I’m a pediatric ER nurse and if she looks like that- I would recommend going in. or have your pediatrician write an albuterol prescription so you can manage better at home. 89-91% and tummy breathing like that requires a lot of energy and kids can tire out from that kind of respiratory distress. that oxygen is too low for my liking while awake but having the meds at home is gold ❤️ glad she’s okay💕 prayers! 🙏🏼

Blakely could have asthma. Might need a nebulizer at home. That way you stay ahead of her breathing. It can keep you from having to go back to the hospital. Be well Blakely. Hang in there Mom and Dad.

Yes, exactly what my kids went through. It took going to another dr. For my kids to be diagnosed with asthma. Now we have a nebulizer at home and we can control things much better

Agree with the nebulizer. My kids had it growing up and it helped tremendously. Sometimes, but not always, their episodes of difficult breathing came with colds, virus, and allergies. I would always notice that their skin color was slightly off during episodes as well. Follow your instincts

Rachel honestly I don't mean to tell you what to do, but I'm a mama too. Granted my daughter is older, but she was perfectly healthy and tell she was about three and a half. Then out of the blue she had these intermittent breathing problems. Sometimes they were so severe she would turn Blue and Gray! We took her to a pulmonologist and found out she was asthmatic. I would take Blakely to a child pulmonologist to get lung function tests done. They won't hurt her they're just annoying. But if she has asthma or some other pulmonary disease like chronic bronchitis or whatever, you want to kick it in the butt early. Then when her breathing problems get all under control, the key is prevention. There's something called a peak flow monitor that you use. Just a little tiny device that she blows into and you know what her base peak flow is. When see her flows start going down, then you know to act before things get bad. Good luck Rachel and Merry Christmas

Awe. Feel better, Blakely! Hunter broke my heart talking about the ptsd, which is VERY real, especially with a medically complex kiddo. Hugs and prayers for wellness, comfort, and peace of mind for the entire House of Hughes! ❤

I completely understand what you guys are going through. When our son spent a whole month at the hospital and now it's been 5 years to this day every time he gets sick I check his oxygen. You guys are amazing parents. I get so much inspiration from you guys since we have 3 under 5 and one special needs. She's the sweetest little girl singing and dancing. So cute. Hoping for fast recovery it's not fun getting sick.

Aww poor girl as a Respiratory Therapist, I wpuld also recommend looking into getting a "peak expiratory flow meter" to trend Blakelys respiratory muscle strength and help notice any asthmatic patterns by seeing how hard she can blow out. This can help families trend their childs normal and compare it to when she is not well and be a warning sign/diagnostic tool to know when take her to ER.

RN basics: cool mist humidifier, albuterol nebulizer at home, see her primary care or pediatrician for a full evaluation. At this point, these constant ER visits are necessary, but they indicate mismanagement medically (by a professional). She might need to be on long term meds for her lungs (one of the theophylline derivatives) with breakthrough specific instructions for home management. Panicking won't happen as often if you have clear medical guidelines. We went through this with our eldest and he outgrew it by 7 years old, but even his primary care admitted that his management was perfect--and for that we saw a pediatric specialist. He was on somophylline meds for 4 years, and only had issues directly after a cold, at which time we managed with albuterol neb and cool mist humidifier plus Tylenol/Advil for fever. It doesn't take a professional to see she's having intermittent retractions (abdominal breathing) with her low sats.

Do you guys have a albuterol nebulizer? you should really look into getting one, especially in the winter when children get sick a lot more and often. The dr can also prescribe a steroid if her breathing doesn’t improve that you can add to it, to help the bronchial from inflammation and spasms, allowing her to breath deeper and fully. Especially with hunter Having PTS from her sick last time. Differently something you should bring up to her pediatrician. This allows you to be able to try things at home before having to rush to urgent care or ER. ❤

If her oxygen saturation is only 89% while at rest, she needs to be seen for a breathing treatment. Clearly, she is not getting adequate oxygen. Please see a medical professional for evaluation rather than a family member for the best long-term treatment plan for Blakely. Oxygenation at 89% is too low for children or adults!

Her steroids are likely about out of her system and that is a time when symptoms show their ugly faces again..... Sometimes it takes a few courses of the steroids...taking into account the possibility of recurring symptoms..... Had one....seemed we had about 3 cycles on one of ours..... Hyper, crazy steroid kid....then a few nice weeks....then back to symptoms ( never as bad as the prior symptoms )....rinse and repeat! You two are SUCH good , attentive parents.... Hang in there.

Yes if her breathing bad they will take her back there lucky they've got a relative who is a nurse kids bounce back she seemed okay next day they've got a nurse on tap better doing that than a+e with COVID on the rise again in UK and winter non emergency that you can go to a drop in place for can be a 13 hour wait especially on a weekend and even if your there with a child it can be a four hour wait go if you need to but if you have a walk in centre or UTC you're best going there I'd been yo a+e during COVID not fun and potentially picking up COVID and gecticness I avoid like plague if my mental health has relapsed or something minor and go to our UTC center
