Wow. You grow that much food with a small normal sized greenhouse. I’m extremely impressed. I thought you probably had a huge high tunnel sized green house. There’s hope for me yet.

You can grow a ton of transplants in a 10'x16' greenhouse. More than enough to supply my 1/4 acre garden and Greg's 1/4 acre garden and still have plenty to give away.

I want to thank you for teaching me how to grow onions from seed. Im following along with your adventure and learning something with each video. On 9/11, I started seven varieties that id purchased the last few years. Greg getting on you back in August got me thinking i should give it a try this year. Three of the varieties were purchased from Hoss Tool, and they’ve had excellent germination. I truly appreciate that you send good viable seed. Ive had my share of dud packets from other suppliers.

JUst got my Hoss tools onions seeds yesterday. Thanks for this right on the spot video. Now I'm just trying to figure out when I should sow. I live in south Louisiana and we are still having 90 degree F plus days. Around 70's at night. It is September the 4. I'm going to check with the almanac to see when the 75 degree days start. My first frost date is Nov 10. Should I go ahead and sow the cougar onion seeds I got from you guys now, or wait for cooler weather. I'm starting the seedlings under grow lights in my barn. Thanks. Love your show. Mike

Okay the first (there’s more) understanding from your walkthrough is that once the seedling freely releases from the cell you next plant directly into the ground - not potting up to next side (or 2) of pot ... then to ground. Is that correct, what did i miss? Thank you. Lynette

Have you ever tracked the temperatures in your greenhouse during the fall seedling period? If not, would you take a guess on the high temps. Even with the sides rolled up, I would expect it to be really hot for fall crops.
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 3 жыл бұрын
With the sides rolled up, it's probably 5-10 degrees hotter than outside. The only crop where we have to be careful is lettuce. Some lettuce varieties don't like warm soils for germination. So we have to wait til it cools a little to get those started.

Can fish fertilizer be used on transplants overhead?
@gardeningwithhoss
@gardeningwithhoss 3 жыл бұрын
It could, but it wouldn't be very effective because it takes a little while for the organic components to be broken into smaller molecules for the plants to absorb it. Also, most seed starting mixes are sterile, so there's no "biology" present to help break down those organic molecules. That's why we recommend using a light dose 20-20-20 on seedlings.
