with our last because 1. I didn’t want it and 2. I was at an 8 when we got to the hospital so there was no time lol

My mom had a epidural with 4 out of 6 kids. I am one she had the epidural with and my mom said the same! She said the Pitocin and epidural make labor soooo much more painful than it actually needs to be.😢 She had my almost 2 year old sister at home without a epidural or Pitocin and said her labor was not no where near as painful. When you have a baby naturally my mom said the crowning of the head burns like a ring of fire but once you have the head out you have it! Your experience might be different, but this was my mom’s and was completely pain free other than the crowning of the head!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ I am only 20 going on 21 and don’t have any kids yet so I personally can’t tell you my experience, but can tell you my mom’s ❤❤❤❤❤❤ I also have an older sister. I am the 2nd born. My mom was sooo scared to get a epidural with her first baby so she just got Pitocin without epidural. My oldest sister my mom said that was the most painful experience she has ever had even though with the epidural she could still feel it but was able to manage the pain better! Her most easiest experience was with my little sister that is almost 2 and she had her at home in the bathtub All natural❤
