The Traditional Latin Mass is not something we have spoken about very much in past episodes. Perhaps it has taken us a long time to process our experience since first attending? But today we give a deep dive into our 1st experience of the Latin Mass, and all that resulted after our first experience of the TLM.
Our hope is that you are encouraged in your Catholic faith from us sharing our experience of the Traditional Latin Mass, and your love for the Eucharistic and the Holy Sacrifice of the mass increases! It seems this topic has become a divisive one in the Catholic Church recently. Lines seem to be drawn between the traditional latin mass vs novus ordo. We believe our experience is a good new story. And hope you feel the same. Our challenge to our viewers at the end of this is, if you have never attended the Latin mass before… check it out!

In 2018 my wife was sick with the flu so she stayed home from Mass. I decided last minute to go to the TLM about 30 minutes from our house. It blew me away. I was on the parish council at my NO parish, I ran the children's liturgy, was an usher and in the KofC and my wife was a lector and EM; but after one time at the TLM I wanted to switch. My wife didn't even want to try it. A few months later my birthday and father's day were 4 weeks apart and I said all I want for both is to go to the TLM for those 4 weeks. After that 4 week stint in the TLM my wife was hooked and my kids loved it. We resigned our positions at the NO parish and haven't been back since. 2 of my kids have never known the NO and one can barely remember it. I do feel robbed of the TLM. Why did I not have this growing up. I learned more from the TLM in 6 months than I did in 8 years of Catholic school. I believe if I was raised in the TLM I wouldn't be the only one of my siblings still practicing the faith.

We began attending the Latin Mass when the churches reopened after Covid. This was due to being discouraged from receiving on the tongue at our NO parish. The Latin Mass has changed our lives, as a mother of 5 with an agnostic husband, this is what our children need. It feeds them in a way that I can not. It provides so much devotion and reverence. Thank y’all for sharing your experience, mine was very similar. I was lost at Mass but began learning quickly when we were given the opportunity to attend daily Mass. Those Low Masses changed everything, our boys learned all the responses to the Mass as did I. All of my children enjoy the Mass, and the community is wonderful.

I too recently started going to Latin Mass on some week days, first Fridays and first Saturdays.... The first experience of the Latin Mass filled me with so much grace that I burst into tears. I didn't understand most of it, however, I was in awe with the members reverence towards the Mass, their humbleness in their clothing, women with veil, their silence, and above all their focus towards Jesus alone... I felt so much at peace.... I love Latin Mass.... I hope the same reverence and the other goodnesses spread to the Novus Ordo Mass too....especially when receiving the Blessed Sacrament...kneeling and receiving Jesus on the tongue with joined hands.

I was raised with the Latin Mass and all I remember was the communion. I would kneel at the alter and receive the host. I remember having the missal at every mass of course it was all in Latin and I used that until the Pope came out and changed the liturgy into the language of the people in whose. country. the mass would be celebrated. I kept that missal for over thirty years and now I am trying to find it again. Thank you for your sharing of your love for TLM. 😊Hope

We went to our first TLM in September 2020 thanks to Dr. Taylor Marshall mentioning it in one of his videos. We instantly fell in love with it! We began going full time when Motu Propio came out. We have never been so devoted as a family as we are now. We pray the Rosary every day, we bless before meals, we read the Bible and we homeschool and are open to life (currently expecting out 6th child). TLM has radically changed our spiritual life and faith. We are so grateful to the Lord that we have an FSSP Parish only 30 mins away. It has been an incredible gift! Plus, our children have learned to sit still, be quiet and pay attention. The reverence that is shown by all, especially the young children have helped our children also understand the importance of being reverent and truly believing in the real Presence. Praise God for this beautiful liturgy! Thank you for sharing your experience, Yasinskis! God bless you.

I do want to go to a Latin Mass. we live very rural and it’s 1 1/2 hours to the closest Latin Mass. the Kneeling for communion, the quietness and reflection when you walk into the church, the music, I can almost feel the Holy Spirit just talking about it! 🙏

During Covid, my parish closed the doors and I was so lucky to have found the TLM. Upon entering, I knew I was home. The altar was ready for the Mass and it took me back to when I was a child, I had forgotten how special it was. As soon as the Mass started with the sacred music, I was in heaven! There is no words to describe how holy and beautiful this experience is! You just have to go and see for yourself! If I have to attend the N.O. Mass now it's painful. I feel like I am in a classroom, or a meeting.

Thank you for sharing your feedback and your responses of your experiences. I am 75 years old and obviously grew up in the culture of the Latin Liturgy. I have not experienced it since after Vatican II. In the last couple of years at our parish, I have seen semblances (occasional latin music, people kneeling for Communion), adding more flavor and reverence to the Mass. As a child and former alter boy it was difficult to understand Latin, analogous to hearing someone speaking a foreign language. My mind would wander. As an older adult, I find it refreshing and have a greater appreciation of the Mass. I think that long standing traditions enhance and help us to connect to our very rich Catholic culture. To use an old fashion adage, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water".

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I have been blessed to be able to participate in the sacrifice of the mass at a Latin mass on occasions with my son and daughter in law. I am almost 76 and grew up with the Latin mass. As a young person who attended mass with my Latin/English Missal I had the best of both worlds. I initially was happy with the new English ( novus ordo) mass thinking there would be more participation which was the case. However over the years I have witnessed the watering down of the liturgy...shorter prayers of consecration, mostly cutie homilies or ones that drone on so long you loose the train of thought and I can hardly address the irreverent reception of our Lord in the Eucharist. The music....I won't even call it liturgical in some cases. Lastly my son who discovered the Latin mass on his own in his 50's is thinking that the Church betrayed young people in the loss of rich and fervent prayers of the old rite.

I started going to a church with Latin mass since fall. It brought me back to my childhood. My experience was similar to yours. I go to the mass that is a a reflection of the Latin mass. It is for the most part still Latin. I still haven't found a community being retired. Once daylight is longer, I hope to start attending a women's group.

I was raised primarily in the Novus Ordo, so it became the norm for me. However, I got to attend a Latin Mass to pray for a friend who had passed away. The people were very reverent. However, I felt much more like I was there to observe rather than there to participate. I guess if I was raised in the Latin mass, I would understand the language, be able to pray along, and subsequently appreciate it more. Thanks to you two, and everything you do.

Yes! I'm a convert to TLM too. I love to ponder how this was the Mass that sanctified centuries of saints in the Church. . . St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Therese of Liseux, St. Maximilian Kolbe . . . the list goes on. This mass is the long-standing tradition of the Church. The very rubrics of the Mass demand a reverence. . . all the nods and genuflections. All these things that struck you-absolutely struck me too-the reverence and the ABSOLUTE focus on Jesus. Now, when I go to NO-I'm taken aback by everyone's casualness and the lack of focus on Christ. I definitely prefer the TLM--I wish to attend a regular Mass with my children-one that gives the ultimate glory to God.

We are a "feel good people" and I think that is the reason so many people are leaving the church and going elsewhere regardless of TLM or NO. If we are not entertained, we dont want to be there. I have experienced both as an adult. We went once a week (as that was only offered) to Mass in Latin. We were a homeschooling family as well. The priest offered to teach Latin to the children after Mass. It was the Mass and the class they looked forward to every week. Latin is not just for Mass, students excell in English by learning Latin. Expose your children to the Latin Mass even if its once a month it will be good for them.

I am challenged when it comes to reaching out to connect with people. I have also attended a formerly Anglican Church turned Roman Catholic I loved it. But I am attending a regular mass, I feel like I need to grow there and support this church at this time. Yes I miss the reverence the quiet… Grow where I am planted is what I am hearing.

Once while visiting Tennessee, I went to Sunday Mass at the Church next to the hotel. It was a Novus Ordo Mass but it had traditional Latin Mass elements. There was a communion rail, the priest celebrated ad orientum and the music was traditional. I really liked it! I also attended a weekday Latin Mass (not in Tennessee) a couple years ago and I was completely lost, there was no music, the priest and altar servers celebrated the Mass in the sanctuary and it was as if those in the pews were not even there, except for a brief homily and receiving communion. That was an experience I was not used to. Thanks for sharing yours!

Thank you both for sharing your experience with the Traditional Latin Mass. I go as much as I can on Sundays and it's been a huge blessing in my life and it strengthens my relationship with Christ. I agree that even if one doesn't go often to the Latin Mass it's good to at least experience it at some point in your life. It will enrich your spirituality and the way you live the Novus Ordo Mass.

I started attending TLM when I was in 4th grade and now I'm in my 30s. At first, I remembered that I did not like it as I can't understand anything and it was not the mass that I grew up learning. So during my teenage years, I went back to the nearest church with Novus Ordo Masses. Thankfully, my parents kept asking me and my siblings to attend TLM every sunday as a family (I think I was already in college at this time). Since then, I've realized how beautiful this mass is and amazed that this worship was also the same as those that were attended by so many saints! I now sing sacred music with the choir. There is this spiritual attachment I got from this mass probably because it helped me grow this love for the Holy Eucharist. This TLM community was brought together by the same priest when I was young. So whenever he gets reassigned to another church within the diocese, the community transfers as well. Very thankful for the same priest as he celebrated my betrothal and wedding in TLM.

Very nourishing video. Thanks. Must share that my stepdaughter and I went to a Christmas Eve mass at a new church because her and her family had relocated. When we arrived the church looked like a small house. We went in. So in this case my stepdaughter attended a Latin mass accidentally. A rosary was said before mass. She was asking me what was going on. I had my mom’s St. Joseph daily missal so could show her the Latin and English version. God is so good. WAs definitely a gift from God that was totally unexpected.

This is excellent. I am a Catholic priest from Tucson. Your thoughts resonate with my own. I am convinced that, as Pope Benedict emphasized in his magisterium, both forms of the Roman rite can mutually enrich each other. Indeed combining the old and the new is what Christ Jesus says in the Gospel According to St Matthew. That is what I seek to do when I celebrate the Novus Ordo. If communion rails were once again placed in our churches and communion while kneeling were not forbidden or highly discouraged by many bishops, the church would quickly heal and the tepidity of many would become a fervor for things Holy. The traditional Latin has made me love the holy mass more deeply; and thereby understand the mystery of my priesthood; what Christ expects of me. Thank for what you are doing; your wholesome and balanced presentation. May God bless both of you and your children!-- Fr Gonzales

I think I went to a Latin funeral once, which was beautiful. I think it is helpful to have the added outward signs of reverence however I think if I take time before Mass to meditate on the scriptures and remember as I enter the church that Christ is present, I am still able to have a beautiful connection with God, even at my regular, low budget, office casual, 8 am Mass, where people can barely even sing yet because it’s early and not a big crowd. But I loved this video and you guys being so honest and open as always and I do want to see if I can find a Latin Mass around my area just to experience it, as you say 💚 God bless you guys and your family

I don’t attend it every Sunday but I do on occasion attend the Latin Mass. I like you love the reverence and now dress with reverence which ever mass I attend. The parish my family attends has a Latin mass. Although we think is beautiful we are blessed to have a very revenant NO mass. Unfortunately, I have been turned off by some of the comments of the TLM community. A lot of the same reasons, though you both experienced the timing of mass. Our music at our parish is Devine. The Latin mass parents have been added to our parish along with chant music at times. Our parish priest can do both the Latin mass and the NO. Again, we are so blessed.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful experience with the Latin Mass. Yes, I have attended the Latin Mass. I started attending during the covid when most churches were still closed and - I had listened to one of Taylor Marshall’s talks on the Latin Mass. I had just started receiving our Lord on the tongue and almost all parishes refused to administer communion on the tongue during covid…so I started attending Latin Mass- 3pm into it I could not handle the NO Mass and the irreverence which were extreme in some cases…the chatter in church before/after Mass and immodest dress in many cases!!! I thank God for the reverence and modest dress I found at Latin Mass… I had to make some changes to my dress too…I’m deeply grateful to our Lord for leading me to a deeper appreciation of the Mass through the Traditional Latin Mass. If I can’t attend the Latin Mass, I will reluctantly attend the N.O, but will not receive our Lord, if i cannot receive Him kneeling and on the tongue…out of respect and reverence of our Lord 🙏🏽

I just want to thank you both for being such a lovely example. This rhythm you spoke about in the video shows through and there’s a lovely balance I sense in the way you live your faith. My family attends TLM & have done so since lockdowns. It was mostly due to our priest suddenly stepping down at our former parish coinciding with me finding a homeschool community that was based out of our FSSP parish. We slowly fell in love with it all. Over these last few years, my staunchly Protestant husband became Catholic and loved being catechized personally by our priest. I don’t think I can accurately summarize how much our family has changed-but it has really changed us to be in community with people who are so serious about their faith. We’re so very grateful. Thank you for sharing your experience! God bless your home & family!

The people were very reverent and I did wonder - where do these people come from??? Because I don’t meet them in my everyday life. I LOVE your reflections ... Thank you. I am a member of and attend an FSSP parish for the liturgy and the reverence on Sundays and for others masses too. It's a bit of a drive I also attend Novus Ordo during the week and sometimes on Sundays too ..if I'm not feeling well etc ... After Covid, I am grateful to attend a mass ... It's so easy to take things for granted so in my daily prayers I ask to always have access to priests and sacraments. I am very grateful there is a parish near me who only have priests distributing our Lord at the altar rail. I agree with Ken about "issues" no matter where you attend and that is just part of all aspects of life , isn't it ? I can ignore the Novus Ordo back slapping or feeling like there is an MC in the house when I need to .... I can avoid certain people who seem to act like they are more disposed to Jansenism .... and Thank Jesus for the opportunity to have liberal access to Him ....such an amazing gift we can't really understand until we enter His eternity. God bless you and your family

I was 12 when V2 changed everything in the Mass. I miss the TLM. I live in a very big city and I believe there's just one church out of a dozen or more that has a TLM and it's about an hour away. Someday I hope to go. The Holy Spirit has been working on me. I wanted my husband to feel the difference but sadly he passed before we had a chance to go together. This was a good discussion on TLM. I recieve on my tongue by the priest or Deacon only even before it was expected to at a particular EM only. I tend to buck the system...God bless you and your family always. 🙏🏼💖😇🙏🏼

We are blessed to be at a Latin Mass that has three masses on Sunday. It’s harder for my husband also but he does it for me and my son. He sees how much better it is for our souls. He said he just don’t think that in our old parish that they really believed that Jesus was really in the Eucharist. We’ve been at out parish for three years now and I haven experienced the ridged and critical people that you have. Only mercy and understanding. I think because we were are in the same boat together.

It was the Latin Mass that inspired me to learn to pray the Rosary in Latin and I love that 1. Latin is one of the the Holy languages that was affixed to the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ, therefore it has great power against evil for that reason. 2. Latin is the universal language of the Church. Imagine if everyone KNEW the language, then it wouldn't be so daunting and mystifying. It would be the language that UNITES us, no matter what country we are from we would understand what was being said at the most important event on earth! I had been to a Latin Mass and I do love the reverence, the Ad Orientum stance of the priest, and the sacred music as well. We belong to a parish that is just right down the street from us and my husband prefers to stay, so I remain at our Novus Ordo parish in union with him. I love praying my Rosary in Latin though, it's beautiful and meditation is easier for me. Frankly I am just happy I was able to learn it at this stage in my life!😊💗🙏

My reasons for attending are identical. I LOVE the focus and reverence. It is a community as well, because it is the only church in a 50 mile radius that offers Latin Mass, and the only one that is weekly. However, sacramental prep, faith formation and form are still mandated to be in the NO. I also have been to a few TLM in areas that we've lived and have experienced the rigid judgemental mentality... but the Latin Mass is beautiful regardless of the congregation present... that's the best part to me. That being said, we are supporting members of a vibrant, thriving, family-friendly NO Parish that has a reverent NO Mass. I attend Mass at both because the NO is what I was born and baptized into, but again, love the Latin Mass.

I did attend a Latin mass in Massachusetts on Jan/22 with my sister in law and my 2 girls. I have to say the respect and the reverence was impeccable. I loved how the ladies and children wore their veils and how quiet everyone was…..I love that! I do have to agree with you Ken, even though you understand what’s going on, I felt a bit lost. It was a High Mass over Low Mass. I started feeling anxious b/c my disabled son stayed home with family. Mass started early and it would take me awhile to get him ready. It was a nice experience though!

Yes I have and absolutely loved it . So much reverence. The world would be different today . I can’t stand when people behave in church like it’s a theatre or are dressed very improperly . The saddest thing is that they don’t even see it . The last mass I went to , the lady in front of me was showing her husband the beds they were looking to buy , just scrolling through it . I almost went over and asked her to put her phone away ……. this is very very sad . They don’t even see how they are offending our Saviour. I wanted to cry . Jesus need to come soon and wake us all up because we are not heading to a good place . In the past year I asked people behind me or in front of me to stop talking and these were older people , it is really out of control. The few people that still remain in church have no reverence for God. The way they are dressed or the kids I wouldn’t even go to public like that . I saw a teenager wearing pyjamas to church , looked like he just got up from the bed . What’s next ?

community is really important. I love in Kerala India and belong to SyroMalabar rite. But I grew up in Africa. Went to a convent school run by Dominican sisters and really inculcated Catholic values. when I came back to live in India I didn't really belong to any parish as I was studying in different places far from home and I really felt a disaffection for my community and church. But once I came back and got married and belonged steadfastly to my current parish ,. my faith really got fertilized and flourished and l feel so grounded. It's great

You are so right about the "rigid" people. I found there were more people with a watered down faith at the NO mass than rigid people at the TLM. I think some of the rigidity comes from a need to preserve so as not to lose tradition...again. Im a mom of 7. We've attended TLM for about 20 years. My oldest was 14 when we switch ed from the Novus Ordo. It took about two years to make the complete switch. Lots of questions new things for the children to get used to. Surprisingly, the children acclimated very easily.

I've never been to a TLM and I would loved it to experience it. As you guys mentioned, I feel a bit afraid and unprepared to attend because its in Latin and I don't know the liturgy. I also need to convince my husband to go. He is practising catholic and we attend the NO mass every Sunday. However, he doesn't embrace change very much... we might need to travel about 30min to find one. I related to Janelle when she said they were looking for community. We need it as a family specially that my kids are not homeschooled ☹ and I don't see good influences for them even attending a Catholic School.

I have been Catholic for about 18 years but never found my niche - not my comfort level. I am disabled and home-bound, off and on, so of course it was hard to find my place - especially since Catholics tend to travel in families and are not welcoming to an older senior woman without family. ALSO, I noticed that I was often the ONLY person dressed modestly and carefully - while everyone else seemed to be in blue jeans and several women were dressed immodestly, with shoulders bare and low-cut blouses. I missed the feeling of gravitas, RESPECT, worship. Suddenly I realized that because I love the sound of Latin and Gregorian Chant, I realized I should try out the Latin Mass. There is only ONE parish church in my town that has a Latin Mass....but they are conducted almost every day around noon. Perfect for me, really. I am working up to going. I am also chanting the Angelus 3 times a day, in Latin, here at home. I can't wait to go to the TLM. To prepare myself, I've bought a couple books. I"ll be going soon, but probably not before having a meeting with someone over there and getting some help with access for my disabilities.

I grew up in a protestant church. I stopped going to church and denied Christ in my late teens and early twenties. After getting married, I began exploring the idea of returning to Christianity. I have done some research and believe TLM would be a great fit for my wife and I. Since I grew up a protestant, I am pretty much clueless about how to become Catholic. I would appreciate any guidance someone could give me.

I have been wondering about you two and quickly clicked this video. I hope you two will fully come to Tradition. As teachers you know that the Traditional Mass is the Mass of the ages that has preserved the Faith. Novus Ordo is an infiltration and adulteration of the Mass. My husband a convert to the Faith begged me not to take him again to the Novus ordo after he met Tradition.

I agree with everything you have said about the Latin Mass, it's Beautiful and Awesome! We have to travel to get to one here in Colorado, but do get there occasionally. We do have some very reverent Priests and Novus Ordo masses here in our town, fortunately, but do think the Latin Mass is the best. What I don't like about Novus Ordo is the "cafeteria catholics" and the lack of reverence and causualness of many (not all). Plus, I always kneel and receive the Eucharist on the tongue, and continue to wear my mantilla. I do Not receive from a "Eucharistic minister" because their hands are NOT consecrated and should not be distributing the Body of Christ. I can see it happening in "Extra-Ordinary" circumstances, which is the original reason to have them, but not as a matter of course. I would highly recommend everyone go and experience the Latin Mass🙏🙏💖

Praise be to God that you are answering His call to receive is this beautiful way! My tips would be to email your priest and to tell him your intention. Technically, cannon law does not allow him to deny you based on how you receive, but sadly it happens. Taking away the element of surprise may help ensure you aren't denied. Next, make sure your hands are in "pray hands" form it helps signal you don't want to receive in the hand. When receiving you can put your hands behind your back or under the sheet at the rail if one is provided. This is so if there is a misstep particles of our Lord won't be in multiple places. You could also choose to be last in line if you are worried about others being scandalized by the "spread of germs." I had to do this for awhile during covid. Lastly, really get your tounge out there. It's awkward the first few times however it makes the mechanics of receiving on the tounge much easier for both you and the priest. As a side note, sometimes the priest might accidentally touch you if he is not used to giving Holy Communion this way. While uncomfortable, don't let it stop you. You both will get in a rhythm soon enough. Sorry for the long response, hope it helps! Good luck and Pax Christi!

KEY WORD & VERY IMPORTANT POINT, "THE MASS IS NOT ABOUT US & ENTERTAINING US" IT IS FULLY & TRULY ABOUT JESUS & THE GIFT OF PURE LOVE HE GAVE HUMANITY IN DYING FOR OUR SINS SO WE CAN HAVE ETERNAL SALVATION". LATIN MASS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WAY WE CAN CELEBRATE & HONOR JESUS & TO EXPERIENCE HIS "TRUE" PRESENCE IN THE HOLY EUCHARIST. God Bless & I hope more people will be encourage to try attending a Latin Mass. SO JOYFUL TO HEAR YOU FOUND A CHURCH & COMMUNITY THAT CELEBRATES TRADITIONAL MASS. I WILL NEVER RECEIVE OUR LORD BY HAND EVER AGAIN. ANOTHER POINT THE LATIN MASS IS ACTUALLY A FULL PRAYER EXPERIENCE. THE PRIEST IS ADORING & PRAYING TO OUR LORD & WE ARE PARTICIPATING BY WITNESSING THIS INTER ACTION.

I converted to Catholicism several years ago, but the mass felt so similar to the protestant services I grew up with, I stopped going. Now I think I have always craved the solemnity and beauty that you find in a Latin mass. But I've been away from church so long, I could never fit in there. As a former protestant with limited experience with even the "regular" mass, I think I would be a bumbling fool!

Interesting . Our Parish is small and rural- we truly are a close knit community. Like a beautiful family - no one Catholic is the same. We embrace each other as we show up. We depend on each other in the community we live as our ancestors did. We depend on one another as we serve - as if we don’t pull together , the church would not be. No matter where you are - Jesus lives in the Eucharist and loves His ppl. So grateful as our Parish is called Corpus
