Marinette's school is not a fashion school. It's a regular school. It's a "collège", the French equivalent to middle school, with students from 6th to 9th grade. That fashion contest is just an extracurricular thing.

The first few seasons they had very strict rules so they could promote it on kids networks the show was originally intended for teens but kids networks accepted them and they had to go based in certain criteria to get certain episodes to air so the plot begins slow paced and then they progress a lot kore the further down the season you go

From what I can tell, Marinette's school seems not to have a specific focus, fashion or otherwise. However, a lot of the students are involved in some form of art, so maybe the school is known for its arts program. Whatever the case, it seems to be a school for the well off, cause it has a lot of connections to rich/famous people like Gabriel Agreste and Chloe's dad, the mayor
