After nearly nine months of no travel, we decided to take a quick road trip to Huntsville, Alabama to visit a very special friend... the one and only Ray Cronise! And of course, we took you along with us so you can see what we ate, what we did and more.
You might know Ray as "CrayRay" from Penn Jillette's book. He is co-author of our favorite book The Healthspan Solution, the mastermind behind Penn’s weight loss, the host of Science & Saucery, and you know… a former NASA scientist. No big deal!
We had a lovely time enjoying some delicious plant-based food, touring the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, visiting the Jack Daniel's Distillery and so much more.

He is a legend in my book same reason. I saw Penn and wondered how he lost the weight . I got his book and found out about Ray. I was skeptical as i have followed many books. I lost 3 pounds a day for a week then i tried to stray but went back on the potatoes. Total weight loss was 40 pounds . I even shared it with my nurse at the doctors office. People just couldn't believe this was the reason i lost weight. Never having potatoes again. Thank you Ray from the bottom of my heart and soul.

I love Huntsville. It's about a 3 hour drive from me (northeastern Mississippi). It's been awhile since I've visited the space center, but I've been many times, and I always love it.

This is an awesome video, Ray is a great TOUR GUIDE, Obviously he is so knowledgeable about everything Wow His house looks like a Restaurants how lovely. RAY you sure can cook. I grew up in Huntsville! Worked at Space Camp through the late 80's, and met my husband there. And I go to that Asian market all the time! I live in the Chattanooga area now (speaking of Tennessee, and somewhere else you should visit! lol) but I make it a point to visit that market when I'm back in Huntsville visiting my family. I think I would have passed out if I'd seen you guys in there the same day as me. XD

I lived in Huntsville from 1968 to 1971. I worked at the Red Stone Arsenal. I loved living there!

Went to high school in huntsville and lived there until the late 80’s. Still have family and friends there. Huntsville is happening now.

Thirty years ago I visited Ohio and I remember that my relatives took me to a restaurant (Wendy's?) to eat. I was served ... one giant potato with an incredibly yellow cheese in the middle. Being Italian, I was very surprised by that simple meal. Little did I know that I would learn about Dr McDougall many years later and start loving potatoes just like pasta :-D.

I was born and raised in Titusville florida. My mother used to work out at kennedy space center. I really miss it but now I live hear in huntsville al so its not so bad lol. Just missing the beach

My dad was a rocket scientist. Isn’t that crazy?!!! I don’t know that much about his career because he passed away when I was 11. Then my brother passed away. My mom just never really had information that she remembered about it. But he worked on launch pads for NASA in Solon Ohio. But he also was on a committee team who figured out tinsel strength for space flight? I really don’t know what words I’m making. That patent was then purchased by Lincoln Electric in Ohio. That’s all I know. Or think I know? I don’t know.

Jessica bought it for me. Orson Scott Card did a t-shirt campaign. It is a limited edition shirt that was only available during the campaign. Unfortunately, I've worn it a ton, and the letters are starting to wear and crack. But I like wearing it because only a few people get the reference. 😀

Okay, you're officially famous. Getting recognized! Yes! I make a faux hot dog without a roll. The hamburger rice reminded me of this. I chop onions, add catsup, yellow mustard and relish or chopped sweet pickles. To me, it tastes just like a hot dog without the hot dog. Yum.

We tried to tour the Jack Daniels distillery once when we were early visiting some friends in that area. But, either it wasn't open to tours or we went to the wrong place. I think the distillery process is fascinating, even though I also do not drink. This makes me want to go back and give it a try again. It looks like y'all had a great trip! So fun! The museum in Huntsville is amazing, but it has been about 20 years since I went through there!

"Going to grocery stores is what we do" it is a sentiment I share I particularly enjoy shopping as a stranger in a strange land Finding and buying rolled oats and plant milk using very rusty Italian in Southern Switzerland is fun as is finding new food shops Especially finding small local organic shops Is both fun and interesting. Plus, of course, I need to go to some bookshops along the way.

When you were at Jack Daniels you were only 20 minutes from me. I work at the George Dickel Distillery about 20 minutes up the road from Jack. Our Bottled in Bond was Whisky of the Year last year. We are more a small batch distiller than Jack is. We have a Visitor Center and tours and tastings as well. Funny you mentioned the smell because I tell everyone it’s the best part of my job just getting to breathe the air! lol We make ours the same way as Jack since we are both Tennessee Whisky we just chill ours before it goes through the charcoal mellowing tanks. The original George said his whisky was smoother in the winter than in the summer so we chill it down like it would have been in the winter back in the day. And no I’m not misspelling Whisky. George said his was as good as any single malt scotch so he left the “e” off Whisky just like the Scotch makers do! Didn’t realize CrayRay was that close to me. I also started my journey after reading the book by Penn! Cool!

It is such an interesting process. We aren't drinkers but one has to respect the time, effort, and dedication that goes into making such products. 😀
