Haha I love your communication style, I feel like we are very similar. I will probably be loosing my marbles when mine are in high school too Haha but! right now I'm in the good easy time with little ones. My oldest being in kindergarten so things are nice and easy and quick over here. Even with some sickness we still even got our homeschooling "to-do's" done so that has been feeling pretty accomplishing. I love your desire to be there for your kids, even if they just have questions. And how involved you are in like the Spanish and geometry, your oldest toughest subjects (I'm with you about math, more hate than love tho haha) Stay strong Mama! And thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your comment! Enjoy those early years with your children! I feel as if educating your children gets harder the older they get, but there is often more independence and responsibility taken which is nice to see as well! There’s also a lot of joy in those older years as well. Being able to homeschool our kids can be so rewarding for them and for us!

We are behind but that’s fine. I didn’t get my materials til late so really we didn’t start til late Sept but my progress reports aren’t due anytime soon either so it all works out. I let my daughter return to public school, she stayed not even 2 weeks. She hated it. I think it was overwhelming for her and you know some kids are raised differently than ours, so we won’t be doing that again. As far as acid reflux. It’s been dire on my life and caused EoE. So now I take many meds and it’s a constant battle. I understand completely about that. Well, take care fellow Abeka family and be well. Blessings and we’ll get through this together. ❤

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter and the public school! I ask my kids every year if they want to go to public school, and they always say no. I think for me it also has to do with what school districts you live in and how the schools are rated. If we lived close to a Christian school then I would send them to a Christian school or to other schools. I always wanted to be a teacher growing up. I just never thought that I’d be a homeschool teacher! 🤣 i’m sorry to hear about your EOE that must be a daily struggle . My acid reflux is getting a little bit better, but it’s something that I’m trying to control without prescribed meds. I may have to go back on them. It’s so hard because I have to really watch what I eat. I feel for you! I’ll be thinking about you and your family and praying for you all! Enjoy the holidays coming up! 🍁🍁

Hi Bonnie! Thank you so much for your words of encouragement. Homeschooling can definitely become overwhelming (especially with Abeka where the workload can seem overbearing at times). It is important we stay focused and remember why we are doing this. We could always use prayers. I will definitely keep your family in my prayers as well❤️ I noticed you mentioned your acid reflux. My 16 year old daughter has been experiencing stomach pain with bloating and belching. She has had on and off nausea with no appetite. We took her to see the family doctor and a GI doctor, they both said it sounded like acid reflux based on the symptoms. We just bought her otc pepcid chewable 2 days ago (she doesnt know how to swallow pills yet), but it hasnt seemed to help yet. Do you mind if I ask if those are the same symptoms you get? It’s a little frustrating that there are no actual tests the doctor can give to 100% confirm if that is what she has. She las laid off of fatty, greasy, and spicy foods but still experiences the pain and discomfort in her belly. I hope you don’t mind me asking. Thanks again for all your videos❤️

Hi Jenny! I’m sorry to hear about your daughter and her stomach pain. The digestive area is tricky to diagnose. For me though I have acid reflux with Gerd so I have burning on the left side under my rib cage and then now I’m experiencing some pain in the middle. Backing up 15 years I was experiencing the same symptoms except for the pain in the middle and I went to see a doctor and they prescribed me a PPI. Those are some of the strongest that you can use for acid reflux or gerd. You’re supposed to take them an hour before you eat. Those helped for a while. I was on Prilosec I think on 40 mg. You can buy them over the counter but most people get a prescription for that much. You can buy 20 mg over-the-counter. Since she is so young they may not want to do the PPI route. So those medication’s worked and the pain went away for years and then I weaned myself off of them slowly and then I’ve enjoyed about five years or so with no symptoms. I would have a couple flareups based upon stress or what I would eat or my hormones now that I’m older. So now I am back to where I was in the beginning. I think I ate too much punch and too much sugar one day. So sugar is also a culprit, a big one, and the next day I was in a lot of pain. I try to stay away from a lot of non-homemade sugar items. I try to stay away from butter, icing or cream cheese, icing of any sort and of course the fats and the spice. I think now that I’m pre-menopausal, though my hormones are getting worse and that’s affecting my acid reflux and my stress level and is high. Now in your daughters case, is she stressed? How long has this been going on? my only thoughts were that if she is not eating, she might have an ulcer. usually treatment for ulcers is the PPIs along with some thing called sucralfate. I have a prescription for that. It basically heals the lining of your stomach and protects it from acid. If she doesn’t improve in a couple of weeks, I would take her back. I also have had a endoscopy done where they stick a camera down esophagus and look in your stomach. They could check for ulcers that way. The only other thing she could take are tums but just make sure she doesn’t go over the right dosage for the day. I also avoid pop and other products. Carbonated drinks really upset my stomach. So until I completely heal, I have to be on a strict diet and then once I start getting better, I start to weave in more of the foods I’m not allowed to really eat. Where is her pain at exactly? It could also be her gallbladder. People have told me that heartburn pain can be gallbladder associated as well. I really don’t have any pain below the belly button mine is all above and to the middle or left. I hope she feels better! ❤️ Thank you for the prayers. I’ll be thinking of you and your family and let me know how your daughters doing! It’s hard for us as Mom’s to see our kids in pain or not happy; I’ll be praying for you and your daughters health and your homeschooling! ❤️🍁

Hi Bonnie so sorry for the delayed response. I am so sorry to hear that you have been going through this for years. I pray for you and that God may give you healing. It’s like you say, digestive issues are so hard to diagnose. My daughter does say she feels a sense of anxiety which may contribute to her symptoms. The worst thing she feels is the nausea. For the last few days she has been extremely nauseous nonstop with no appetite. When she does eat, she starts burping a lot! Then her tummy starts to hurt. She constantly looks bloated. I made another appointment for next week with a different doctor just to get another opinion. I wish she would take the medication they prescribed her, but she is so scared of swallowing pills. 😢

Hi Jenny, how is your daughter now? Has she been able to get in to see a doctor or gastroenterologist? I’m sorry it took me a while to respond. I didn’t realize you had commented! It sounds like she may have an ulcer or inflammation. If she has belching, that is a clue that it’s something stomach oriented more than likely. For the most part I have to be on a very strict diet and take medication when I need it. Also advise her to eat slowly. That has helped me a lot. If you eat your food too quickly, that’s hard on your stomach. I hope she was able to see someone and get some answers!

@@ahallelujahplace Hi Bonnie! Thanks for all the advice! Thankfully, she has toughened up and learned how to swallow what the doctor prescribed. She is taking pantoprazo 40mg along with zofran. She just started to take them 3 days ago and is showing some signs of improvement praise the Lord. She is still experiencing symptoms, but hopefully will start to go away soon with the meds. I have told her all that you said and she says thank you very much. We are extremely appreciative of you taking the time to respond with all the great advice❤️

Hi Jenny, I’ve never heard of that med before but it’s another PPI similar to what I was on! I hope it continues to work for her and that she can get some relief for the holidays and you as well! ❤️ I’ll continue to pray for her!

My oldest has used Abeka Math 4th-6th grade and next year I'm considering jumping to Pre-algebra. He is gifted in math and making A's and high B's. From your experience, do you think skipping Math 7 and going to Pre-algebra will be a mistake?
@ahallelujahplace
@ahallelujahplace 4 ай бұрын
Hi Melanie! That’s a good question! I think that there is a big jump from six grade math to seventh grade math! Of course, both of my kids were not gifted in math. I do think there is a big jump though! If he wants to get credit towards high school math he has to take those classes in high school. So for high school it’s usually algebra 1 algebra 2 geometry pre-calculus. I’m just thinking what would he take in eighth grade? Because I think in order for it to count as a credit for algebra one he would have to be in high school. You could always call Abeka and make sure. But for me, and since my boys are not gifted, they’re average in math though, I would not skip it for them. My oldest also got A’s and B’s. You could always try it and I think you have 30 days to return it? There are sample videos online for pre-algebra. Maybe have him watch some and see what you think? You can also sign up to get free watch hours, so you could always sign up for that and do a couple of lessons and see if he catches on quickly. I hope this helps! 😊

The robotics or culinary is SPOT on…DONT DO ALL THE PROBLEMS either…why accredited…your so stressed out trying to check off other peoples boxes. We count vaca days as school bc they learn so much. Kids in public have craft classes, work for credit in senior year…your kids are not having fun…bc your not enjoying this…it sounds like “get up,,,hurry start by 8 so we can go go go”. Listen to yourself….God will point you and I think praying WITH the kids before you start….I really think the pieces of Abeka is stressing you out bc your trying to do all the pieces.

Hi, and thank you for your comment. However, I think you’re getting the wrong feeling from this video and I’m sorry for that. I never said the kids weren’t having fun though. The kids are having fun it’s me who is having to learn how to discipline myself. We are not accredited, but we do the same amount of work. He will be accredited next year, and I think people who choose to do accredited are fine as well there’s nothing wrong with that. They want to make sure that their children are getting an approved curriculum and that’s fine. Lots of people choose that route. Also having to start by eight is fine when the public school usually starts around 730. Here having a schedule where you know what your start time is going to be is actually beneficial to children. They know when to start by a certain time and that’s how the real world works. I was just disappointed because we were starting at eight and then I started letting them sleep in more like nine and then we can’t finish our day. This is a typical homeschool struggle. As far as culinary, I’m talking about taking a culinary class outside of the home. He will be taking a culinary class his junior year. He has taken robotics outside of the class before. I think maybe you haven’t watched most of my videos. The kids are having a blast. They are involved in co-ops. They have fall parties, and my oldest is going to a Homeschool Ball. He also spent a month in New Mexico. We usually finish our homeschool day by three so that my son can get out the door and they can do sports. I agree that it’s important for kids to have fun. I also think it’s important for there to be a balance, and this is where some people choose to use Homeschooling as a means for having fun when really it’s a means of incorporating both. The schoolwork-some should be hard. It should make kids think and ponder and it should be a little bit on the hard side especially when you were in high school that’s how it was for me and I was in public school and home school. It should not be all about play because that’s not how the real world works and if they expect to go to college math is not going to take 10 minutes it’s going to take an hour in that regard. I think that Abeka prepares them for that. My children are also like using Abeka. They know that it’s a good curriculum and they hope to be able to attend the graduation ceremony. We visited the school in Florida where they can graduate. Thank you for your comments and everybody has a different approach to homeschooling, some are more relaxed than others. I believe that we tend to do a bit of both. I am notorious for taking days off for doing surprise field trips with my kids so I’m just thinking that you haven’t watched all of my homeschooling videos. Also, you’re right we all need to breathe and that’s what I’m focusing on in this video is getting back to myself and managing my time but also being there as much as I can for the children. And we do start our mornings with prayer and worship! Thank you for commenting!I hope that you are happy with your homeschooling and that you guys have a good holiday season!🍁🍁
