In this video I tell our story about how we wound up living in Tennessee. Its been a long time since I have uploaded a regular video and we plan on doing lots more. We no longer have a woodworking specific business and this channel will focus mostly on our family and the development of our homestead in Tennessee.

An interesting story. You sure got a nice place there and you seem to be very well set up with equipment, etc. It's so nice that you're able to do this journey while you're still young and have small kids at home. That'll be such an amazing place for them to grow up. When we bought our acreage all our kids were already grown and were off on lives of their own, so they never got to grow up like that. All them said the same thing when they first saw the place; "Why didn't we have a place like this when we were kids?"

Hey Mike found your video and glad I did. My wife Kelly and I are looking to relocate to Tennessee ,East specifically. We are heading down in a few weeks to explore. we are from Taxachusetts(Boston), looked in New Hampshire for a year cant find what we want, and unfortunately New Hampshire is changing, becoming less and less the Live Free or Die state. Your video gives me great Hope. May I ask what town you are in? Thanks I'll keep watching

Yeah, unfortunately NH is changing. It's sad. I'm actually originally from the Boston area myself. I love NH, but sadly it's changed. We are in Greene County and love it. Climate, people, policies, schools, etc. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask.

Ahhh, ok.. I see. Well, I have had alot of the same dreams, but haven't been able to do anything with them yet. I was looking at sawmills in 2020 lol, and they were over a year backorderd😕😔. So, I decided to build my own. Can't really get started on THAT project till I can live at the new property. Our land was part of (we hear) an over 1,000 acre timber pine forest years ago. It was timbered last in 2007, so all our main amounts of trees are just about 16 years old again. This doesn't count our ravine... THOSE trees were never logged it seems. 80 to 120 foot tall black gum trees abound in the creek, along with massive pines stuck in down there. We got a tax estimate about our timber... they value our trees at 165 thousand dollars worth of extractable lumber/wood products, we are taxed on that amount... BUT... this land already has a Timber Exemption on it so the actual taxes for this year for 40 acres.. .. was 43 dollars 💪😎. I WANT TO SAW WOOD!! 🤣😁 I'll have it, too... just gotta build that sawmill!!

@@practicallyIndependent I've been a machinist before, and I got certified as stick welder... like, in 2001 🤣. Never had a job welding but I know how!! 😁 so I feel like I can create an accurate sawmill. Then, I read on a comment on one of your Shorts (about inflation) that you were in the I.T. industry in some capacity .. that's my CURRENT job skill lol!! I'm an infrastructure guy, I support EVERYTHING in th enterprise... AD accounts: onboarding/offboarding/account creation, modification and all that. On-prem AD or Azure or hybrid. Cisco Meraki certified Network Operator cert(a "CMNO", but it's not common), I program,order, maintain, install or take away any printer, including battery operated mobile printers, label printers, warehouse mobile computers (windows in the past, mostly Andrid these days) and ALL THAT JAZZ lol.... I've been the only I.T. guy in a brand new half million Sq ft warehouse, brand new location, and I built an installed all 45 shipping station computers, printers, and networking, I as the ONLY guy for the whole facilities I.T. needs. Now, I want to weld up a sawmill and live in the woods with my Starlink and do a B.S. remote I.T. support contract job for money.🤣😎.. I'm tired of the industry too

I'm wondering if you'd be so kind to share your realtor's info who helped you purchased this property. I'm thinking of moving to TN also, but I don't need that size of acreage like yours. Five to 10 acres would be plenty for us.

Just wondering will your land perk for well and septic? Its my understanding that if these test are not performed or the land wont perk then you cannot build a home on it
@practicallyIndependent
@practicallyIndependent 5 ай бұрын
Depends on the county. Here if you have more than so many acres they do not require a perk test. We are exempt from it due to having 30 acres. The reason we bought this property is we are exempt from most inspections, tests, and permitting due to the location and zoning.

I do, but sold it recently. Now I rent one when I need it for a job. Maintenance was costly and can't afford a newer machine. The rentals are nice since they are well maintained and ready to go when I need one.
