We're headed to Belgium to experience the Carpet of Flowers in Belgium with Tanner's parents and couldn't be more excited! Tanner's dad lived in Belgium for two years in the 80's and this is his first time back in 40 years! We loved seeing his reactions and experiencing walking in some of the areas where he lived. It's great to have family with us again here in Europe!

The tower buildings of Mutsaard, Laken/Laeken. Some weird people live there. Curfew at 10pm, After that, you're not allowed to make any noise. Washing machine turning, preparing food, even walking around. Or you'll have some neighbour banging at your door. Had a girlfriend who lived there until she couldn't take it anymore. The police regularly patrols their parking lot too.

Since Belgium is not far away from my hometown Cologne and because I like it (used to live there), I'm often visiting this country (even more often than the Netherlands). I was there yesterday (Ardennes). The Friterie (2:27) is probably the most famous one. I bet your dad remembered it, because it's also very old.

Great video of arriving in Belgium. It must have really been special for your family to be there, after your dad's mission in 1980. The architecture and beauty of the building is really amazing. Glad that you had footage before, as they were setting up and the finished product of the Carpet of Flowers. I can see that it will be difficult for the 3 of you, when Tanner's parents have to leave and go back home.

In Belgium you also should visit Brügge and Gent, very lovely towns.

You ate Belgian fries. The name French fries dates from world War 1 when american soldiers ate them at the Belgian Frontline where fresh was spoken, but Belgium is bilingual country. Majority of the people speak flemish(kind of dutch) and the rest speaks French, so they thought they were in France which was not the case.....

Hi together, I have never been to Brussels and yes amazing architecture. Once as a kid at 8 I have been to Lüttich, Liege with coal mining nearby and I remember it wasnt that clean in the city. Mhhm belgium waffles, soooo good. Good on ya Tanner to take your dad to this place even he doesnt remember everything but I guess he got some feelings back. May I ask on what kind of missionary trip he has been ? At the end I had to laugh. Willa is more and more to able to communicate and time will come when you Risa will be speechless about kids logic. 😀 Just a hint for you Tanner, when both girls starts discussing and may be fighting who is right, who is not, stay out of the dicussion who ever will call you for help, for assistances, otherwise both girls will hold together again and will blame you for everything. 😀 As I mentioned several time before, Its a shame Willa will not realy remember where she has been and what she mad. May be this time she will remember having a really good time with grand ma and grand dad. When I see such a good connection I am sure Willa will sleep overnight with them from time to time. Waiting for the huge flower carpet.

Which Belgium? Flanders or Wallonia? Flanders speaks Dutch and Wallonia speaks French. That's why street signs in Brussels have to be in two languages. I don't even know how the story ended like this. The north of Belgium didn't want to stay with the Netherlands and the south didn't want to stay French. Thus was assembled a country that constantly stresses that it doesn't fit together but has no choice but to stay together. Then there is the German minority in the east of the country. But Belgium is also particularly rich in history. Belgium got large parts of Luxembourg. Only a small part of Luxembourg remains today. But today, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg often work together because they have a common history and same interests.

@chrisdupont1195

It's a bit more complicated than that. The whole country was French between 1793 and 1815, then Dutch from 1815 (end of Napoleon) and 1830 (Belgian revolution). So the South could not STAY French because it was Dutch in 1830. At the time, French was the language of the elites, in the South and the North. Common people spoke a wide variety of dialects, either Roman (Walloon, Picard) or Germanic (Flemish). So the South started to speak French, but the North did not want to and started speaking Dutch.

Read your history. Saying things like we didn't want to be french or dutch shows a lot of ignorance from you.you can't talk about Belgian history without the Spanish imperium and the wars against the orange house and the Nederlands. Even after the independence they were plans to anex Belgium to France but it was disregarded by the other majors powers in Europe.Belgium was build upon agreements and as a buffer to protect England and avoid conflicts.the so called independence war wasn't even a war.again,read your history.

If you want to enjoy a Liege waffle like us belgians do, dont take toppings, Liege waffles should not have toppings (They add it to try to get more tourists to buy it). Dont forget to experience a real frituur and our chocolate (most eaten chocolate by us belgians is Cote D'or). And yes belgium was a great country before politicians ruined it and now we are even graduatly becoming a minority in own country(i am already a minority in my city and brussels has 18% Belgians...). I will be permanently leaving Belgium beginning of octobre. Thank you European and Belgian politicians for ruining our country.
