Buyer Beware! CM Labs Vortex Advantage product review. While we don't do this often (ok...never have), we just really felt the need to share our own personal experience. This is purely our opinion, but again we wanted to provide this product/company review for any one that may be in the market for construction equipment simulators.
We would not recommend working with CM Labs. If you are in the market feel free to reach out and we can share info about several other simulator companies that you might have interest in.
If you have questions or want more information feel free to reach out to us:

For all the CM Labs employees (whether being directed by your leadership or not) who are commenting and/or disliking our videos now. 1) We are not questioning you believe you make a good product and have plenty of customers who would agree....we are just stating we are not one of them. Instead of getting angry at the messenger maybe focus that energy on trying to keep this from happening again. If you think ANY of this information is false by all means reach out either publicly or in private and we can clarify any of it. 2) Many CM Labs employees have no idea how we were treated by your senior leaders. It was very clear they (well ONE for sure) only cared about the dollar and not about doing what is right. Again, if you want more details feel free to reach out directly and we have no problem sharing more about our experience. 3) Thank you for the extra engagement on our videos, fortunately ANY activity on a video is great for our channel so keep up the dislikes on this. Funny how we had none on this video when the first CM Lab person commented (then they deleted their comment) and now we have 12+ dislikes on the video.

Hello Heavy Metal Learning, I am sorry you had a bad experience with our simulators. I recently started working at CMLabs as a Product Manager and I appreciate any feedback; the good ones and the not so good ones. : ) Thank you for sharing. The good news is that we have changed our SSD supplier and the missing digging lines issue has been fixed. The machine vibration on new soil is a current limitation and is only noticeable on a subset of simulated equipment. We will look at ways to improve it. Thanks again!

We have only done brief demos of their units at trade shows before and they seemed to work great. Also had some good conversations with their leadership. Would definitely give them a shot if we were in the market again.

Thank you for this review. Have these issues been resolved in any manner? A local company is considering a purchase and any advice would help.

Nope...thanks for asking. Not only NOT resolved, the company made zero attempts at even following up since we posted this video. Again, like I stated, there are plenty of satisfied customers so not like it is all bad, just wanted to share our experience. Would be more than willing to speak with anyone directly if they wanted to learn more. Info@heavymetallearning.com

Counter point... I have one unit, I've had a really good experience with CMLabs. They did a massive software update some time last year that really improved... everything. I noticed you were running the older software. I had my hard drives replaced but I didn't have any problems prior. But to be fair I currently have a bad software issue on the dozer sim after another software update. We left the old software on the computer though for a trial period to make sure there were no bugs. So even though I have a problem with the new version... I can run the older version fine while they fix it. But that's strange... I only have the one machine, but I've had a great experience with them. I would agree that the yearly "subscription" sucks. But I only have the one... so it's not really that bad. And when they did the massive update on my machine I kind of saw the purpose of the subscription. So... not trying to be a hater, just wanted to give a counter point. I've faired well with CMLabs.

Thats crazy. I was running equipment and cant now due to health reason so i set up with my wifes computer and a couple screens set of joysticks and farming simulator game. I have about $1,500.00 in everything and i honestly get the same feel as i have on the actual equipment minus the vibrations. I can dig with escavator, loader dumptruck even logging!. I programmed all the joystick functions as they are for each equipment. The simulator game is garunteed from were we bought it and they fix whatever needs to be fixed. Screens and joysticks for waruntee and accident insuramce and all through wallmart. Wifes computer is full warantee.......they even moitor them and advize us of issues if need be. Sorry you had that problem. Thats just sick what they did to you.

@@rurikschutte2188 the simulator game is farming simulator 19 best place to get it is on steam. The joysticks are thrustmaster youtube search fdr logging joystick setup. As far as logging and farming equipment i have ran in real life between the joysticks and the steering wheel and pedals i find that theres alot of reality especialy when you find a mod that was well built. From escavator to processor ext i set the controls the same as a real deal. The only thing i wish i had was real vibration. I have not tryed the crane mods tho. But i have seen alot of different ones. As far as the cable skidder and the mods with a regular winch that i have ran they seem pretty realistic at least for the little i have played with those. I also see some maps out there for cranes to instal towers and beems and bridges but i havnt tryed thos yet

what a horror story. they are even using the unreal engine, one of the best video game engines out there. Given the capabilities of that engine, the simulator looks like crap, let alone behaves quite poorly. But the worse part is their service model.

So far 10 minutes in, you guys have only complained about 3 issues with the company, Pricing, Charging for unnecessary things, and Support. The rest from what I can see you guys are blaming them for either Hardware or Software that they are taking advantage of to create the simulation. The SSD failing isn't really on them however they should have tested the simulator more before shipping it out, as for the bug in the simulator with the lines that's a GPU Rendering error that was fixed roughly 2 weeks after the video was uploaded. I'm not even going to bother watching the rest of the video because I know what you guys will say past this. The Blue screen issue and such really is not an issue that is caused because of their design, it's just the hardware they're using fails. That's common within the Computer world as well as the Heavy Machine world. Nothing is 100% Reliable and sometimes you get a Hitachi and sometimes you get a cat if that makes any sense to you guys. In conclusion, their support and pricing should be better however you guys should be more open-minded toward who's at fault for what as in the video you're fully pushing the blame onto Vortex and not the hardware. Have a blessed day and please understand I'm not hating I'm just trying to make you a little more aware.
@HeavyMetalLearning
@HeavyMetalLearning Жыл бұрын
Appreciate the comment, all decent points but obviously we would disagree. I can only assume you are a past or current employee seeing as you reference when a specific bug was fixed, but I would just say this. This is part of the problem trying to separate hardware from software, which again if you watch the video is exactly what their leadership also tried to do. CM Labs/Vortex IS the hardware from an end customer's perspective. Just because CM Labs doesn't physically make the computer chips doesn't mean they aren't the ones at fault. They certainly are making money/profit off the hardware, so they ARE the hardware provider to the end customer. Any manufacturer should stand behind their product, not blame an individual component/vendor to them. If your brand new Ford truck breaks down in the first year, do you blame the some unknown manufacturer of computer chip that caused the stereo not to work? No, you blame Ford who installed that in your new truck for not having good quality control and then even more upset if they don't fix it (which of course, they would at no charge). And again, CM Labs had multiple opportunities to stand behind their product (both hardware and software) and they did NOT. This is an issue for any consumer, especially of a high end equipment simulator.
