Freezing okra the easy way! A farmer here told me how to Freeze okra his way. Its so easy! I just love to talk to them. I bought half a bushel of okra and he asked how I put it up. I told him that I did it just like Sweet Hunters Granny told me. (Link below). He proceeded to tell me another way. So I decided to try it. You just take your okra and out in a black garbage bag and freeze. I did it two ways on this video. I flash froze some and then put in ziploc bags. Then I just separated out in to gallon ziplocs. He swears it works. I know I do other veges this way. We will see. I love easy!!!

Okra is one of those things that people either love or hate . I love okra. Pickled or any way you want to cook it, it's great. I really enjoy your videos. Listening to your southern accent makes me long for my childhood days with family.

Great video Val! I used to do my okra like that put whole in freezer, now I cut it up and put in food saver bags, so then all I do is thaw out about halfway and then add my cornmeal in the food saver bag and fry. We love it that way and so much easier. Love your backsplash😍

Love the backsplash! Love love okra! Fried, pickled, in a Cajun dish you name it! Also, purple hull peas are my favorite!! Can’t find those in KY. I got hooked when we lived in KC, our Pastor was from Siketson,MO they got me hooked!

I have always frozen my okra straight out of the garden in the plastic grocery bag. Then take out a mess, rinse in a colander and slice while partially frozen. I’ve never had it stick together in the freezer.

I use a blowdryer to to dry vegetables if they are wet before freezing. Put them on a towel first and then in a large bowl and turn them by hand while blow drying. Just keep it far enough away so they don't heat up. Works good on peas after blanching.

I wash my okra and let it dry overnight. Then sluce it it bite sized pieces and place in vacuum seal bags. I seal it on the gentle setting and freeze. Thaw gently to prepare for frying. I dip the okra in buttermilk and roll in flour/cornmeal mixture, then fry. Mmmm delicious!

the black bag is the best way to freeze okra ,and they don't stick together. I have been doing it for over 25 years . When you cook it it taste fresher than anything, just as if you just got it out of the garden. You just take what you want to cook, wash and cut it. The reason you put it in a black bag, is to keep the light out of it .

I do my green tomatoes like that and when frozen I take them out and place them in a freezer bag. When I want some I go and take out how many I want to eat and they are not stuck to each other so that I can bread them and fry them.

I know. I was intrigued. He says it’s as simple as putting in a garbage bag in the freezer and pulling out what you need. I love to talk to farmers.
