New remix with improved audio available - 🔗 • Our visit to Winston C...
A look around Winston Churchill's Chartwell estate in Kent.
Now in the care of the National Trust, Chartwell offers an insight into the life of Britain's great wartime leader, but so much more about him, and his wife, Lady Clementine Churchill, and their family life.
In our video, we will explore the different gardens, including the walled garden, explore the house, which will throw up a few surprises, before heading to his studio, where Sir Winston would come to relax and indulge in one of his passions. We will then take a stroll around the lake.
We will meet Jock (VII) and the black swans, hear from the great man himself and take a peek at the Museum he envisaged for Chartwell.
Here's the link to the National Trust Website for Chartwell

Hi Roland, Thanks so much, I am so glad you liked the video. We are very fortunate that Chartwell is only a short distance away, and we visit regularly to see the changes in the gardens, and it reminds us of how much a family man Winston was. We have also seen his last resting place in Westminster Abbey, but unfortunately, video isn't allowed, so we just have the photos from that visit. Once again, thanks so much for taking the time to comment. Stay safe, stay well and happy travels. Gary & Janis

Actually, Winston didn't have a huge amount of cash, or more to the point, he could have been better at keeping it. He was born into aristocracy and had lots of influential friends, but by 1945 he was close to selling Chartwell because he couldn't really afford to run it. However, those friends raised the funds for the National Trust to buy it, and allow the Churchill's to rent it until their deaths. It finally passed entirely to the National Trust in 1965, and opened to the public in 1966. Anyway, hope you enjoyed the video, and thanks for taking the time to comment. Gary & Janis

Hi, Sorry about that, looks like I may have to remix the audio for this, you're not the first person to mention it. The problem is you can't just replace the audio, whole new video needs to be uploaded. Perhaps one for the new year. Anyway, thanks for stopping by to leave a comment, All the best, Gary & Janis

The whispering voice is really quite appropriate - the estate is a 'hushed" beauty of great import - especially the marmalade cat - just kidding - but one does feel the many men & women who gave their lives for us all to escape the hitlerian horrors

I’ve never visited Chartwell but I really should! This part of Kent is truly beautiful. Westerham, Sevenoaks, Knole park and Brasted to name but a few. Also the villages of Eynsford, Shoreham, Otford towards Bat and Ball and onwards towards Sevenoaks are gorgeous for walking. Another lovely video, thank you!

Lucieni, you really should, and this time of year, the gardens will look amazing. It's a great day out, and it's a beautiful estate to explore where you get to see the different sides of Winston Churchill. I don't think you've discovered our Darenth Valley Road Trip yet - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jNKopbmYrtKcnaM.html The first part takes in Farningham & Eynesford, part 2 takes in Shoreham & Otford. @14:14 I’ve only ever seen black swans at Trago, Newton Abbot but apparently they live around Dawlish too. Not native (Australia) but they’re absolutely beautiful. Trago NA also have wandering Peacocks and families of pale (Albino?) peahens and fluffy babies wandering around the premises (Saw them a couple of weeks ago, 2 mums with 3 fluffsome chicks each!)

Tony, I'll have to check to see if Janis has watched that, I know she loved the series. I love adding the detail, but the research takes time, and I try to make sure it's as accurate as possible, because once it's baked in, that's it. Glad you enjoyed it, now I have to get my head down to finish Chester. All the best, Gary (& Janis)

Hi Stan, I read that, he was a very hands-on man. Although, If you catch the BBC series on the Houses of the National Trust, you discover his ambition outweighed his skills. The good news is the wall he built has now been made safe and will continue to be part of the Chartwell Estate. Thanks for taking the time to comment, All the best, Gary & Janis
