I’m so glad I stumbled upon your film. It is moving, exquisite. I read many of Cookson’s books years ago but didn’t know her story. Thank you for making this film. It brought me to tears. At this tense time in the world, the story of this strong, brave, talented woman remind me that there just might be a brighter future than what I am currently experiencing. Thank you from Texas.

I second your comment: I may have grown old and a little cynical but her story and it's narration also touched me very much maybe because, despite It all, I still seek inspiration and the good in life and appreciate it more when I come across it.

"The Moth and "Colour Blind" are my faves .. there's something "homely" about a Geordie accent even though I'm from London originally. Used to date a young woman from Denton Burn in the early 70's and used to travel up to Newcastle every 2 weeks. School Children can be mean thru all eternity, I was taunted in 1966 on the sport's field for having parents that were divorced lol, my Daughter was bullied at school in the 80's before she died for having a posh lunch from home with fancy cakes etc, they would stamp on her cakes in the playground, SERIOUSLY heartbreaking. Even though Catherine Cookson movies are pretty full on with birth's, deaths, domestic violence and mayhem I watch them frequently to escape 2021 and all it's death and destruction. I re-watch an eternity and ALWAYS love the happy endings. Never knew Catherine was Dame Catherine. Thank you for everything Lady ! You've truly enhanced my viewing the past 10 years. Blessed Be xo

I read my first Catherine Cookson this year, "The Black Candle", and I was entranced. I had always been told that she was a writer that "filled the market" but when I read that book, she was anything but. I found some exceptional writing in it, and the characters we all so fully rounded and alive and real, that I had to take pause for a few moments to catch my breath; and they breathed the same air. I was enchanted. And this film, I think, captures the essence of the real writer, the Cookson we all die to know. I am always fascinated by writers and their lives, as well as reading their works, and Cookson's life has touched me in very poignant ways. I love that about this film. it is informative, deeply moving, poetic, and it deserves a feature-length story of its own. The actress playing Cookson in this says not a single word while she walks and observes the world around her, but she *is* Cookson, she brings gravitas and splendour and real charm to the film. This is a wonderful production, and you should all be very proud x

Wow, thank you so much for that wonderful feedback, my friend. I've passed your compliments on to Kerry Browne, who played Catherine in our film. :) We really, really appreciate you taking the time to share such positive and uplifting words. And we're so glad that, 5 years on, our little project about Catherine Cookson continues to move and inspire people. Thank you.

Just discovered Catherine Cookson... Well, perhaps not, but prior to now, I've not connected her or her name, to her work, which I might've previously seen or read. A person from California, whom I've only just met today, via Internet discussion, suggested that I might like Catherine Cookson movies. I'm intrigued, & now immersed into her story. This is wonderful introduction, & I'll follow with her movies. Thank you.

Wow! This short 17 min film was beyond exceptional! It definitely feels like it captured the essence of Ms Cookson & why her novels are so timeless! As we grow, we learn to know & understand that life is a struggle & that there’s much heartache & pain, but also much love! Catherine’s writings allow us to escape our own lives for awhile & to view/live the struggles, pains, & happiness of her characters, in such a way, that it’s very emotional & therapeutic! It also teaches us what life was like around the world & how it is still like that in many ways. She may not only be an amazing author, but I believe through her writings, she was & still is a humanitarian! Bc her writings help to sooth & relieve peoples’ suffering & therefore she should also be considered a true humanitarian!!

For our darling Cath. I would have liked to be able to tell her that despite her not being able to have a child; she has indeed been a mum figure for many. Her honesty, her truth makes many not feel ashamed of their backgrounds, class and indeed of their mistakes. She gives us a sense of dignity. She makes us feel that we too have that right to express what we have deeply buried inside of us.

I'm from South Shields and I have never seen this before. It is gorgeous. I'm 35 and have been reading Catherine Cookson's stories on and off since I was 15. This is a stunning tribute, a visual masterpiece and I cried through the whole thing. She is an icon and a don't think in South shields she's celebrated enough. Commissioned by the word and I could only find 3 of her books. Stunning work again.

We're so glad you resonated with Our Catherine, it really means a lot to us knowing that. We'll be quoting you directly on the 'stunning tribute' and 'visual masterpiece' bit, in particular! :D Such high praise. Thank you, again. Take care.

Catherine Cookson was not only a wonderful writer, but a wonderful woman as well. She and husband Tom (what a love story that was! ) gave millions to charity, particularly children's charity. I have read every book she ever wrote and Katie Mullholand is a masterpiece. we exchanged many letters as I was involved at that time in similar charities. I treasure her letters.

Jan White - Thank you so much for sharing. I love "first hand accounts" of real people. C. Cookson, especially seemed to be a "Hero among Heros" and far more facinating than any written character she fleshed out. I would have loved to met her. Thanks to you and your share, I came close. Many thanks! Best wishes to all.

Really enjoyed watching this, and was quite moved by it. Excellent production especially the voice of Catherine - Rachel Adamson. Just returned from a short holiday in South Shields, my third visit to the area this year after losing my Mum in February. She was born in Elswick and the family moved down to Birmingham looking for work in the 1930's. Mum loved Catherine's books and watching this brought me a little closer. Thank you to all who were involved in its production.

I have read somewhere in the comments on another video, that you guys knew very little about Catherine Cookson before you undertook this project. Which makes it all the more remarkable that you have captured a perfect summary of her life with such wonderful sensitivity and insight. The dialogue, the actress speaking that dialogue and also acting her part, the actress playing Catherine and the location photography plus the music, all just perfect. Very moving every time I watch it!

Hello there - thank you so much for your kind words. :) Indeed, all we knew of Catherine was that she was someone our Mam's used to read. I would see books all over my Mother's bedside table, all of them with big, shining 'Catherine Cookson' letters adorning, in that trademark font and shine. Only since starting on this project did we grow to appreciate just what our mother's must have taken and gotten from those books. Thank you once again for your lovely compliments. We're so happy that the film moved you as you say it has, and that we managed to do Catherine justice. There's always that slight concern that you're going to do someone a disservice, or misrepresent in some way, when representing the experience of someone very real... We're very pleased that our film meets the approval of those who Catherine means so much to. Take care.

Thank you!!!!! This film you created was very inspiring to me and educational. I never these things happened to Catherine Cookson, and it struck a nerve which makes me feel determined to do something about it!!! Before the pandemic, I had used to attend my town's writing club as a fun activity to get my stress off, grad school. But ever since the pandemic started I put more of my energy into school!!! and being so close to getting my master's degree, my body is exhausted and my mind is so distracted (and it does not help that I have a learning disability.) that it is hard to concentrate on my creative writing that I can't but help feel I should quit and not continue to do it. but on the other hand not that I'm so close to finishing school, I want to try and continue with my stories and try to get them published as it has been one of my life's goals!!! But after watching your film, I'm going back to my town's writing club and I'm going to start drafting a manifesto!!!! my teacher says I should do one but I do have one question, what is a manifesto? please reply or comment if you know?

Thank you for being so honest and so vulnerable. You are clearly stronger than you perhaps know. We send you our love and support through this challenging part of your story. Keep going, for there is always light at the end of these tunnels we find ourselves in. What is it they say, "if you are going through hell - keep going". We certainly have had times in our lives where we've felt the way you did when you sent this comment, and we too have had to suffer & learn to find balance, and to set our souls free, as you so rightly put it. You will find your way. And you're not alone in this. This is indeed the journey we must all take in life. We wish you all the best in yours, and hope that our film was helpful to you in some way. Please take care, and remember that smooth seas never made a skilled sailor.

Great drone work in this film. I was watching, appreciating a new film about her, enjoying the old with the new and then at 14:09 I see the modern woman reading a Catherine Cookson book-it made me cry!!! Her books mean so much to me and so many of them I love in their film version. I love her work so much and I find so little interest in her in my area that it bums me out. I still enjoy her for me-but feel others are missing out. 2 summers ago right now I had a trip planned to her area to see where she was from, to see as much as I could of the town, to see the little museum stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm very sad a person I won't name ruined my trip that had been 10 years in the planning! I hope to earn the money again, have good enough health and the time to get there and see what speaks to my soul. Thank you for having an interest in her. She is truly amazing! (I also love the actresses and actors in the film versions of books. I appreciate their work).

Fran Looving - Thanks so much for your share. I understand and relate to your history of a shared trip to Ireland with someone who ruined the trip and the wish/hope to redo the visit before I die. In my case, I had undiagnosed cancer for 2 years before it was diagnosed. The CA125 test and scans picked up nothing until a 1/1/2008 dream forewarned me that the other side "was waiting" for me (another story). During my illness I treated a friend to my second trip to Ireland (before I died). The incredible disappointment and extreme cold cruelty is something I shall never forget. We really never "know another" do we? I learned a valuable lesson that trip and will never again allow anyone (through their depressive illness and "need to hurt" (consciously or unconsciously) ruin my day! I hope we both get another chance to enjoy a pleasant trip to Ireland. No one will take that dream from me. Like some of C. Cookson's characters, we share life with incredible unhappy and cruel characters and can find a way "around them". Their "road to ruination" and unhappiness is of their own making. With sincere wishes, I send best regards to all out there!

I like so many others have read everything this exceptional woman has written. To read her words is to be transported to another time and place, to another world, to another community that feels as real as our own. It's been a good many years since I've read one of her stories but just by thought, I can be back in that world, to the farmyards and coal mines, to the hopes and dreams and heartbreak of the people she brought to life by the magic of her pen.

Greetings and Salutations To: Catherine Cookson Mahalo! Many a "Lesson Learnt" from "ADVERSITY" and human injustices visited upon the innocence and innocent! Great LOVE and the LOSS of it! A DART from the HEART! From one to another I" SALUTE YOU" Catherine Cookson! Manuia ALOHA! Carmel

I so appreciate her understanding of jobless men. I've been in that situation a lot. And one of my daughters had three miscarriages in eighteen months. (She has a little girl now.) Another daughter will never have a child because of surgery for ovarian cancer. Their suffering has been awful. My own wife grew up in extreme poverty and abuse. I feel like I know Catherine.

I'm a sand dancer like her and bloody hell we hated our school trips going to Newcastle, Catherine cookson museum, the pits, Beamish! I'm so proud of being a geordie! It's a shame that my sons who are born and bread down South don't understand how proud you can be to love the place you grew up in!!
