As first-time BTO flat owners, Luqman and Amelia envisioned their home to feel and look like an expensive hotel. Yet, it seems almost impossible to do so with a limited budget. To make their dream home a reality, they got their hands dirty by learning how to refurbish all their second-hand furniture.

This just shows how much waste we had generated and discard when all can be restored and use again. There needs to be a national education on recycling and minimizing waste. This couple did a great job.

@@robinrobinrobinwong thank you. During the renovation period of a month, I came by 3x a week to restore. Each time I came, I spent about 3 hrs before I freshen up to head out for work.

Absolutely lovely. Most renovations/decors these days in Singapore are overly IDed and way too cookie cutter - devoid of personality. Brilliant that you also managed to source pre-loved items and helped to save the environment with DIY. Applause for effort and final classy effect! You could even create a new furniture line from restoring old vintage pieces.

What a lovely couple. I love the raffles look to, it's a whole mood. Love that they've upcycled most of their furniture, it looks clean, airy, warm & homely. A big 'like' from me.

One of the most beautiful houses ive seen in singapore that is a lot more tasteful than some of the flats that are designed by so called designers at a premium. Proves that money cannot buy taste indeed.

This is what you call real home where you always 'rindu untuk pulang'. A home is to build over time, bit by bit to the master's taste and lifestyle. Albeit In fast pace and humid climate of SG, it is not easy to maintain.

I also buy from carousell a lot but i seldom refurnish my furniture. The reason is i wanna give it a vintage and loft style look. So for those who dont want your house to look like a hotel or a show room, or what to spend lots of time on DIY, i think going for vingage or mid century style is a solution

May i know where to you find those materials eg such as those woodplank or the cupboard crown? And also where do you find the tools or the workspace to work on these? Im very interested to do some minor home improvement project on my old furniture as well would appreciate much if you can share some tips!

Thanks Xina, I got the material and tools from shoppee. I do the restoration at home with a vacuum attachment on the tools to minimize sawdust mess. Ill be doing tutorials on restoration on tiktok, hope to find u there =)

Most of the giants I have are areca palms and they cost between $30 - $50 for a palm of that height. And the bird of paradise cost alittle more. Spend $200 and above for free delivery. This is at Spa Flora along Bedok South Rd. Its the pots that are costly. They go $100 onwards for pots of that size.

What a lovely and classy home! Good job! We’ve been wanting to rework our 15 year old wood coffee table and dining table that’s in poor condition for like 3 years now! 🤣 But obviously we’re lazy procrastinating people who just sat on the work….even throughout the lockdown! …..just don’t know where and how to start! We are ashamed of ourselves (I’m sharing this fact only because I’m not using my real name here 🤣). So really the refurbishing work you’ve done is truly amazing! Excellent stuff!

Search for a random orbital sander on carousell ud probably get 1 for $30. A small can of stain to your color preference and your choice of protective finishing, varnish or lacquer. Will take possibly 3 hrs of your time max.

Thank you! Here are some guidelines. -white/ivory/cream walls - darkwood furniture - beige linen fabrics - oversized plants (areca palms or bird of paradise) Easy to remember and follow.

Luqman, may I know where did you do the sanding when you brought back the furniture? I think I would like to do the same but the fact that it is not feasible to do inside the house is an issue.

I use a random orbital sander with a vaccuum attachment. 99.9% saw dust is contained. It is feasible.
