“Vogue” was a a dance style that did involve striking poses. It was sort of an underground dance in gay clubs, but Madonna brought it to the mainstream. P.S. I love the Golden Girls shirt!!

You never heard of Madonna? Seriously? She's one of the most influential artists on the planet. Her catalog is huge and varies in so many styles and musical genres! With over 350 million albums sold, one of the best selling artists of all time, 12 #1's in the US, over 60 Top 10 hits and many successful world tours. She pioneered the art of the music video along with Michael Jackson in the 80's and has had a very successful career for a female in pop. With hits from the 80's, 90's, 00's and well into the 2010's - Her career has influenced so many artists, and still is working hard today. This video was made in 1990 and pays respect to Hollywood Glamour of the 1940's. You should really dig into her catalog and explore why she's important. Congrats on finding this!

When did Madonna come out????? Yikes lol. Madonna came out in the early 80s and became the biggest star in the world. She is The Queen of Pop. She was Beyonce, Lady Gaga and all those ladies wrapped into one back then. Vogue came out in 1990. Vogue was a type of dance in the underground gay ballroom/dance scene from nightclubs in the late 80s. This song is one of the many reasons Madonna is so beloved in the eyes of gay men. She saw the style, she loved it and rather than claim it for herself, she put it into the mainstream and elevated gay music, style, dance and culture in a way that only she could do, in a time where gay men were mostly reviled, during the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Madonna was/is a champion of gay rights. She has worked tirelessly to fight against and educate the world about HIV and she has earned the love and respect of LGBT people. And, most importantly, its still a great song. Oh and Adele sings "Hello from the other siiiiiiide" lol

I have to dispute your comment on the song Vogue. I used to love the song and video, but now it just makes me angry and it leaves a decidedly bad energy around me. First off, Madonna utilised black and brown gay and transgender ballroom culture for her own benefit. She couldn't even give credit to the culture, maybe white gay people love the song, but if black and brown gay people like it, I'm not sure. Even in her rap she never once mentions any of the houses of ballroom, unlike Malcolm McLaren who did in his song Deep in Vogue. She doesn't even mention any black and brown stars, meanwhile how she made her money back in the day was off black American music. Madonna is an appropriator of black music and dance, and more than that, she's very disingenuous about it, maybe that's why she's looking so crazy in these celebrity streets right now.

There's a lot more to the song than the title and dance. Toward the end of the song, a group of names are sung. They were just a few of the stars from what was called "The Golden Age of Hollywood." The only one not from the movies was DiMaggio, who played baseball). If you have seen their work from back in the day (circa 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s), then you'll fully understand the true depth of the song. For you "youngsters," here's the breakdown: Greta Garbo and (Marilyn) Monroe (Marlene) Dietrich and (Joe) DiMaggio Marlon Brando, Jimmy Dean (a.k.a. James Dean) on the cover of a magazine Grace Kelly, Harlow Jean (a.k.a. Jean Harlow) picture of a beauty queen (Grace Kelly, who became Princess Grace of Monaco) Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers dance on air (they were top dancers in their day) They had style, they had grace Rita Hayworth gave good face Lauren (Bacall), Katharine (Hepburn), Lana (Turner), too Bette Davis, we love you Happy listening!

Madonna's first album was in 1983. Vogue is from 1990. Voguing is a dance style originated in underground gay clubs in NY in which dancers would dance imitating poses from magazine covers. Madonna brought it to the mainstream and put those dancers in the spotlight. That's why this song is such a cultural icon. And a gay icon for sure. This is one of the most influential music videos ever made. Today's artists are still taking elements from it. Please react to more Madonna! You must react to "Justify My Love" and "Take a Bow".

She was the Beyoncé and Kardashians rolled into one! I don’t think she could have gone anywhere in the world without being recognised. It’s crazy to me that she’s so forgotten so quickly, this isn’t someone from way back in the 40’s this is someone who was massive in my life time! And this song was HUGE. Glad you enjoyed it though, more please 😁

“Deeper and Deeper” “Vogue” “Human Nature” “Live to tell” “Holiday” “Ray of Light”... Countless gems that woman produced in a career of almost 40 years, changing her looks every single time she released a new song, including some musical surprises (“Dear Jessy”) and some major scandals at the time (“Open your heart”)

Madonna started her career in the early 80’s as and is still doing the damn thing! She was 32 yrs old in 1990 when she did the song VOGUE! Madonna has reinvented herself time and time again just because she’s that talented, ambitious, and creative! At every phase of her career she always managed to climb to new heights of success because she was a risk taker in the pop industry and a legendary icon! Not to mention a very heavy fashion icon as well! What you saw in the video was a glimpse of phase 2! She softened her look to be more grown up, sophisticated, and elegant! She was massively influenced by “OLD HOLLYWOOD” aka: THE GOLDEN AGE! A time period where all films were all black and white and women and men dressed that way, minus a over exaggerated cone shaped bosom bra she was sporting in one scene! 🤣 But that’s Madonna! She puts her spin on everything and cranks it up a notch! She was the LADY GAGA of her time! Oh and by the way, “HELLO” is by Adele! 🤣

Great description! Madonna is an unbelievable businesswoman and entertainer who understood how to capture the world's attention through reinvention! She used all of her talents and creativity, as well as social issues, to stay ahead of everyone else in the industry. She is our 1st Queen of Pop, and she forged the path for Brittney, Lady Gaga, and so many more. Madonna did everything big and on a worldwide stage. It was Madonna, Michael, Prince, Bruce, Sting, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, etc. Whitney Houston was The Voice, and Celine was around, too. But no other woman had the impact on fashion trends, dance moves, hair styles, and attitude like Madonna. Madonna worked her ass off and performed non-stop around the world and drew huge crowds. She was a dominant presence in the music industry.

Thanks guys! Don't feel bad that you didn't know Madonna. Because you do now!!! Icons like Madonna and Michael Jackson used the onset of MTV to become superstars. If you think about it, before MTV, we did not have music videos, at least not an entire channel for them. You could watch it all day. Madonna was a genius at capitalizing on the MTV platform. You got a short film for each song, rather than just footage of a band playing. I kept asking for them to do this song in particular, but there are so many of hers that you might want to toss in the mix now and then, because there is always a great story there too.

Vogue was about attitude and the people Madonna 'rapped' about near the end of the song are ICONIC musicians and actors that illuminated that same attitude and style.

Beautiful Stranger... all really good ones, & good vids. With her first ever single, they didn't put her face on the cover, & everyone assumed she was a black artist! lol i like the more dance music stuff :-)

This song came out in 1990. Madonna is a legend. She has been around since the early 1980s and she has had hits every single decade since then. You should check out "Material Girl", "Into the Groove" "Express Yourself", "Take a Bow", "Ray of Light", "Music", "Hung Up" to name a few. She has also acted and contributed music to many movies.

Madonna burst onto the scene in 1983. It was a meteoric rise to super stardom. Sometimes she would have two songs in the top 10 at once. Dom, you noticed how different she looked from her last video you watched. Madonna is famous for changing her look and reinventing her self. She is one of the biggest stars of all time. Other great songs from her are Papa dont Preach, LIke a Virgin, Beautiful Stranger, Express Yourself, Cherish

Madonna is arguably the biggest icon in popular music and has been making music and performing live for almost 40 years. You guys should check out the Vogue scene in Harlem and the TV show Pose to understand the history behind the song. Glad you discovered Madonna. There's lots more to explore from 4 decades of her work.

This was made in 1990 and shot to emulate the old Hollywood glam from the 40's and 50's era. Madonna remains the best selling female artist of all time for a reason. She is completely diverse, each album sounding nothing like the last and has remained a performer to this day, 4 decades later. Her first album is from 1983.
