Today we had our first nasi padang in Indonesia. Nasi Padang is an extremely unique experience that everyone who visits Indonesia should have. Nasi padang, is a dish of steamed rice served with various choices of pre-cooked dishes coming from West Sumatra, Indonesia. It is named after the city of Padang, in West Sumatra. You come to the right place. Resto Padang Surya on Bendungan Hilir (central jakarta) is one of the famous and also one of the oldest padang resto (more than 40 years). The late famous chef Antoine Boudain also came to this place to taste the padang food. When you had taste this padang resto you've set your bar high of padang food, since not every padang resto will have the same good taste like that 😊

Tergantung rumah makanya, beda RM beda rasa.. disekitar rumah saya ada kali 10 lebih RM makan padang, tapi yg enak bisa diterima lidah saya cuma 2 😂

Ada ragam resto pdang yg tenar sedap rasanya sprri (garuda-sari bundo-sderhana-natrabu-pagi sore) tp smpe skrg msih bingung mana yg fav n full mantulllnya krna smua nampol enaknya dgn rasa citra rasa yg berbeda , saat gak lapar aja tp tiap x di tawarin n liat pdang food jd kepingin mau mkan lagi , Jempol n bravo tourist well chosee decission too

In the Padang Restaurant concept they bring small plates of whatever there is on the menu, for instance they put 2 pieces of rendang in the small plates, if you take break off pieces of the rendang you pay for the whole rendang, so if you have a plate of rendang containing 2 pieces of rendang and you a breakoff the rendang you pay for the whole piece of rendang, if you take aa vegetable dish like the cassaava dish that is counted the whole dish.

Surya Resto is one of my favorite padang food restos in Jakarta if I go back to Indonesia. Drooling now....imagine I am eating there. Gulai otak or cow brain curry is one of my favorite dishes.

Just telling you how to eat with your hands directly. Press the rice and side dishes first on the tips of your fingers before then putting them in your mouth. What I saw seemed to be just collecting it and not compacting it so it scattered when I was about to put it in my mouth. Some types of rice cannot be pressed, but after mixing with the curry sauce, they can usually be pressed. Good luck trying it, hopefully eating with your hands will be more delicious.

Most of plates contains of two things, say 2 chickens, two rendangs, 2 perkedels If the plate is empty you will charged 2 rendangs, if left 1, you only pay 1 rendang., but for vegetable they count it as 1 plate like casava/singkong gulai, so no mater you finish or just eat a little, you will be charged 1 plate. That's why they can cout it without asking what you have eaten. So when you see their bill you only see Renangs 2, rice 3, chicken 1... and in the cashier you will know how much money you need to pay for all.

Most tourists eat local food in places that are quite luxurious, but dude, you are in the right place, if you see a lot of local people in that place, make sure it is the place with the most authentic taste
