I'm so sorry to hear about Crosley. There really is no good option in a situation like that. As awful as it is, you chose the option that was safest and I think you did the right thing, there was honestly nothing else you could have done but I am very sorry for your loss. Its so hard to lose a beloved pet.

Crosley was an older dog. It seems like he may have been starting dementia if that was out of character for him. Dogs can sometimes get aggressive in dementia because they are confused and get scared. I’m so sorry that happened to you guys 😢

I also had a dog that was hearing impaired. I believe that when 1 sense stops working other senses get more heightened like sense of smell. It’s possible that this woman was on some medication or perfume scent that he could’ve smelled in his heightened state and that might have triggered a response in him that was out of character. My dog started biting when he lost his hearing too and we had to put him down as well. Don’t beat yourself up Whitney. You did everything you could to help in that moment. Sawyer looks so cute with his new haircut. Darcy’s doing great. It’s amazing how much they’ve grown!!! Glad to hear that Miss A is doing well too. Stay sweet all of you. Much L0❤E

My condolences about Crossly. ❤❤❤ Your story had me in tears because as a pet lover, and although the incident was bad, I know how hard it was to surrender him. 😢😢😢 I’m a foster parent as well, and no judgement on your decision because you actually have small children, I don’t, but my dog is my child, so I would have not done foster care anymore to keep my dog. I don’t think I could have surrendered him. But, again, I wasn’t in your situation, so who knows right. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. ❤❤❤

I was attacked by a dog a few years ago. I had just moved to a new country and accidentally walked into property that wasn’t mine and I was attacked. I went to hospital but the dog’s owner answered to the police and said every was fine, and because I didn’t speak the language I couldn’t communicate with them. Seeing that dog downstairs everyday for months after was traumatising for me, and I’m an absolute dog lover. I think you did the right thing. This is also the reason I’m scared to rescue a dog in the future.

Don’t feel bad about Crosley you did the right thing. I am a dog lover through and through but I think you’re absolutely right there was something wrong. 💕 hope you’re doing better. When I was 9 I got bit by one of the neighborhood dogs I walked. All the adults agreed since it was the first an only event like this that we wouldn’t report it, we’d just keep special precautions on how the dog was kept. I can’t imagine how rough it would have been in your situation where it was put down, especially for an animal lover! Glad you’re now doing okay.

Glad to see you're all doing well and I'm so sorry to hear about Crosley. No matter the situation its never easy to lose a pet especially when that decision has to be made. It doesnt take a bad dog for a bad situation to happen so dont feel too much guilt or blame yourself. I got bitten by a dog that was the sweetest thing ever and had never so much as nipped playfully at anyone before. It did the same thing as Crosley, just attacked for no obvious reason. Sometimes those things just happen and we'll never really know why. It's sad but you made a very difficult yet responsible decision. I'm so sorry for your loss but so glad to see you and your family doing well.

I'm very sorry about Crosley. Such a difficult situation and decision to make. Crosley always seemed so chill and just hung out around everyone. Like you said maybe he had something medical going on that you weren't aware of.... I had to put my senior dog down due to illness, so its different but it was so difficult to make the decision but I felt comfort knowing he crossed over peacefully and didn't suffer. Its been over two years and I still think of it often. I hope the woman is healing well and without complications. You made the right decision for you guys. Thanks for sharing a small update on your life! I'm so sorry to hear about Crosley, but I really feel you did what was best for your family. When I was growing up we adopted a 1 year old dog, had her for years and years. She did attack our other dog over food a few times, but never showed aggression towards humans. One day she growled at my mom while she was feeding her and that was it, we decided to put her down. Such a hard but necessary decision

I'm so sorry to hear about the situation with Crossley. About 10yrs ago one of our 2 dogs developed Canine Dementia and seemed confused and disoriented. We were thankful that there was a growling incident before any bite could occur, because it made it clear that he needed to be evaluated by the vet. After ruling out any other physical cause the diagnosis was made. We had the option to try an off label use of a human dementia medicine but the vet cautioned us that at best it might buy us a few more months before his behavior became more aggressive again. We had young kids and it just wasn't a safe situation. I cried for 3 days straight afterwards. We had 12 great years with him, which actually was the top of his expected lifespan. His "brother" was 6 months older than him (we think -- both were rescues) and he went downhill quickly after we lost the first one. We wouldn't change a single thing about making the decision to have them but so much love can mean much pain when they're gone. You look like you're still hurting pretty badly and maybe have some PTSD? Have you talked to a therapist?

Awww ... I'm crying for the family and Crosley. You're right about seeing a dog bite changing you forever. I had a >1 year old foster dog that I had incorporated with my pack of seven. After about six months of a peaceful pack, out of the blue she started attacking a few of my dogs. Luckily the dog being attacked just tried getting away and the other dogs did not get involved. During the last attack I had to choke her out to get her to release my dog. She looked at me so sad and confused. I am thankful that a mature foster human took the foster dog knowing her history and was willing and able to keep her safe. That was a few years ago and I stopped fostering because of her (and the dangerous to humans foster dog I had). Euthanasia is a tough decision in any situation but especially when it involves a loved pet. 💔🐾

I am so sorry that you all had to have that experience with Crosley. From decades of experience with pet rescue and veterinary I can say an incident like that seems to almost always be an indicator of either a severe medical issue with the dog, or and issue with the individual attacked. It is frustrating that the laws are so strict up there. Where I live you still have the 10 day quarantine but you at least also have options of where and they can do further testing to better understand why this happened before they determine what further steps are needed. One of my dogs actually had three bites on her “record” and in most places she would have been put down but each incident was easily explained and understandable. I’ve also been the victim of (thankfully mild) attacks and understand the trauma from both sides. Therapy might be helpful and it might be helpful to spend some time working with some rescues and behaviorists just to help yourself to feel more confident and comfortable again once you are feeling safe again. Sending hugs. 💕

I'm sorry to hear about Crosley! That must have been such a traumatic experience! I'm glad to hear Darcy is doing ok and that she wasn't too scared when it happened, and I'm sorry you're still suffering from it, even though that is totally understandable! I think you absolutely did the right thing. If he's never shown aggression before, something must have been not right. Maybe something in his brain, or his vision, or something else. Either way, I think that if a beloved family dog suddenly shows that kind of behaviour, something is wrong and they're also suffering. If you had kept him, and he had attacked one of the kids, you would never be able to forgive yourself and he would probably also have felt terrible. You saved everyone in your family, humans and animals alike, from that trauma. Also, I just wanna let you know that I know what it's like. When I was little, my family had two dogs and my grandparents had two dogs, all four being siblings. One of my grandparents dogs were a little unpredictable, so I remember knowing that I wasn't supposed to play with him. He didn't do anything though, he kind of kept to himself. Anyway, one day mum got a call from my grandmother. She told her that their male dog had been escaping from their front yard (something he never did) and attacked a little girl. She wasn't badly injured, but my grandparents took the decision then and there to have him euthanised. Even though I was little, I still remember how I almost couldn't believe he'd done that, and that I understood why they couldn't keep him.

Sending my love. As someone who volunteers closely with a local dog rescue, you did the most responsible thing. Behavioural euthanasia is so painful to deal with but bites/attacks happen and proper protocols must be followed for public safety. Knowing this doesn’t make it easier of course however I really hope you can find solace knowing the correct choice was made.

Just yesterday I was like, why am I not getting Be The Village in my KZfaq feed anymore?! Before I could investigate, this popped up! I've been watching your bento box lunches on Instagram (which is ridiculous because my kids are 16, 18 and 20 now) so... yeah- they're engrossing even for middle-agers with adult children. Go figure.. 😂😜 ANYWAY- glad you are back and I haven't missed anything. 😊 I'm so sorry to hear the Crosley story. This happened to my MIL recently with my SIL's dog. The dog went temporarily senile and latched onto my MIL's calf, in front of her young grandkids. It was pretty traumatic for all involved. The dog (12) had to be put down. There was really no other solution. It was a wretched situation. I feel for you guys. 😟🧡💛🧡

I really have missed your videos but for some reason I love watching you pack Darcy’s lunches. So sorry about Crosley. I understand what you needed to do but I’m sorry your state/city/county handles it the way they do though. I work at a vet clinic in Mn and dog bites are handled differently here at least where we are located. The owner still has the option or mandate to euthanize or 10 day quarantine then dangerous dog label but if they chose euthanasia they are able to be with the dog. I can’t imagine going through this, I’m so sorry. I would also be leery of getting another rescue dog. I have seen many great rescue dogs but unfortunately I have also been around many rescue dogs that have behavioral issues, it’s so hard.

My ex MILs dog bit me unprovoked once on the foot when we were dog sitting. He broke the skin and it really hurt. My ex husband wouldn’t let me tell his parents. Flash forward a couple of months and we get the message that the dog had passed away. His mother only told us the truth, that they had to put him down after he bit my another family member who was only just 18. I felt awful and hated that I didn’t say something sooner. I think I’m always going to be weary of his breed from now on. Hoping you heal from this and just take your time to do so.

She wasn’t badly injured but still has a little scar on her arm. I’ve always been so nervous with my kids around any animals since then, because you can’t verbally communicate and animals can be unpredictable- even when owners say they’re friendly. We just have to always be respectful and careful. It’s taken me years to allow my kids near dogs since then, so I completely understand your hesitancy. You’re doing a great job :)

U guys did the right thing even know it was hard I watch a KZfaq channel right now that a girl had her top lip ripped off she was not doing anything to the dog and new the dog she is still going thru surgery the doctor had to take part of her arm to make. A lip for her also if u guys ever heard of duck dynasty Phil's wife they had three dogs for years she bent down to give her dog a kiss she had to get reconstruction surgery on her lips your right to be concerned I know u guys love to help by fostering & rescue dogs however I think I would wait till the kids are older to rescue a dog cause u really never know but then again it can be the sweetest dog & all of a sudden go bad so sorry that happened & u had to put him down not your guy fault what so ever

I know it was a hard decision with Crosley but it was the right call. I lost a dog when I was a kid to a bite that was a lot less aggressive than that (no blood, barely a bruise) after a kid I hung around taunted our dog. My family doesn't keep dogs who bute hard enough to leave a mark and animal control gave us the same options so we had to say goodbye to our dog. Our dog was provoked but we still weren't given options.

I definitely think you made the right decision about Crosley. Something must be very wrong for him to just lose it like that, he may have been suffering if he hadn't been euthanised, and given how sudden and strong the switch in him was, I think if he hadn't been euthanised, it would have happened again and again. I'm sorry that you were in the position of having to make that decision though.

You made the right choice with Crosley. Years ago, my younger sister was attacked in our yard by the neighbor's dog (with the owners right there). It wasn't a bite, but it was a bad scratch. It required stitches ... and less than 1/2 an inch more and she would have lost an eye. At the ER, a Sherriff's Deputy unholstered his service weapon and was willing to offer it to my dad. Since it wasn't a bite, the dog warden didn't do anything.

I get how you handled in the moment, but next time definitely get a medical and behavioral evaluation first before you put down a dog, because you might put it down unnecessarily. Often if older pets suddenly display aggression like that it is a medical problem that causes them a lot of pain or that messes with their thyroid which are both easy problems to fix. Again I am not upset with your choice, I can get it, but I wanted to share this knowledge with you and everyone els who might find themselves in a situation like that.

Was Criossley part Dalmatian? I’ve been told they are agressive. I babysat once and their dog was a Dalmatian and I took the baby out front to swing and they snarled and barked at me with the baby in the front yard. I’m so sorry you had to make that horrible decision but as much as I love dogs you did do the responsible pet owner thing and even though you loved your dog this behavior is absolutely not ok.. I love Pit Bulls but I would never ever be ok with an agressive one.

There's no way..I would have had to take the dog to be put down myself. I couldn't give my dog over to die alone.

I do not disagree because if it came down to it I would probably do the same.

Thee is always a reason a dog bites and often it is not the dogs fault. They may be old and in pain and fearful or some aging dementia. They may be in a situation they don’t like. Like lots of new people or small children making loud noises and sudden movements

Would it be possible for you to put an animal death warning in the description? That really caught me off guard and I wouldn't have started the video if I'd realized it was going in that tragic of a direction.

girly im gonna need you to chill on the "I have ptsd" after your dog bit someone else. like I'm sure you're nervous to get another dog, but please dont go around saying you have "ptsd", ESPECIALLY as a foster parent who literally deals with kids who actually have PTSD
