Crazy the Wide receiver argument can be used against Penix but not Daniels who arguably has two day 1 WRs and Daniels best passing games are against Jacksonville st and northern southern western east st or whatever.

Corum is difficult to evaluate for an NFL career. He didn't get many carries when Hassan Haskins was the featured back in the Wolverine offense, and at that time he was looked at as a little speed demon in contrast to Haskins' snow plow sort of style. With Haskins graduating, either Corum or the coaches decided that Corum needed to bulk up in order to replace Haskins as the #1 back in Michigan's mostly inside-the-tackles run game, so he gained a lot of muscle in the off season, including in his upper body, and lost some of his breakaway speed. But the new version of Blake Corum proved to be a great inside runner, consistently gaining extra yards after contact in the land of the giants and serving as the engine for the entire Michigan offense. You can't run the ball successfully if your main runner gets only two or three yards per carry. If he can get four or five yards each time he touches the ball, you are golden. The only thing that ends a drive is the end zone. Corum was not injury-prone. He had the one knee injury against Illinois that caused him to miss the end of the 2022 season. Not having him in the lineup nearly lost that game against the Illini, and we all know how the playoff game against TCU turned out. Whether that injury and surgery diminished his NFL value remains to be determined. He certainly got caught from behind a lot in 2023 when he broke through to the third level, but so did Barry Sanders as a pro. Corum is roughly the same body shape as Barry, and has a great jump-cut, and, like Barry, is hard to get a direct hit on. Overall, he's not as elusive as Barry, but he's certainly a better inside runner who looks for an extra two or three yards at the end of a play rather than a spectacular TD run. He's a good blocker and a sound receiver out of the backfield, but his receiving skills weren't used. Why throw a pass in the flat for a 5-yard gain when you can easily run for five yards? Another plus is that he doesn't fumble the ball. His yards per carry stat was really hurt by his many short-yardage carries for 1st downs or TDs. The conventional wisdom these days is that running backs in the NFL have short careers before they blow out a knee, so don't draft a runner with your top picks, so Corum is unlikely to be picked before maybe the 4th round, but he'll do well for the team that picks him.

Gotta love the idea that JJ’s biggest weakness is his lack of arm strength, when most others have that as maybe the one NFL trait you can bank on. His issue is that he barely threw the ball lol, and when he did the decision making was often questionable.

I haye when draftniks say a guy is "maxed out" or "already at his ceiling". None of these college players are at their potential! They're young and ALL have room to grow. Putting a cap on someones potential is bogue when its shown over and over they can exceed expectations. Maybe your speaking just physically and not mentally, but if thats the case you should clarify that. But even then that sells an individuals ability to become a better athlete with professional training. Otherwise, appreciate the breakdowns and analysis 💯

I believe that Penix was pressured 16 times against Texas, almost entirely up the middle from two day 1 NFL takents. He took zero sacks and his rating against that pressure was damn good. So it's not that he can't thrive in that scenario, he's just been very inconsistent.

personally, as an OSU fan, people are SLEEPING on JJ McCarthy man. I think hes' way closer to that Daniels, May, Caleb group than people are giving credit. And I think you said it well when describing his throws opposite hash down field. It's not that he can't, it's not even that he didn't EVER. It's that he didn't a lot. But IIRC, the times he did, it was a good throw. He's got every other trait you'd want in terms of mentality, winner, absolute toughness. It takes a lot to be able to beat OSU 3 years in a row man, it really does. And I think it's about time he gets the credit he deserves for it. Don't get me wrong, the team absolutely played their ASS off as a whole, but think about where the rest of his team is ranked and projected man, Corum supposed to be a little later than a few others, Roman going later than a lot of receivers, his line isnt all 1st round projections.... You're telling me his team around him was WORSE than I originally expected for the draft? That means he's the X factor of that team imo.

Brett Veach last month: "Yeah, we're always trying to get Pat offensive help, no matter what people think or say. It was a unique free agency and there wasn't a lot to choose from and you're picking last in the draft. So we took what we had..." Well guess what Veach, there's a TON of options in free agency this year and the draft is STACKED with talent at WR to where you could easily, even if you're mediocre at drafting WRs which you are, get GREAT value at #32. No excuses this off-season, I don't wanna hear it.

He simply does not have the arm talent of any successful starting QB in the league, and his lack of height makes going over the middle very difficult for him. I'm really high on Tez Walker. His stock dropped after the senior bowl because he was having trouble with drops, but those drops don't really show up on his game tape. Plus, on tape and at the senior bowl he showed he can separate in a number of ways that he isn't given credit for. He was cooking corners at the senior bowl, not just on go routes either, he just wasn't able to catch the ball consistently. Again, that doesn't show up on his tape. Not saying he's Ja'marr Chase or anything, but I could absolutely see the "Walker senior bowl drops" being the next "Chase preseason drops" from his rookie year.

I watched Texas all year long and I just can't understand why people think Adonai Mitchell is as high on the board as he is. I understand why you like the traits you see on film, but I saw a guy who had difficulty dominating at the college level. There's something missing there and I don't think it's Sark's system or Ewer's fault. For as good as people think Mitchell is, you'd expect at least 1 1000 yard season with 70+ catches. He's a good red zone threat, but he's solid-not-spectacular everywhere else.

As a Texan fan Sweat would be nice round 1, round 2 Worthy. If Dallas really wants that running back they may have to trade up.

I think MCarthy could end up being the 3rd QB off the board to either the Giants or Atlanta who will be able to sit him for a year or two he is not ready to start right away especially on a bad team

Joel klatt said the exact opposite thing with penix. He said he was the most accurate and threw with the best leverage and touch out of anyone in the draft

Curious as to why Brenden Rice is seen so low. To me he’s got a Jamarr Chase style of play and can easily become a WR1

To me, Bo Nix and Michael Penix are better prospects than JJ McCarthy. JJ McCarthy reminds me of Marcus Mariota, Desmond Ridder, or Ryan Tannehill - athletic, good size, tough, gamer, not a consistent QB. I don't think he's shown he's got the arm talent or pre or post snap processing ability, and it requires a huge leap to project him to success in the NFL. Penix has the biggest arm and has shown he can make the requisite throws. Reminds me a lot of CJ Stroud coming out last year. Bo Nix is probably the most NFL-ready of this tier, he's played a lot of college ball and is mature enough to handle the pressure and transition to the NFL.
