Our Tips to working with Solid Brass and Copper Rivets

Setting solid copper or brass rivets can be challenging at first. Hopefully this video will point you in the proper direction of tool choice, and the basics of working with these rivets.

Great video , thanks . FYI copper can be antiqued / blackened some by using a solution of liver of sulfur and water .

Great video! What it is that makes the Douglas tools an upgrade compared to the starter Weaver tool?

nobdow316 They’re much more refined with attention to every detail. In a way that helps with the finished look of your project. It’s common to have strike marks left behind with some of the standard tools, whereas these will not do that. Also, one of the tools will give you the option to dome the flat side of the rivet, adding a nice finished detail.

Can you use a brass burr with copper rivets? I'm trying to duplicate a WW2 GI leather item that appears to have brass burrs w/ copper rivets.

John, yes. We often times have some fun with mixing rivets/burrs whenever doing one off projects, which generally results in other customers seeing how unique it patinas. Best of luck!

Are the black rivets tubular or the same as the copper and brass #9’s. I haven’t been able to find black ones.

I got a big batch of Tandy brass rivets that the washers were bored far to small , talk about a pain .

They are not too small lol. That is how they are supposed to be dummy. You have to set the washers with the rivet setting tool, then cut the excess and peen over. Did you even watch the video?
