The Yorkshire Dales Town of Hawes is home to the famous Wensleydale Cheese “Gromit!” and to Englands highest single drop waterfall at 100ft.
After arriving at the Hawes Club site in our Motorhome we visit the Creamery in Hawes for a bite to eat. Then the weather turned so we headed back to our Motorhome for shelter before exploring Hawes again later in the evening.
Thank you to "That Yorkshire Chap" who pointed out in the comments that the Buttertubs are actually at 12:41 in the video. I was looking the wrong way!!
00:00 Start
02:34 Hawes Creamery
04:55 Hardraw Force Waterfall Hike
11:46 Buttertubs Pass ebike ride
12:41 The actual Buttertubs
18:05 Ribblehead Viaduct ebike ride
The next day we start our adventures with hike to Hardraw Force Waterfall. It is privately owned and there is a charge of £4 per person. Entry is by the side of the Green Dragon Inn in Hardraw village. This spectacular waterfall is not to be missed though and well worth the entry fee. On approach to the waterfall head over the bridge if you want to take the steps up and slope path back or reverse if you prefer.
Wanting to make the best of every moment in the Yorkshire Dales we take an evening ride the same day along Buttertubs Pass which takes you from Hawes towards Muker past 20m deep limestone potholes called the Buttertubs. The name comes from Farmers resting there and lowering their butter into the potholes to keep it cool. This route featured as the highest of 3 climbs in the 2014 Tour de France. Thanks Richard Petter for the recommendation :)
On our final day we ride South towards Ribblehead to view the 400m long, 32m high, 24 span Viaduct. It gets pretty wet and windy so we make a hasty return back to our Motorhome in Hawes.

Hardraw Force also featured in the Kevin Cosner film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves for the shower scene, I have been there several time on the Pennine Way and also visited it again last year 2021, when I hiked from Darlington to Richmond via Barnard Castle, Middleton in Teesdale, High Force, Dufton, Appleby, Kirkby Stephen, Gardale Head, Hawes, Hardraw Falls, Gayle, Bainbridge, Asygarth Falls, Leybourne, Richmond then caught the bus back to Darlington for my return trip back to Essex. Not bad for my 60th Birthday Hike, camping along the way carrying 30kg pack including camera gear, tent, sleeping back and spare clothes.

There's a fantastic bike cafe just outside Reeth that does fantastic food that I found last year if you visit that area again. It was in October last year that I drove up the Buttertubs & had to stop for a herd of young bullocks coming down "A bit temperamental said the farmer" Love your videos especially the ones in Northern Spain. If you also go a little further west to Sedbergh, Cautley Spout is I believe the UKs highest multidrop falls at around 600ft. Ingleton Waterfall trail down from Ribblehead is also worth a visit.

Thanks for the tip, I've just googled the Cafe at Reeth and looks good. We've still more to explore in the area so the next time we are there we'll definitely give it a try👍 Northern Spain was a great trip, it was our first visit there and it massively exceeded all expectations. Many years ago I took my aunt out for the day and one of the places we visited was Hawes . It was at a time when it looked as though Wensleydale cheese would be no longer ( pre Wallace and Gromit ) . We went into the local provisions shop and to my horror , my aunt asked for half a pound of Cheshire cheese . The man behind the counter responded with ' Madam , we do not sell Cheshire cheese ' . Well , said my aunt, what do you sell ? ( The rest of the conversation was just too silly to even remember ).
