We are a married Thai-Canadian couple learning about Sweden!

The word grina is true. In the south of sweden it means laugh, in the middle and above (I guess) it means to cry,

7:20 He exaggerated that "for comic effect", as he likes to put it himself. A few dialectal words differ, but it's not often something like that happens.

There are a few words that are used in different ways depending on where in Sweden you live, also some words are only used in parts of the country. It CAN cause some confusion at first but it's rarely a problem.

Swedish dialects are very different from each other, sometimes with a whole new vocabulary. Skåne is close to Denmark, and used to belong to Denmark, so the Swedish there is very influenced by that. Close to the Norweigian border it's very influenced by Norwegian. But there are so many different dialects all over Sweden. Some of them are very difficult for regular Swedes to understand. I know this because I speak one of them and I can't speak that with my friends from Stockholm. It's like I'm bi-lingual even if it's all Swedish.

"Ballar" is another word that differs from south to north. In the south it basically means butt, in the north it's the balls. So imagine my surprise when a girlfriend (from the south) told me she was sore in the balls from training. (She meant butt) 😂

He’s got a thick dialect, but he is fully understandable even by Stockholmer like myself 😂 Great that you liked him, and keep working on the Vader decanter thing.

His accent is not too far from the Danish language; this is the standard accent in the Southernmost parts of Sweden. Typically they pronounce the "r's" far back in their throats, which makes the accent occasionally a bit difficult for Central and Northern Sweden citizens to understand.

It's not thick, rather a pretty mild skånsk accent :)

@@Vinterfrid I can understand rolling consonants just fine. It the vowel slurring that gets me.
