American 🇺🇸 I went to Lithuania in 2019 before Covid made travel more unpredictable and risky. I watched your videos. You had a very different experience than me in Lithuania - even considering the Covid issues. I didn’t find it expensive at all. We stayed in a hostel private room, with free breakfast about $30/night. We really enjoyed Old Town, shops & market near the train station, the university and Hill of 3 crosses, Uzupis, going to a festival and Kaunas. Vilnius is a very artsy unique city. I love the long interesting Lithuanian history and the culture - especially the music and paganism. We hired a university of Vilnius graduate student of history to take us on a Soviet History tour. We even saw Vytautas Landsbergis, the first head of the independent Lithuanian parliament in 1990. I found the stories of Baltic Independence very inspiring. We met so many nice people. Maybe you should go in Summer or warmer weather. It was so fun with a lot of outdoor activities in summer. I can not wait to go back.

@@RJT80 Oh yes, knowing how to communicate with others is killing "the culture". And God forbid, learning more than one language. Lithuanians are speaking multiple languages for hundreds of years: Polish, German, Russian, English are the most common ones, I doubt you can find many Lithuanians who cannot speak at least two languages.

We, Lithuanians, usually tend to focus on negative things and forget that we live in such a wonderful place. Of course, there are a lot of every day challenges (especially because of being small economy), but boy we're developing and growing rapidly. Thank You sir for showing us that we are moving in a right direction. Love that hidden gem feel here.

You did great Johnny. I am Lithuanian living in the United States. My Grandparents escaped Stalin's list. My mom was born in a DP camp in Germany. What I appreciate about your efforts , is the one statement that the enthusiast said after finding you two at the train station. He said " At one time, it was all one union" The Germans, Ukraines, Baltic, Belaruss, Polish, etc. My Grandma was born in Orenburg Russia. She spoke Lithuanian. She spoke Polish because her father was Polish. The great Lithuanian commonwealth exists regardless of the communitarian EU takeover. Remember, No one voted on the European Union. The languages and country states divided by regional resources. That part of history was forced. It makes sense the regulations and forced mandates are stronger there as the origin of control continues. No matter what, I love seeing the place I would have been. I enjoy seeing your journey. Thank you for sharing.

Johny. The park at the end is the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial park. Over the course of the WW2 some 160,000 jews, soviet prisoners of war, romians, ukrainian nationalists were horrifyingly butchered at this site and then covered up both by the Reich and the Soviet regiemes alike. The monument you were asking about at the end of the video is actually dedicated to children of the Babyn Yar.

Near the business/bank district is where that café looked to be & Indian food a la carte can add up. We ate Lebanese food cheap near town hall and Lithuanian restaurants, some cafés by cathedral square. I can’t remember spending more than $15 each.

Hello Johnny. Really liked your videos of Lithuania but glad to have you back in our beloved Ukraine. The park you were standing in at the end of your video is a nice park with a sad history. This is Babyn Yar where the Germans shot 34000 Jewish men women children and babies in September 1941 at the top of a very large ravine so the bodies would fall into. This was the frst massacre of Jews in WWII. The monument with the children that you asked what is this was the Monument to the children shot in Babyn Yar. I avoid going to this park because it is a place of sadness and not celebration. Right now I have flown to England because I have a small business there but when I return we should meet up in the spring or summer and I will show you a beautiful park near where I live, the embankment that goes along the Dnipro and the activities that are available in this area all within 5 to 10 minutes from my apartment and introduce you to my wife and children. Keep warm!!!

Try exploring Vietnamese cities, a lot of industry has been relocating there which I would imagine would make it more exciting and cosmopolitan, love your work! Bring Bald along too!

The snow covered trees in the park is beautiful. Funny how Bald worried calling Jonny "me old China" - but you're probably used to English rhyming slang by now, & like me discovered it's China (plate) = mate 🤓

What are the best places for sightseeing in Norway and why?

Sadly this is why I haven’t been to Norway. I went to Sweden, Denmark and Finland and the costs for a tourist are staggering. It’s probably twice as expensive as traveling in the US. So I love the Baltic countries which are affordable enough I feel like I am on vacation.

@@birgitnazarian8767 Yes sadly that is the cost of a social democracy, high taxes on everything.

@@stephenrohaim382 When I have to pay $5,000 to $15,000 on a medical procedure (with insurance) then I wish I had some of that socialized medicine or paying $25,000 for each of my children for 1 year of university. Taxes might be lower here but we pay much more and our infrastructure is 50 years old in most cases. I saw the Baltics. They’re looking more modern than where I live in the US.

@@birgitnazarian8767 Your system certainly has issues, but there are dark sides to the one we have here as well. And its getting worse its not all rosy we pay an enormous amount of taxes and get to keep very little of our salaries. We have governments that have no fiscal control at all and the whole system will come crashing down in the not too distant future. Only reason we can "afford" this is a small population and massive oil revenue. '
