I watched the whole season in one day. Didn't even know about it until i saw a thread on Twitter talking about the finale. Can't believe there wasn't a lot more publicity for the show. It's a gem. Can't wait for season 2.

Isn't this the first time Rhys Darby is a lead in a show. If so. Good on him. He has been some of the funniest supporting characters in a lot of stuff over the year. Much deserved.

I think this concept might be based on Stede Bonnet, a wealthy landowner in Barbados who turned to pirating in 1717 because of an unhappy marriage. He turned out to be surprisingly successful at it.

Finally, something that seems original and worth watching.

Fun Fact: Blackbeard actually heavily encouraged his crew to be literate.

My inner historian is annoyed by Blackbeard (a Bristolian) sounding Kiwi xD, but my outer Taika Watiti fandom is psyched to see him as Blackbeard

[I should also point out that in the same scene Waititi looks like he plays bass for a Judas Priest cover band, but never mind....]
