"In 2005, the FDA granted approval for a promising new cancer-fighting drug called Nexavar. Bayer took it to market shortly thereafter, and it is currently an approved treatment for late-stage kidney and liver cancer.
That is, so long as you live in the developed world. In a recently published interview in Bloomberg Businessweek, Bayer CEO Marijn Dekkers said that his company's drug isn't for poor people.
"We did not develop this medicine for Indians...we developed it for western patients who can afford it," he said back in December. The quote is quickly making its way across Indian news outlets.
The comment was in response to a decision by an Indian patent court that granted a compulsory license to a local company to reproduce Bayer's drug."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

I am an Indian living in US for the last 4.5 years. I can tell that if you don't have insurance in US, you are pretty much done for and will go bankrupt. A CT scan cost over $5000 without insurance. Even with insurance it is around $100 . Whereas in India it cost $200 out of pocket no matter what. And then medicines and all are relatively cheaper and even surgeries are cheaper. And I am talking same quality healthcare from a good private hospital in India.

MegaPlosion Indians don’t seem to realise that their “wealth” was meaningless to the majority of India. India at the time was using vast amounts of bartering and there was no real set value of items, this value came from western countries, so in retrospect Britain and other European country gave India its preconceived wealth, that was worthless to Indians as a people as nothing had a “value” but people traded for what they needed and wanted, where as Europe were using currencies and the richer citizens gave the jewels and spices a high value, as they were exotic for the areas, so less people could afford them and therefore use them making them more exclusive. So Europe gave India its value of items, it was worthless until the exact point Europe said it wasn’t. I know it’s hard for you to hear, but it’s true. If Europe decided the resources were worthless, then they would’ve been. And I wouldn’t say India is the only nationalistic country, as Britain has decided to leave the EU. It I would say many Indians are rather extreme and hateful, without being particularly educated in matters of monetary value and the wider scale of trade and the economics of regional areas and continents.

6th largest economy by GDP? Not too impressive considering that it's the second largest country by population. It's the GDP per capita that matters, and India is not even in the top 100. Also, it's not the fastest growing economy; The fastest growing country by economy is Ethiopia. Another fact, India is the one of the MOST racist country in the world. ALOT more racist than the US or the UK. India is also in the top 10 most sexist countries in the world.

Wrong. Almost all citizens in Western European countries are covered by compulsory universal state-prescribed (public/private) health insurance, which reduces the prices of medicines which cost thousands of Euros to just a few dozen Euros or in wordt case to a few hundred Euros. Most such countries also have a “maximum annual medical bill” expense legislation in place, in one form or the other.

India literary has a caste system for people (prevalent even to this day) which is far worse than one policeman killing one black person. These people in lower castes are forced to do menial jobs like cleaning toilets (not brushing toilets but literary collecting poop). Yet no one in india is protesting because of this neither do people protest when people from higher castes kill those in lower or when a women is raped by a group of men which happens fairly often in India. If india would be such heaven on earth, indians wouldn't be so keen to take every opportunity to emigrate to west.

Indian medicine is a Godsend. India has rightly given the finger to the repulsive tycoons in our unfortunately inhumane nation. As a result, they have preserved the integrity of their medical industry and, in this respect, their nation as a whole, saving the lives of many people. The wealthiest of our nation would leave their own people to die for the sake of profits so excessive and decadent... shame on the medical industry of the United States.

Shame on scumbag Kevin Dave from Seattle police who was driving a police cruiser which led to the death of Jaahnavi Kandula, a 23-year-old Indian student and also disgusting remarks by Seattle Police Officer detective named Daniel Auderer , shame on both of these douchebags. These both man are not normal, they should be in psychiatric ward for atleast 1 year. These both policeman are too dangerous for the society if they are allowed to roam around in USA. I am deeply very much concerned about the democracy, human rights violation and freedom of speech in the America 😔😔 As an Bharatiya 🇮🇳 I feel very much sad for death of Jaahnavi Kandula. Shame on USA and shame on the Seattle Police Department in Washington America.

My grandfather had a shipping business in his early days. 2 years before dying he gave me a expensive watch, he casually joked that he brought after his first business order through British east India Co. After shipping 1400 indian slaves in South Africa.. I never could wear that watch ever, the watch was an antique and expensive, but maybe most of our luxury in London has a past dark origin story that goes back to colonial Era. I think laughing at this ex colonies and joking on their poverty is like a robber robs a house, takes all stuff with him, comes back a week later and laughs on the house owner that he has nothing in his house.

This drug was not created by Bayer but by an NGO in the US. Bayer bought the formula for 256 million dollars and got a few grants from the UD government. They got the drug pracictally for free. The conflict here is that the 20 year patent protection is over but Bayer tweaked the old formula and applied for another 20 years. The patent application which the Indians rejected. India does not accept Evergreening.
