Welcome to Vienna! I‘m Vienese, totally! (Which means ancestors in all of Europe, especially the former Monarchy.) One very important thing: we Austrians are not junior Germans, rather German speaking Slavs. And some tips: Start buying tickets for the ball season: very beautiful balls: “Blumenball”, “Kaffeesiederball”, “Rudolfina Redoute”. Next thing: Important decisions are made in cozy coffee house and you normally start by getting to know the person. And: take your time in coffee houses, it’s something to enjoy. In summer when it’s hot: Go to the “New Danube” and jump into the water! Enjoy hiking in the woods. And: go to the museums!

I used to live in Vienna for a while. It is really amazing for art & architecture. I was studying to be an opera singer....but I was better at attending operas than being in them!

Vienna is more similar like Budapest as we were together in the monarchy. We also have beautiful avenues and old apartment buildings too. Even the Opera house looks very similar. The Christmas market is a multiple times award winner event here in Budapest so it’s worth to see it.

Once you mentioned the WeinNachten Markts a rush of excitement flowed over me. I live in Oregon, but have dear friends in Germany who we visit often.(DH is Swiss) I had the chance to be a vendor at an exclusive "Christmas market" in Hornbach at a swanky hotel. OMG it was so much fun. Yes I saw the normal ones in several cities/villages. But the exclusive ones are more curated. Yes I did sell many of my items. But the best part was hearing what German people said about my products. I restore antique purses, and I make reproductions. Like the 120+ year old purses that are beaded or metal mesh. And several of these were actually made in Germany. Thanks for bringing back some excellent memories. I hope your new home is everything you dream of.

I wish you all the best in this move. I had an aunt who was married to a Colonel in the Army and she was a pro at the moves military families have to make. You are amazing m'dear. The images of the type of apartments you may be able to live in looks soooooo amazing. I look forward to your vlogs in the future once you have settled in Vienna. Cheers and bon voyage!

Thus was such an interesting video. We've moved a few countries with my husband's work and had the expenses paid for but had to arrange the moves. It was neat seeing how the moving company arranged all your items. And I found I nodded in agreement to your differences between the US and Europe! Totally! My British husband really missed flavoured coffee creamer after living in the US so long. And I SO miss Mexican food. Lol. Here in the UK though, I'd say its half-way between the pace of Europe and the convenience of the US.

I'm so happy for you and a bit jealous, cause Vienna is on my "Wish I Could Live There" list 😊so I already can't wait for your Wiener blogs 😅 As to old apartment buildings, I live in one in Poland, huge rooms, 11 ft ceilings, various mouldings, non-standardised interesting windows and doors, living in those has its own quirks, but they are amazing, you will love it. ☺ And as to problems with finding an old apartment with two bathrooms, my guess is it's because of the time they were built, bathrooms with plumbing were still a novelty and luxury even pre-WWII, so even having one was a big deal.

I agree with you so much on living in Europe vs US! I think unless someone experiences it they don’t understand because it’s hard to completely put into words. I would be busier doing things but less stressed and seemed to have more what I call “life” time. I know it’s not for everybody, some people hated living in other countries that I know but some of us unlock that magic of wanderlust. I lived in Bavaria loved every moment and as you know recently did a short time in Kaiserslautern. It was very different, I thought it was too Americanized actually lol and I missed my beloved Bavaria so I think you will love living in Vienna. Can’t wait to see your videos.

I want one of those German hairdryers, LOL! Seriously, thanks for the fascinating video and "taking us along" with you on your trip/preparations. BTW, the name Esso is used in Europe for the same gas we know as Exxon here in the U.S. The company started using the name Exxon in the U.S. instead in the early '70's, while it remained Esso overseas (can't remember the reason, just that it took me while to get used to the new name, I was so used to Esso!).

Thank you very much, Christine, for sharing with us. It’s really interesting what issues a person solves moving to another country, how he/she does it. When I read any biography of famous people, they usually write “And then she went to such and such a country and began to live there” and I was always annoyed why the author did not write how this person was able to move, what she did to make this move happen. Thank you! When you said that you sold and gave away your hats, I became so sad that I wasn’t there at that moment and I didn’t get your hat. I visit your Pashmarket page, I really want to buy something yours, but because of the sanctions, I have not yet found a way to do this, I know that these possibilities exist, but they are expensive for me. Enjoy your flight, darling, and I hope you will share your vintage European experience with us. Christine, I’m very sorry but I still don’t understand about paid content on Instagram, how does it work? I just don't see some your posts that are only visible to subscribers who have a paid subscription, do I?

German German and Austrian German are a wee bit different but it will be fun to learn these new terms. In Germany (I am not sure about Austria though) there is something called Milchmädchen, it is condensed sweetened milk which comes as liquid and as a paste. You might want to try it as a new option. Have fun in Austria, it is an amazing city. My bio-father was born there and I was there as a kid. I loved the old buildings with the enfilade style rooms.

I frequently saw cats in windows. Dogs have to wear a "Beisskorb" which means "bite basket" which keeps them from biting.

Not all dogs and not everywhere. Listed dogs (those considered dangerous like pitbulls or mastiff) have to wear a muzzle in public at all times. All dogs have to wear a muzzle on public transport.

Vienna is wonderful, though it is quite expensive! When my husband and I visited, we had to choose carefully which museums/attractions we wanted to visit. A one day trip we took that was really fantastic was to Bratislava. A quick train ride away, and it's really beautiful!

Welcome to Europe 😊There is a lot different between the USA and Europe I guess 😉 I knew a German Vintage Influencer and KZfaqr fromv Germany. She loves Vienna and moved there, I guess 1 or 2 years ago 🤔She Loves the 50s and sewing.Maybe you know her, her Name is Dany Waylon. Maybe you can connect her, and I could very well imagine that you both could exchange experiences etc. about living in Vienna 🤷 It is really funny which questions americans have about Europe 😅 Paying by card is more popular in Europa these days than in the past. PS try deepl it's a better translator. And mexican food in Germany is also very delicous 😉 You will See a lot has changed since you last lived in Europe ....

Make sure you report any damage! We used professional movers in the 80s and they were sketchy. So much was broken and then packed. I was a teen girl (now an adult woman) and was actually intimidated during the packing. The movers found a mouse trap with a dead mouse and wrapped and packed that. We had a lot of unpleasant surprises in the following days.

Austria Germany is so clean. Their gas station restrooms are washed down by mechanical means after every use. They have HOT WATER in ski run bathrooms on the top of mountains! 😂 you will love the organic nature of the food, it tastes so much better than food in the US, in particular the meats. Best of luck!

If you drive on the autobahn, remember if you see a car approaching from behind, move over to allow them to pass because they are traveling at a very high speed rate of speed. Just a question. I'm a Californian that is fully settled now in France. Can I ask why that many rooms are needed? Is it just you and your partner or are there more in your family unit? For me, it's just me and my partner and one cat, and we have a 2 bedroom that's 72m2, the living/dining area is for the most part the biggest part of our apartment, we honestly don't need more than that. It's not to criticize, just to understand why such a big place.
