Please do not confuse requirements for graduate studies with those for undergraduate or lower level studies. For a Master's degree in any reputable university, the student is expected to do lots of readings and other work to demonstrate 'MASTERY'. Some subjects require reading several books in a single semester. Those 'free' times between lectures and classes with faculty are really not 'free'. They are for studying and developing mastery. In some countries, the question upon graduating is: 'What did you read?' And that's even for undergraduate studies. Best wishes with your readings for the Master's degree.
