1 Corinthians 13:13 says, “Faith, hope and love abide in these three but the greatest of these is love”. Love is greater than faith and hope. Without faith nobody can please God. That directly means that without love, no one can please God. Hope is an anchor to our soul. Everything in the kingdom of heaven operates by faith but faith won’t work without love. The gospel creates people who are filled with faith in Christ and captivated by hope for eternal life but along with that they should have overflowing love for God and people. Love is the greatest thing in this world. Love is powerful. It should grow in us. Love gives us energy. It is easy to love the people who love us but it is really difficult to love the people who are cruel to us. Without love, our life is fruitless. Anyone who doesn’t love, doesn’t know God for God is love. To know God, a person requires a relationship with him and love is the most important factor in any good relationship.
Without love you have no God in your life. If you have no love towards God, you will not have the fear of God. Loving God means obeying God’s commandments. For example, our giving to God must always be out of love, not obligation. If we are not doing ministry, we are not loving God. Obedience is always full of faith and our faith should work through love towards God and people. Love is greater than faith and hope because both faith and hope can be for selfish purposes but love is for others. It is a service. When we are growing in love, we grow in patience. We are not envious of other’s success, not arrogant, rude, irritable, won’t rejoice when other people do the wrong thing. Love bears all things. When you have the love of God, you will care for other people and do your ministry. You will encourage and build the other person up. Developing character and caring for others is more important than faith and hope. Let us see the story of the good Samaritan in Luke 10.:25-37. In this story, the priest and Levite represent believers who have so much faith and knowledge but won’t put it into practice. They have no love. Then there came a Samaritan who felt pity on him. This parable teaches us to care for the needs of others without expecting anything in return. We should be rooted and grounded in love. Develop unselfish love in your family. Your faith life and love life should start from your family. When you are a loving person at home, you will be loving towards your church and Pastor. There is no fear in love. Church is a place of love and righteousness. This will attract the people to the Church. Growth happens through speaking the truth in love. The lack of love in you causes friction and strife in your personal life, family and church. The power of love will take control of any heated situation in your life because you know that God is in control and you won’t be angry, upset and fight with the people who cause trouble. Instead, you will pray for those who hurt you. God loves us and instructs us to love each other.
