Our Campervan Is INFESTED! Worst Week Of Vanlife
This USA vanlife vlog is a little different from what we intended to be sharing this week - because our campervan got INFESTED with flies! It was easily the worst week of vanlife we've ever experienced.

⭐ About Travel Beans:
Welcome to the official Travel Beans KZfaq channel! On this channel, you’ll find a variety of travel and vlog content, in which you’ll see us in places like Thailand, Japan, USA, Slovenia, and more.
In 2017 we left home with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a sustainable travel lifestyle happen! We are now living our dream as digital nomads and want to inspire you to create your own story, whatever it may be!
After 5 years of aimless, yet enjoyable, backpacking around the world we found ourselves in New York City battling with depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on. After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle.
Our time spent battling depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. In our vlogs, we talk openly and honestly about our travel experiences, the digital nomad life and depression. We hope our videos can help to inspire you to create a life that makes you happy!

Check the outside of your van. I still think that mouse didn't just leave. You might not smell his decay but he might be there. The flies are attracted to something. You need to find it. There will always be new ones wanting to come to the feast.

Are you absolutely sure your little furry friend actually left the van and was alone? For that many flies to be in there there has to be a source. I've only seen that many flies once and it was when a rodent died in a cavity wall. Maggots and flies poured out of cracks in the wall into our spare room. Not nice. Good luck, hope it clears up soon!

Perhaps you could do a defogger or 2. The mist would get in all the nook and crannies, kills the adults and the eggs. Wonder if the mouse died in the walls and that's the attraction. Hopefully not but whatever it is I'm sure it's annoying.

It started when you were parked and the flies were all over your van. They got in every nook and cranny. Now they keep laying eggs. You can kill a fly but not the egg. Go where it's freezing and leave all your doors open for a few hours. The flies will leave and go somewhere warm.

That is what I was thinking. I live in the northeast. One morning I came downstairs to hundreds of flies on my window and curtains. Cluster flies are slow, so I exterminated as many as I could and opened the door to let the rest fly out. They look like lady bugs 🐞 without spots. They're everywhere! Dying in massive heaps on the windowsills and corners of rooms. I often thought about going to a motel, but they would be bad there too. It helps to know it's only temporary. The same thing happens in late summer/early fall with black crickets, which fill parking lots and driveways. It reminds me of biblical plagues!

The kitchen was full of flies. I started a war agains them but had a hard time winning. Also had no clue why these flies were there and ALSO realised there are different kinf of flies and mine in question were deathflies. So, something was dead, somewhere, in the kitchen?! After a few days, in the middle of my war, I decided to watch a movie and make some popcorn in de microwave. You will never guess what I found in there... Defrosted chicken my mum put in there before they left on holiday. She was planning on making chickensalad sandwhiches for the road but totally forgot about it. Yes. Stinky smelly disgusting chicken in the microwave for f*cking weeks. Anyways, keep on laughing about stuff like this!

Apparently the flies became so bad the mouse couldn't take it anymore and abandoned ship. ;-) Hopefully you've considered washing and cleaning surfaces, towels, bedding, etc. after spraying everything. You wouldn't be the first to not think of it but better late than never.

I was sure you would find a dead mouse under the carpet… We, on the other hand we’re stranded on the Knepp Estate in Sussex FOR A WEEK waiting for a mechanic to fix the broken water pump on Einstein, our 1990 VW T25. If you are going to be stranded this was the very best place with more than 1000 acres of wild sussex with red deer, longhorn cows, kingfishers and STORKS..just returned home after 2 weeks camping and reaching Rye and Dungeness. Carry on Campervanning..without flies!

Years ago in older vehicles the glue and adhesives used to build them was made with something that attracted fly’s and other small critters, the auto companies didn’t find out until later.

cluster flies. They sense the change in season, and they cluster together in a void spaces where they can survive the winter. We live on a cattle farm, and they are miserable. We have fly swappers in every room. Keep spraying eventually you will get them out. We have to spray our house at least twice every summer, just so we can get our sanity back. Our old farm house you could hear the buzzing in the walls, and void spaces. Our new build house has spray foam insulation and it stops them, from getting in the walls. They just come in through the door as the kids run in and out of our house.

What a " Cluster Fly Flocking Adventure " !!! You guys should change the name of your van to " The Flying Machine " that will immediately transport the inhabitants to infested locales throughout their journeys. It takes real animal magnetism to attract creatures wherever you present yourselves. Kudos, but I do suggest you get a " d-Con Fogger " which kills most pests ( you close up the room/house/van airtight ), and leave the area for 24 hours. You should remove all food/utensils/bedding/clothing, etc. ), and thoroughly clean all areas that were subjected to the spray ( can you say Spring Cleaning ). Those foggers will eliminate those flockers ....... period. Best of travels, and keep your Beans safe & secure. Always, Syn Silver.

They just love the refrigerator vents. Take off the trim, use RESIDUAL SPRAY,!! Then get some aluminium screen material from a hardware store and trim AND fit around ALL entrances! We call those things ‘clumping flies’ here! You won’t get away from using a residual spray!!!

When we bought our house there was a flea infestation from the previous tenants dog and cat. We had to move out to a bed and breakfast for 3 days while our house was fumigated. SO GROSS! We could literally see them hopping around on our kitchen table. What a relief when they were GONE. We are super diligent with keeping our cats flea meds up. NEVER AGAIN!

Because we have cats, and over the counter flea medications no longer work where we are, we had a huge flea problem on and off for several years. We flea bombed and sprayed the whole house multiple times with only a small amount of success until someone recommended a prescription flea med called Bravecto. This has worked like a charm and despite the insanely hot summer this year, our cat (and I, fleas love me!) have remained bite free. But I felt just as disgusted as you two when they were a problem, so glad they're all gone now! I'm glad you both also got on top of your infestation!
