Lyrics:
I walked around my good intentions
And found that there were none
I blame my father for the wasted years, we hardly talked
I never thought I would forget this hate
Then a phone call made me realize I'm wrong
And if I don't make it known that I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that we ignore
Because we're all dumb and jaded
And, and I hope to God I figure out what's wrong
I walked around my room not thinking
Just sinking in this box
I blame myself for being too much, like somebody else
I never thought I would just bend this way
Then a phone call made me realize I'm wrong
And if I don't make it known that I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that we ignore
Because we're all dumb and jaded
And, and I hope to God I figure out what's wrong
{Kickass Guitar solo}
And I hope to God I figure out what's wrong
And I hope to God I figure out what's wrong
If I don't make it known that I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that we ignore
Because we're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out what's wrong
And if I don't make it known that I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that we ignore
Because we're all dumb and jaded
And, and I hope to God I figure out

This was my dads favourite song. He was terminally ill for 15 years until this saturday god came down and took him away. It always made me sad why this was his favourite and tonight it hit me " If I dont make it know that I loved you all along" Love you so much Dad, the best Dad and small engine mechanic there ever was. I'll see you again oneday.

Growing up in foster care in Ontario for most of my life was hard. There were so many times I felt like giving up. Feeling alone in such a hard place at such a young age where horrible stuff happened daily was a hell. Our lady peace was a big part of my life back then. These songs were a medicine to me and helped me not feel so alone in the darkest place a kid could be. Thanks OLP.

Noah, My son, If you end up reading this I want you to know that you are so precious to me. Your kind heart and empathy for those around you is a gift to this world. Just remember, everyday that you are on this earth is a day that you can bring comfort to someone or bring a smile to their face. People like you are what make living in this world a beautiful experience. Love, Dad

It's funny how you can not hear a song for such a long time, yet remember all the words the moment you hear it again. 'Clumsy' was one of my fave albums from the 90s and this was one of my fave songs to hear OLP play in concert.

***** Music and lyrics are one of the things that stay with us for our entire lives. Music memory is stored in all sorts of areas of the brain, not just one area, which is why, we are able to remember music even after the rest of our mind goes (say with Dementia and Alzheimer's. You might not remember the person sitting in front of you, but you remember an entire song from your childhood.

For me this song is about not holding onto grudges against beloved family members. I had a grudge against my father and didn't talk to him for several years, and I'm glad I kicked that habit before I turned 30 because I got another several great years getting to know my Dad as an adult before his passing. Don't hold onto the grudge if it's going to hurt more when they are gone. ✝

My dad's in the hospital right now with COVID and pneumonia. We haven't had a father/son relationship since I was a kid. He used to be a heavy alcoholic, and he was hateful and violent. He's in his 70s now, and a broken shell of a man, so he probably won't survive this. I hope he does. He hasn't drank in nearly 15 years, but the damage is done, both to his body, and to my mental state. Between hearing this song, and Thief, a song about a young girl who died of brain cancer...how I happened upon these two relevant songs tonight, when I needed them most is amazing. I've been a fan since they released their album Clumsy in 1997. But I haven't listened to them in over a decade. Tonight, some reviewer mentioned their new album (I had no idea were even together anymore), so I started retroactively started listening to my favorite OLP albums, starting with Clumsy. When I listened to Thief, I never really paid attention to the lyrics. In 2020, I was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. It was supposed to have killed me by the end of 2020, but here I am. I LOVED these songs when they came out, and for years after. I NEEDED these songs right now, and for some time before. But I have them now. Life and death are a trip for sure. I forgive you, dad. Wholeheartedly.

I liked this song in the 90s and two weeks ago my dad lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. We never had a good relationship and never spoke, well the last 2 years I moved in with him to take care of him, this song really resonates with me now more than ever. Despite our differences I'll always love you dad I know you are in heaven and no longer in pain.

Jeremy. I suffer from pancreatic issues and a slew of other health problems. Pain piles up and it truly destroys you as a person. People around you become miserable not only because they are helpless but also because pain can also make a person cruel and intolerable. I usually troll but you stood out because I know someday my children will only remember my painful years. I'm not at all kind and lack social skills because I am in so much pain at times that my quality of life just simply isn't there. What I can so though, is that deep inside, the people I push away, make despise me, or have wrong due to that pain are the only reason I am still here. I love them all and I'm all the pain they truly are my only relief and connection to feeling human. I share this hoping that you know that even while my children may say the same of me someday, I loved them. I think too while I can't be for sure, that you too may also have been loved.

When I was young my mother left my father after years of abuse. I was only one year old. Flash forward to 35 I thought it might be a good idea to reach out to my father's family not even knowing if he was alive. Turns out he was.. I was too hurt and scared to contact him, procrastinated for a few months then built up the courage. Called his brother, found that he was missing for a month.. police had thought they found his body and needed my DNA to determine. Gave it to the police thinking I didn't care about the results.. I'm tough. When they confirmed it was his body I never thought I would cry for weeks.. everytime I hear this song I think about what we could have been to eachother or if he even ever thought of me. Every-single-time I hear these lyrics I cry 💔

My dad was a terrible abusive person. But I still imagine a world where he changes I still hope. Because if there was true sorrow, regret and change I'd forgive. But there isn't and never will be, you can't get that from a full blown sociopath. This song is a turn around story of forgiveness I've always wanted.

I'm in the same boat. I wrote my dad. And told him he had two choice either we leave the past in the past and start fresh. Or he apologizes for everything and we move forward. He picked option two surprisingly. I don't trust him enough to not have written copy of what he says to me. And if he goes back on what he agreed to then that's it for him and my conscience will be clear.

But I dont like bitin peoples creativity. Hope you find it within yourself to forgive your father. And I dont mean to do so for his sake or piece of mind but yours. I had an almost opposite situation, my step father was psychologically abusive, but a lot of it came from ignorance & mental illness, he did have many good moments with me, but he has overall left me unintentionally damaged with the things he said to my mother & other family members. He feels incredibly remorseful but I can’t face him, he’s sorry for everything but I can’t accept it.

You can talk to him anytime/anywhere. My stepfather was so loving and caring that I honest to God believe that he pulled strings from the other side to get me my new career. I lived at home with them and he was the main bread winner. I paid rent and some bills but he made way more money than I. My mother doesn't work, and she feels she is too old to return working. They have no savings and I had no savings... we were fkd after he passed. Literally within 2 weeks of his passing I got a new job with a pension and benefits that doubles my previous earnings! Miracles truly do happen! Now I can take care of my mom and I do it in his honor.

If it’s any consolation from the other side, I divorced my wife because of who she was as a person when our kids were very young. I fought for 15 years to stay in their lives in the family courts and they never knew. After ten years of not seeing my oldest she came around it was awful. She was butter and angry and I never had a chance. It broke my heart a second time and I know we will never recover but not a day goes by that I haven’t cried for the time lost. Your dad probably feels the same way somewhere deep down and has no idea how to express it. The system chews up families like no other. Sorry for the time you lost and I hope one day it can be fixed.

When my dad was younger he went to one of OLP's concerts. Last year he ended up in hospital. I was listening to music the same night I got the call and this came on. I broke. He didn't make it, gone at 45. and this was played at his funeral because it was one of his favourites played at the concert. I sent my dad a birthday card (September 2004) with the lyrical stanzas from the beginning, "Blamed my father for the wasted years...", "Then a phone call made me realize I'm wrong" and the "If I don't make it know that I loved you all along..." part. My dad's gone now (before 2006); I'm so glad I sent him that card with lyrics; my mom told me he had a big cry. Some of my writings, and this song, are for you, Dad; thanks for all the lessons, as I'm 44 years old now, and in my mind, that means I made it:-).

I didn't have a great relationship with my dad growing up. It was after listening to this song that gave me the push to try to have a positive relationship with him. After losing my when I was 17, my dad and I grew apart because we took her death the hardest. Now I can say that my dad and I are in a place where we can respect and love one another.

+pocobird Same. I was in 8th grade when my buddy brought this album to school. I would say between 8th grade and the summer I graduated, OLP released 4 albums, and although I never really cite them as a favorite band, those 4 albums had such a powerful influence on my upbringing and my musical development. It's amazing how personal those albums are to me.

My dad is a good man but he taught me young how to take care of everything around a house. In his family, working together is recreation. He worked out of town and would be home every three to five weekends my whole life. He left me there to be a man at a young age and maintain the property, fix plumbing and electrical issues, even rebuild rooms that had major damage. The worst part of it is that he left me to care for my rapid-cycling bipolar mother and in his eyes she was always right. His family puts women on pedestals and looks after them. I spent my youth taking care of all the things a man should know how to do but also taking care of my mother. The thing about people with her condition is they need somebody to take care of them when they are in a depressive state and they need somebody to abuse when they are in a manic state and I filled both roles perfectly. Luckily, between roofing houses every summer in high school and the things I had to learn to do to maintain a home growing up, I built a successful business. I fully renovate rental houses and flip properties for investors now. I enjoy my work. I have given my mother many chances bust she has threatened to shoot me many times, once in front of my kids. I feel sometimes my dad still sees me as a child and he tries to tell me how to do things that I do for a living the one or two times per year I see him. Anyway...no matter what happens to me, I love my father he is a good man and he gave me the foundation that allowed me to build a successful business even though he left me to care for his psychotic wife who wants me dead...or wants me to hug her and wash her dishes...or wants to shoot me in the face because I exist. Guess what kind of women I have dated 😂
