yup, our Pela Lomi Composter broke. We have had it for about 1-2 months so that really didn't take long. SO what happened. Well first off we really do try and follow the rules in regards to what you put in the Lomi so that wasn't it. My guess is that this may be a fairly common problem as the person that I was emailing from Lomi was very quick to send out the needed part with little to no questions as to what was going on. So maybe that's a good thing. Anyways we talk about what went wrong with our Lomi and how we got it fixed. Maybe this is something that is happening to yours!

Thanks for the video. I had the same problem with my Lomi and was surprised the packaging didn’t have any instructions when the fan arrived. This was super helpful.

the cooling issue is a design flaw, no air getting into the fan/fan motor compartment. I removed the fan door, blew it out, used gorilla tape to keep the fan motor in, left the door off and it works perfectly. I will cut air slots into the fan cover and put back on. I saw this as an issue with a lot of commenters on youtube

Thanks for the video. My machine did the same thing recently. I changed out the filters, but to no avail. I watched the easy way you took out the fan, so I decided to see what I could do. When I just took out the fan but did not disconnect it, a piece of the black charcoal came out . I took my hair drier, blew it in the fan chamber, put it back together. Ran an express cycle, and it worked. (for now). This must be a design flaw that Lomi will have to address if so many people are having this problem. Next time, I will just request a new fan. But, thanks again for the instruction.

Neat device... I created one out back with pallets... Mix all our household compost with the grass and leaves. We get a few wheel barrel full of nice soil per year. Thank again for the video's!

Thank you for composting there is so many benefits. With that said did you know you pointing out number one human flaw in your comment, stop thinking about yourself. Devices like these are created for those who don't have the ability to compost or have a compost system provided by city/3rd party that is not functioning to the demands of the people. So think about others before commenting.

Mine is a few days older than one month. It already stopped working. They really should offer a sixty day return. Hopefully, this will be resolved. Thanks for the video

I got mine from the indiegogo campaign and just ran into this. I contacted Pela but decided to do the fix myself in the meantime. Was able to extract the fan, clean it off, and lubricate it with a silicone based spray then ultra blow it with an electric blower. Works like a charm and doesn't require a new fan! Thanks a whole lot

Took our fan out (thanks to your video) cleaned a bit of carbon dust and particles out of it, replaced the fan and the Lomi seems to be running properly again. Thanks!

You can't get a more simple installation than that. Hopefully the new fan lasts for the life of the machine. Nice to see them respond so quickly to a fault they clearly know about.

Read on Reddit that the dust from the carbon pellets causing the fans to stop working. I wonder if rinsing the pellets of dust and letting them air dry before loading up the camber would help the fan from collecting carbon dust. For what this machine costs,it shouldn’t have any problems but there is many from what I have read.

Your problem sounds like mine. Have had machine for 1 year - arrived in March 2022. Would make weird grinding squeaky noise, stop and flash red light. Contacted LOMI and they suggested resetting by holding button in 10 secs. Run another load. Will video this part. Also see that suggestion to wash the charcoal. Just changed the charcoal so maybe the charcoal batch was extra dusty? Will post again if either of these works. Otherwise, hope LOMI is as responsive with a new fan. We love it when working!

Ours just stopped working as well. The right went on on tope of the cooling button.. I am just waiting for their reply to my email .. Hopefully , they will resolve the issue ! Thanks for the video 🙌

An you explain how to clean a grinder that has heavy sedimentation ? There are 4 bolts holding an “L” shaped bracket inside the bucket. Can this bracket be removed in order to clean the clearing in forms when installed because this is where the compost has almost stuck like a rock?

It is… but we were just putting food scraps in the trash and not composting them. So it cut the garbage stench to nothing… cuts the weekly trash by 1/3… and makes a little useful dirt. I’m def not trying to save the planet 😂

Mine broke after 2 cycles. The service person wanted a full description plus a video plus the order number. Then sent the fan with zero instructions. Obviously an ongoing issue with the fan. Good idea but not a dependable product and HORRIBLE customer service.

I just got mine in June 2022, (it took quite a while to get it) used it once, on the longest cycle, the dirt was great, only used veggies and fruits, nothing else. Next day had more to put in but... it didn't work. !!!! A red flashing light came on along with beeping, and checked the machine and nothing was in there or stuck in the blades. There is no phone number to call for help just have to go through the EM process..! Very disapointing... ...my sisters were going to get one...but now not sure its worth it.

Looks like the thing takes up a lot of counter space at the cost of over $500. A new costly gadget is what it is that breaks down within weeks with ongoing costs to operate.

Mine gets stuck and I can’t clean under the blade. Any suggestions besides working with it soaking it all day using ever Spatula I have in the kitchen or any other kind of tool to try to figure out how to scrape the dirt out from under the blade what do we do about this. The bottom of my bowl is completely scratched up I’ve had mine several months use it every night

Ours does this all the time. I finally tried removing the blades by unscrewing the bolt on the bottom (4 mm hex). Be careful and pay attention to the half a dozen or so washers. Some are on the inside, some on the outside. Then we use a plastic stick or wooden popsicle sticks to pry the "compost" off the sides. The plastic and wood don't scratch like metal tools will.

Do you know what to do about the blades being stuck? They won’t turn, I used the machine and then forgot about the compost dirt for 3 days and when I went to empty it, the compost glued the blades

Hey Greg. Just wanted to point out that I had no idea what a Pela Lomi was. If you could have briefly described its purpose at the beginning I wouldn't have spent the first part of the video wondering what the heck it was!😛 (My guess was an air fryer😀) Just a thought! Mine also didn’t worked after 6times Grow mode. Now I replaced new fan they sent me, I only used 2times fast mode. Hopefully it will works for a long time.

I'm happy if the consumer can easily repair. I don't want to package up, pay the postage, send it to Canada, and wait for it to come back. If I can fix in 10 min, cool!

A strange failure. Unless the new fan has different specs from the old one, I'm afraid this failure reoccurs eventually.

my guess would be that if its a reoccurring issue that the fan would be a new updated version. So far ours has been working well since we replaced the fan with the new one.

@@cassmichelle8004 All the key components are there. Heated chamber, motor that turns a blade. But you can’t set a bread maker to run all night. You’ll have to start it up a couple of times.
