Do yourself a favor and watch this entire concert. Gabriel sings from inside a giant plastic ball, then he sings upside down while walking in a circle, he rides a bicycle around the stage, sits in a boat that travels while the stage revolves, sings while operating a camera for a multimedia version of the Barry Williams Show. Best concert ever!

Awesome choice for reaction! Arguably Peter's best concert was his SECRET WORLD TOUR in 1992--1993 for the album "US." The production was acclaimed for being conceptually and technologically unique in its day. I was fortunate enough to see the tail end of it with my parents in London, and its the best live music experience I've ever had as a concert goer, just the energy of it alone. But that might also be bias on my part as I'm a huge PG fan 😃

Loved it. Brought back memories of seeing that tour. For the song Growing Up he got in a big bubble ball and walked around the stage inside the ball around the circlular stage and later went out into the crowd in the bubble. It Reminded me of when Peter used to crowd surf during the song Lay Your Hands on Me, which was amazing. You definitely need to see Lay your hands on me live, along with San Jacinto and Biko!

Oh Cool! About seeing Snarky Puppy with Steely Dan. Although I really don't think that you would have been disappointed with Steve Winwood (He's had a long, illustrious career starting out with The Spencer Davis Group at the age of 15, then moving on to Blind Faith, Traffic, and then a very fruitful solo career. You actually may be aware of some of his music without knowing it.

Tony Levin has been Peter's bassist for his entire solo career and tours. Robert Fripp performed on Gabriel's first three solo albums. Through this connection, Tony Levin would become the King Crimson bassist for the 80s lineup to present.

Nick & Lex: Thank you for this and that stage you just saw was even more impressive than this one video shows. Peter is always creating and inventing new audio and visual experiences that can be at times (especially his early solo work) very challenging to listen to but as a fan you always appreciate in one way or another and in retrospect come to love. What he was doing in the late 70's early 80's was ground breaking and way ahead of it's time. When Peter hit it big people were saying that he caught up to conventional music but I think music caught up to him. Both of you WILL be PG fans after the initial jolt of "odd creativity" at times. Even if there are songs you don't particularly like you (as inevitable fans) will appreciate the chances he takes. Quick example of this is on his first 2 records Peter did not want any symbols on either of the records, he felt the symbols took away the listeners attention, he was right. Those first 2 albums require real attention, not that they are complex compositions but because they are...well somewhat different. Today they aren't as odd sounding but back then they certainly were and PG fans reveled in them including myself. PLEASE take the PG journey, your music appreciation will be forever expanded. As always keep up the great work and keep loving eachother!

Yes used to have a circular rotating stage in their live shows. I'm surprised more bands haven't used that. It gives everyone in the audience a good view of the band. Maybe it was the expense or logistics of transporting it. Still it made an awesome spectacle.

ok sorry for this addition to a previous lengthy comment but I have to add a few things. First of all you need to watch either ALL of his "Secret World" concert video which is solemn, completely joyous and brilliant from start to finish both visually and musically. Want to see an entire band join in dancing and just having fun this is the complete package. I guarantee it will among your favorite concert films you've ever watched. If you can't watch the entire concert I STRONGLY suggest (Michele Michele please back me up on this you have clout here lol) "In Your Eyes " from that concert. I saw him on this tour and you just don't forget that experience. It's hard to explain but you NEED to see it. Now about Steve Winwood who you mentioned dropped out of the Steely Dan tour he is rock royalty. At age 16 he was a child wonderkid. At age 15 he was in one of the most popular groups of the 60's called The Spencer Davis Group on keyboards and vocals and ohhh those vocals!!! I just love his voice, it's soothing, soulful and powerful. They are best known for the song "Gimme Some Lovin" which you've definitely hear somewhere in your life . He then went on to form the first super group called Blind Faith with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker (drummer for the band Cream which broke up prior to Blind Faith) After that gig Steve formed the band Traffic who were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2004. Traffic is one of my favorite bands. Traffic has so many great songs it's hard to recommend one so maybe start with "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys", talk about a song to close your eyes and get lost in...geez. From that one song you'll see why they were so great. Finally Steve went on to have a huge solo career in the 80's with well crafted pop hits that if you heard them you might know. OK thats it, sorry for the extended text but I know the both of you are interested in the background of musicians and groups so I felt this was worth while and you'd appreciate it.

Ron, I enjoy your comments and agree with all of it. Peter has done incredible versions of that song and others (for example Biko with Mandela). Plus, I’ve loved Winwood from his young beginnings (from Spencer Davis on) Then, of course, everyone played Traffic repeatedly (Low Spark, Dear Mr Fantasy and John Barleycorn). I got to see him during his later soulful pop solo work (“Higher Love” period - 1986) and I even owned his 1980 LP “Arc of a Diver.” Thanks. I almost requested him a couple times. What a catalog for both these artists! Cheers, my Friend! ✨🤪

@@michelemichele3375 I think John Barleycorn Must Die is my favorite of theirs. That record for me is great from start to finish and covers many musical styles, just wonderful. There isn't a bad song on the album. And Arc of a Diver is among my favorite Winwood solo efforts of his including the tittle track.

Peter Gabriel founded WOMAD in 1980. WOMAD (the World of Music and Dance) name has reflected the festival’s idea; to be embracing but non-definitive, inspiring and outward looking; and more than anything, enthusiastic about a world that has no boundaries in its ability to communicate through music and movement. Peter is an active Humanitarian and supporter of Artists Against Apartheid Project, Amnesty International and Human Rights😇😯❤

Peter Gabriel with Tony Levin, Bill Bruford with guest duet with Sinead O'Connor (!) . Opening for Peter was a new guy named Lenny Kravitz (!!) and the all-day show included, James, Jah Wobble, Crowded House (!!!!) and too many others to remember. There are not too many bands that I have seen live more than three times. Peter Gabriel, Supertramp, B.T.O., Genesis. If you want a truly aural experience, you should see Peter at least once. It is like putting on a record. His attention to sound and detail is surpassed by no one. My top five bands of all time. 1. Jethro Tull, 2. Kansas, 3. Peter Gabriel, 4. Rush, 5. The Strawbs. The top 3 are interchangeable for me. Love that you showed the live version. Thank you so much. Peter may not have the most expansive library, but everything is so damn amazing.

The first time I saw “concert in the round” was back in 1978 when it was utilized by Yes. I thought it ingenious. The entire stage rotated, so no matter where you sat, you would see each of the performers as they slowly passed. In my opinion, it’s the way all concert stages should be. Regardless of what you paid for your ticket, you had the same views as everyone else. It favors no one and yet everyone. It gives a sense of balance and equality which, in turn, gives a sense of togetherness among the audience. All were there to see musicians they loved, and all had the same view. An simple idea, rarely utilized. And I’ve walked this good Earth long enough to realize that it’s the simple ideas that prove the most brilliant.

The whole Growing Up tour was spectacular it is worth seeing any song from there, but highlights are Solsbury Hill, Growing Up (Peter sings from inside a zorb ball), Downside Up, Red Rain and Here Comes The Flood they whole idea of the round stage in the centre of the audience with the road crew underneath the stage was stunning, and I think they are all on KZfaq. I was lucky enough to be at one of the gigs and it is still one of the best I have ever seen. The gig I went to ended with Biko and there was not a dry eye in the house.

I had the great privilege of seeing 'Still Growing up' in Gateshead UK - I've seen many groups since, not one is as good as this - the centre stage, the production, the fact that I could buy a double album of the night I was at - no one else does it like Gabriel. You really need to see more from this concert (e.g. Growing up, downside up) if you think the use of the centre stage was clever here it's got nothing on those tracks - quite literally will blow your mind. I didn't think they'd be able to do it in the venue I was at as it was only 7000 seat venue, but they did - night of my life...

( ((( (((( (( ( 😄 ) )) )))) ))) ) Bea-U-ti-FUL!!! Tony Levin remember, right from Peter Gabriel, jumped to King Crimson for the album "Discipline" (1981) which you now have (and the following albums :), all the way to "Thrak" (1995) which was his last. Yes "90215" & "Union" Tours also were in the _round_ and both were excellent concerts, that one day you'll need to see after you do more of their "classic" era. - Peter always brings on the Feelies :D.

If you are interested in hearing some Steve Winwood just to hear what you missed, I'd recommend the following: Spencer Davis Group - Gimme Some Lovin' (1966) Spencer Davis Group - I'm a Man (1967) Blind Faith - Can't Find My Way Home (1969) Traffic - Low Spark of High Healed Boys (1971) Steve Winwood had some big pop hits in the 1980s, but these songs from the early 1970s are all absolute classics. He was the lead singer on all of them, and the last two especially are just epic. He likely would have played some or all of these songs during his concert, had he been able to perform.

Nick and Lex, so glad you reacted to this. I have my personal list of my 10 favorite artists (The Beatles are on that list), but the two artists that get through the surface and into my soul are Peter Gabriel and Pat Metheny. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you react to "Downside Up" from this same show. One of the greatest audio and visual performances you'll ever hear and see.

You guys should definitely treat yourself to a viewing of "in Your Eyes" from his Secret World show, which was done several years earlier than this one, and (added bonus) featured a young Paula Cole, fresh off the steps of Burklee College of Music. Basically, her first touring gig and it was with Peter Gabriel.

Stunning! Also worth listening to Peter Gabriel’s version of the Arcade Fire track MY BODY IS A CAGE … STUNNING! Tony Levin also plays with King Crimson. Steve Winwood was with an amazing band called Traffic then in an Eric Clapton supergroup BLIND FAITH and in the eighties solo. The man is a master with a wonderful soulful voice - pretty nifty keyboard player. He and Clapton still appear together occasionally. Check out Peters NEW BLOOD live album with a massive orchestra.

Hi NicknLex, so much more for you to listen to in PG'S solo work as well as Genesis. The man is a genius and his work is so diverse. San Jacinto, And through the Wire, Digging in the Dirt, Mercy Street and so many more to explore. You will enjoy the journey i am sure.

This whole concert is really amazing, but the best video from this one, by far, is "Downside Up". It's not necessarily the best song, but as a live performance, you must see it.

TRy to find his live early 80's version of 'Solsbury Hill' not sure where but it was one of his European concerts, still my favourite song from Peter although he has plenty of great songs.

The median age of the performers involved in this production looks to be well over 40. Respect for the elders has fallen out of style in the U.S. but this concert proves the point magnificently.
