New Hyundais don't last as long as the old ones now, and this is permanent. The old 2005 Sonata and Optima, which came with a Mitsubishi 4-cylinder engine with cast-iron block at final model year, peaked the highest for reliability and durability for the Hyundai/Kia corporation.

Would a failed transmission at 30 miles in a brand new vehicle really be that contentious for the average person? There are duds all the time, you just don't hear about them because I don't see why any manufacturer wouldn't cover this unless it was obvious you were launching your brand new car or towing something beyond it's rating.

Hyundai takes good care of its customers, I’ve owned plenty with no issues. They extended warranty’s on possible issues and I’ve had friends with engine and drivetrain issues beyond 100k miles they also warrantied for them. Neither of us have followers. I do know of one person that had an oil consumption issue that they did not get warrantied because it fell inside the parameters of ok, while I didnt agree with their findings, they did follow protocol, the dealer could have done more in that case.

Totally agree, a friend of mine had an engine issue with her Elantra. The car was under warranty so the dealership took the car in and claimed that the issue was fixed but the issue continued, and after that they would not take her car back. The dealership lied and took advantage of her since she is new to the country. If anyone from Hyundai is reading my comment then you need to fix this totally unacceptable third world behavior by your dealerships.

Believe me, this experience may not be the same for regular individuals like us! It's just that, because the reviewer highlighted the issue, Hyundai + Dealer expedited the resolution as quickly as possible.

You don't have a choice in the matter. If the car is fixed under warranty, you have to take it back. There are lemon laws in many places, but that is only relevant if they can't fix the problem after repeated attempts

I am glad it didn’t take long for your vehicle to be returned. I have a ‘21 Ford Edge ST (exactly like the one you guys reviewed a couple of years ago) and it took several weeks for the dealership to diagnose the issue and another 6 weeks to fix the issue (which was a loud knocking on a cold start). Sending good car juju to you both and hope this was a super-isolated incident.

The dealership you went to gave you good service. I have been having powertrain issues with my 2022 Santa Fe Hybrid & have been to two different dealers. One dealer didnt want to do any diagnosing & blamed the issues on bad fuel. The other dealer took 12 days to diagnose the issue and claimed the issues are due to a faulty injector. Neither dealer offered a loaner. It took 3 weeks for the maintenance work & I had to rent a car for this time from my own pocket. Corporate Hyundai finally intervened & reimbursed me for the rentals.

Do you actually think they would get bad service with all this being reviewed and put out on KZfaq? If this was a normal Joe going in there they'd probably hear about supply issues and a back log of service and recall requests. Probably take weeks to get it back.😬😆

I suppose all the Hyundai owners need to unionize/form a cooperative to make Hyundai pay attention. I bought a Hyundai thinking it has the best warranty but i forgot that the warranty is only as good as the service provided by dealerships

@andresmattos7541 those are the new redesigns of the Tunda, Camry Hybrid, Sequoia's and Lexus which is more updated. These are expected with Hybrids and new redesigns. Only 15 recalls for models before 2022. Good try though

When I worked for a major Japanese manufacturer our goal was 4 day turnaround maximum. Granted this was pre-Covid, but we typically could get parts within two days from a regional warehouse and have the vehicle fixed within 24 hours of receiving parts.

I can honestly say that I have owned several new Hyundai/Kia cars and the warranty process always went great. I think it more has to do with the dealer than anything. Just yesterday I took my 2023 Kia Forte GT in because the ABS lights and all the collision system warning lights were on. The wire for the right front ABS sensor was cut in half, probably due to ice from the last heavy snow that we had, and the dealer drove 2 counties away to get the new sensor, gave me a loaner for the day, touched up a little paint chip I had in my front bumper and gave it back to me by 4pm the same day without any charge. They did not have to warranty that at all. It was not the fault of the car. It was damaged by deep snow and ice, but they fixed it for me anyway although I was prepared to pay for it because I knew it wasn’t the cars fault. Other than very minor issues, I have never had any issues with any of the Hyundai/Kias that I have owned. A fuel injector one time, a horn button another time, all taken care of quickly.

Got lucky, mine went horrible with lots of "unable to reproduce" and service delays and they don't provide you a loaner. Now Audi dealership by contrast, that is top notch!

@@BoopSnoot absolutely! It really is the dealership. I’ve had horrible dealer experiences too. Another thing that a lot of people don’t realize is that just because you bought a car from a dealer it does not mean they have to service it. Take it to a dealership that will take care of you. The warranty works at any Hyundai/Kia dealer. But luckily I’ve had good experiences with sales and service with my local dealer. Now Mitsubishi was a trash experience and I wouldn’t buy another one of them because all the dealers near me are now trash. The last good one they had recently changed to Hyundai.

My Audi was $37K brand new. A Santa Fe can easily hit $42K. Its just a brand thing, Audi focuses on pampering the customer, and loaners are always complementary. With Hyundai warranty, lots don't know loaners aren't provided so if they take a month to fix your vehicle you're SOL. Just an FYI. @@andresmattos7541

I'm currently waiting for a new transmission for my 2021 Palisade Calligraphy. Failed at 24k miles. 3 weeks now without it. I was told to expect my new transmission March 23rd.

It doesn’t seem to be isolated , if you do a search in Hyundai transmission problems there seems to be a few out there . And as soon as he said dual clutch , I for one wouldn’t go near it with a barge pole. 8000 bucks for a transmission, and you have to ask yourself , is a dual clutch likely to to give trouble down the track , for me the answer would be “ highly likely “.

There is NO WAY average people could have gotten this done in the time you all did ! Only because you all are on youtube did this get doe this quickly. Where i am Hyundai service centers employ people, i wont call mechanics that are so terribly unprofessional, they botch simple maintenance tasks, and take forever. The service reps speek in hurried half truths. Making an appointment to get a repair done, does not get a repair done, they take your vehicle in, look at it and often decide they cant accomplish the repair that day, even when they know, and are fully aware of why the vehicle is coming in. You need a part replaced? You take the vehicle to get it replaced, and they say, oh, well we will have to order that part in. Why did they accept an appointment to replace a part they dont have ? They are truely maddening! Glad you all got your transmission replaced, hope they did it correctly! And it works out for you all. I really wanted to upgrade to the new Santa Fe Hybrid when they come out , but due to their new pricing adding 8k to the price for what i have now, and mainly their treatment of me and my vehicle when recalls or service have been required, i will NOT be buying Hyundai any longer.

People need to chill out and understand that lemons always exist. People are just mad because it's hyundai. I had 2020 Sonata, and it had no problem for 3years of ownership. When my aunt got a brand new 2012 Camry, its AC system failed after 2months. However it was a great car and she just picked up a new lexus es! Let's give another chance for this santafe

lemons DO exist - but this transmission issue with the DCT has been ongoing on multiple versions of their cars. I know three people who have had this same issue - going back 6 years. If they can't make the transmission reliable, then go back to a traditional 6-8 speed automatic. I applaud Hyundai for making all their parts and materials for their products, but sometimes - you just need to know when to say: "Okay, we need to rethink this decision."

Same here my wife 2017 Sante still going strong no issues with same tires with almost 740000 miles, just the rotors were resurfaced in the next service I will do a coolant flush. My 2022 nline Tucson with 43000 no problems only realignment was done to keep my tires going.

Glad to see you got it back quickly … seeing a myriad of replies negating Hyundai and DCTs from people who actually think Toyota & Honda aren’t without faults these days after both just had major recalls in the past week. Anyway, great news, especially after that transmission went outright rather than after you all put heavy miles on it - definitely watching as I’ll be concluding my ‘23 Sonata NLine lease in the future and considering one of those in Calligraphy trim for that time.

Yup, unfortunately you can run into problems with any manufacturer as we all know. Much of it is initial luck of the draw, and then it comes down to doing vigilant with routine maintenance.

I still say a DCT isn't daily driver friendly. I'm curious to see how they hold up in the Santa Fe. One thing I've noticed in my Sonata N-Line is that the DCT really hates stop and go traffic. Obviously traffic would be a pain in a regular manual. But it gets rough and puts a lot of heat into it. I think the owners manual even warns about overheating the trans. I drive my car very hard, so I guess I'm just thankful for the 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty lol.

I also have a Sonata N Line, its a 2021. I bought this car with the idea that a 2.5 turbo engine and 8 speed DCT are a great combo. DCT can be rough at times, but don't let that overshadow the crisp shifts and fuel economy. Well so far, so good at 32K miles

Agreed. It’s not for daily stop and go driving. I have a Kia with a DCT but I don’t have stop and go during my commute. If I did, I wouldn’t have gotten a car with a DCT.

My Seltos SX Turbo DCT was fun to drive performance wise, and was absolutely flawless throughout my 3 year lease. I never had issues with overheating in stop and go traffic, but it was just a bit annoying in those circumstances. Not my transmission of preference overall.

@@1956jude 1.6T engine for the hybrid., no issues with this one either (outside some lemons) . The problematic engine for Hyundai is the 2.4L mostly I’m getting the hybrid. Don’t mind the 0.5sec difference on 0-60mph as it’ll be way more reliable. And better fuel economy as well

As commented before, Hyundai will be judged on their level of transparency as to the real issue with this transmission. For buyers of a new Hyundai this is definitely not a good feeling to have when spending this amount of money. Confidence would be shattered.

Hyundai is a great car company Having owned 2 Elantras 2003 and 2013 . Currently my 2013 just had its 11th birthday. Hyundai did not mess around and took care of it and made it right. Awesome! While we have had any warranty issues on ours my MIL had one on her 2022 Tuscon and she was super pleased with how well our dealer took care of her. She is retired now and felt like they were one of the few dealer that haven't tried to take advantage of her. I think it's worth noting our Hyundai dealer is also a Genesis dealer and I know they hold those guys to high expectations.

I’m never buying a Hyundai/Kia product, ever. The fact multiple Santa Fe’s have had transmission issues and other models have had a wide variety of other issues, I can’t get myself to get one. I’ll stick to my 11’ 328i xDrive Sport Wagon, 6 speed manual with a single hump. Never given me any issues with routine maintenance, my next car will be a Porsche due to BMW’s looking like Kia, Hyundai, and Honda products

Good evening gentlemen. That's great you guys got back the Santa Fe! Before that happened, I'm glad the dealership sprung into action quickly with the diagnosis, ordering the transmission and the replacement transmission coming in within a short time frame to the dealership. The icing on the cake for this would be everything free of charge due to the warranty. Like what you guys showed in the video, the replacement would've been very costly if it was the other way around w/o the warranty. Looking forward to seeing the full review of the vehicle.

I learned the hard way. We bought a new 2016 KIA Soul and it lasted exactly 70k before the engine completely let go. I’m talking sending a connecting rod through the block. Luckily it was covered under the warranty,but we traded it in within a couple weeks of getting it back.

It's so sad that you had experienced that problem on your new car but still kept a good attitude. I also like the new Santa Fe and hope i could replace my Grand Santa Fe / XL soon. Hyundai for me is a reliable brand and my current Santa Fe still runs perfectly fine.

Great channel content as usual. I drove this car the other day and the turbo lag was just unacceptable to me. It drove like a very average car but the interior was indeed very spacious.

As I stated in my comment on your first video on this subject, I also had a similar experience with the same engine and transmission on my 2021 Kia Sorrento. It was about 7 business days before I got my car back. I also wanted to state that the Kia dealer where I had the work done was not the same as where I bought the car. So I feel they took good care of me and fixed the car as quickly as they could. As I stated earlier, my problem was juddering in rear gear. I still have the car and like it and I recently bought the KIA Niro Hybrid and really like that car also.

Guys I experienced the same exact level of awesome service from our local Hyundai dealer on one of our two 2022 Tucson Hybrids. They went above and beyond to replace a valve cover with a hairline crack in it. I'm happy they were able to get you guys squared away so quickly. I agree with you too. Defective parts are just part of building new cars. This appears to be a very isolated incident. I appreciate the follow up video. Here's too many thousands of miles of trouble free driving. My understanding is Hyundai has a pretty good process in place to replace their engines and trannies. They have so many replacements on going and as a result have become very good at handling the situation.

Glad it was a fairly painless process. I had to have the transmission rebuilt in my 2017 Honda Accord v6 a couple of years ago - that was a cheaper option than a full replacement since it was out of warranty - and I was without the car for weeks. I notice that your Hyundai store is the older architecture. We have one like that near where I live, but also one that is only a few years old (and for that one, they are breaking out the Genesis store to a separate building on their property). Hyundai has come a long way with their cars, but they really need to accelerate updating those old format stores so they are more competitive with the modern take at Honda and Toyota stores. My nearby Toyota store is really nice, though they nickel-and-dime you to death so I may well not be back, but that is a separate post of its own!

Thank you guys for the update - I am in the buying process and have narrowed down to the new 2024 Santa Fe vs the 2024 CX-50 Meridian - going to test drive both next weekend. I took interest in this story for obvious reasons, so thank you for the update. I guess I don't mind product defects as long as the mfu backs them up and corrects them so hearing that provided some peace of mind.

I've owned a hyundai since 2007, 2007 veracruz limited, santa fe sport turbo, palisade Limited, and tucson Limited. and I have never had one problem !!! All were great vehicles. My favorite was the palisade, most versatile, and luxurious !!!

Well as a Genesis owner I must say Hyundai/Genesis service department is stellar in my opinion. So it's not unusual you brothers got that type of treatment.

This was handled properly. This is how it should always be for Hyundai customers. I bought a new 2018 Elantra that turned out to have all sorts of big issues from the first month of ownership. Engine. Transmission. Suspension. I brought it in 4 times with no resolution on any of the issues. They kept giving the car back to me stating "It's operating as designed" or a similar excuse. So I wrote the dealership a scathing review on Yelp. The next day I got a call from them asking if I'd take my review down if they actually fixed my car. I don't like extortion, but I was desperate to get my car fixed. I brought it in for the 5th time. They replaced the front suspension, reflashed the TCM (transmission control module), and again said the engine losing power and pinging excessively was normal operation. So, I left the review up. I ended up selling the car after 3 years and only 25k miles. It was a shame because I really loved the car otherwise.

The same issue plagued the Ford Focus and Fiesta. Our 2011 Fiesta was in the shop for months. We traded it in while it was up on the hoist. The 2013 Focus that replaced it was even worse. A heavy hit in an accident fixed the Focus by breaking the transmission case and totaling the car. Dual clutch means the power switches from the Right drive wheel to the left drive wheel as it shifts through gears. They also have a tendency to roll back on inclines when at a stop without the brakes applied.

That's good info, but fingers are still crossed for the hybrid version. I hope you guys get to try it on day 1. I trust that powertrain more since the 1.6 is from 2006, and the transmission was designed with more weight in mind.

I have a k5 gt that has the same transmission (dct tranny)as this car. Got the transmission replaced in about two weeks. The dealer matters when it comes to the service. The new transmission has over 20,000 miles on it. Runs like new.

All manufacturers have had mechanical issues at some point. So to say you would buy "xyz" over a Hyundai because of this issue, is a bit much. The very important thing to have with ANY vehicle is a solid warranty. This way you know your covered. I have a 2023 Santa Fe Calligraphy with this same engine/transmission, and so far with 16k miles, no issuse. But if i did, I have piece of mind that i am covered. Glad you guys got your vehicle back and are able to start enjoying it. I am looking forward to your "long-term" reviews on living with this new model. 🎉

Every time I go to hyundai they tell me nothing is wrong and to go screw myself. Then they try to get me to buy a new car to replace my pos. I've has nothing but bad experiences. Worst dealers in the industry. I hate hyundai because of the dealers.

I suspect it was probably more like either an internal issue with the components or some quality control issue in the manufacturing process. Hopefully you won’t have any further issues with the transmission. Still looking forward to getting mine sometime in May.

I have a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe limited 2.5 duct transmission and was having issues with shifting, check engine light did come on. Brought to dealer at around 6300 miles for oil change and service. Picked up vehicle and a few days later , same problem and brought it back. After a few days dealer told me that transmission had to be replaced. The repair took a little about 10 days as the part had to be shipped to them.. after a few calls to corporate, the dealer gave me a loaner.. I have about 8200 miles and have had no issues. Was mostly satisfied with the service provided by the dealer, after getting corporate to give them a nudge. My advice call corporate and express disappointment and they will speak with the dealer to make things right.

I had a 2021 Santa Fe with the same transmission. Some issues from day one, but around 30K it started making a physical "clunk" when putting into gear. Drove it a while longer and thought I'd better take it in to the dealer. New transmission. Dealer had one in stock, but took 10 days to install. Not a priority. Had lots of problems with the car. Moved to a reliable Toyota. Hyundai has a lot going for them, but still not there mechanically. FYI...I owned an Audi Q5 with a DCT, and it was leaps and bounds ahead of the Hyundai.

The reason a DCT shifts so fast is because it has predictive technology to actually queues up the next gear before you even need to shift. So if you are in first gear, second gear is already in place ready to go. Lots of moving parts.. which can cause issues. Makes me nervous considering we just bought a Santa fe XRT. But the warranty seems to be super good clearly.
