@@OurRichJourney I watched your video on 10 stages of FIRE. I calculated my FIRE number and realized I have passed stage 5 and it will take me approx. 15 months to reach stage 6. However, based in calculations seems like it will take me 44 years to reach stage 10. Can you please share how long it took for you to go from Stage 6 to Stage 10. And actions did you take during each stage?

I feel super motivated to go to live in the US: get an US salary, get tax advantages on savings and get a super cheap taxation. I even feel more motivated to have a partner to share costs. In some countries of Europe, we hold no hope. But I will think positive and at least try to do the right think 🙂, despite it will never come, one never know... positive thinking 👍🏻

You guys are amazing! I’m proud to say at age 50 I am at stage 10 and just recently paid off my house. As happy as this makes me....it also saddens me. I’m more aware now than ever of the dangerous retirement crisis our society is entering. The stats get worse everyday. It should be mandatory that our children are educated on financial matters, so this can be reversed. I hope your KZfaq channel blows up because you are definitely the right kind of people to educate others. Keep up the good work!

Cynthia Harrison Congrats! May I ask you what you mean about the “dangerous retirement crisis”? Does it mean that way too many people are retiring early and living off investments in index funds or property, and that the bubble will burst one day?

@@itcouldhavebeenme Glad there other older firestarters. I am 56 but I didn't learn about the FIRE movement until about 53. Had I know about this in my twenties, I can guarantee you I would of been pursing FIRE and retired by my 30s. Fortunately for me, I was half way there and just need to do some tweaks. I am at stage 10 as well. The one thing about the FIRE movement, they tend to focus on young people only. To me retire early means retire early no matter what age you are. Older people who maybe planning to retire at 65 like myself need to know they too can do this if they have already been saving. For me, I sold my home and paid cash for a smaller home. I already had the savings and investments, I just needed to get my expenses down. Once I sold my home and started saving 78% of my income, it put me at stage 10 in less than 2 years. So at the end of 2020 December 31st, I am officially retiring from corporate america. I am debt free including mortgage, have passive income, low expenses and have my 25x my annual expenses saved up. I just have some loose ends to tie up, should take about 9 months after that I am FREEEEEEEEE!!!! Free at last, Free at last.....thank God Almighty Free at Last

@@itcouldhavebeenme The "retirement crisis" I believe she is referring to is that many people get to age 65 and cannot afford to retire. Social Security is not enough to live on and is all that a lot of older folks have. You can't rely on the Govt. to take care of you, you must plan for taking care of yourself and Social Security is a bonus.

I just reached stage 4, and you guys are right, $10,000 was so exciting and motivating! I was especially shocked at how quickly it happened after I made the decision to reach financial independence. I went from negative net worth to 10k in 8 months! Can't wait to reach 50k and beyond :)

This is very helpful and also very encouraging. Stage 8 now, and I did not realise where I was in my own journey. 50% of the target has been achieved at age 43…. I’m very happy now, and pumped to get to the final goal. I am hoping to get there by age 50. Love from South Africa. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

This morning - I hit the point that I can take my passive (book writing income) and invest it ... and I did. My yearly raise is scheduled to hit my paycheck May 1, and I plan to take that difference and invest it - continuing to live on my current budget. I have been stressing about this a lot lately and this video was so timely to give me hope. I really started getting intentional back in November and have come so far so fast. As of a few weeks ago, I hit 10% of my FI number (including our house). Once we pay it off, we should be at 25% and then things will go up fast. Thank you for addressing this topic and helping people realize that it's a series of steps and progressively gets faster.

I’m 26 and my husband is 29. We’re at 25% now basically by accident! We hadn’t heard of FIRE, we just save and invest diligently, and pride ourselves on having no debt whatsoever! My husband is also OBSESSED with his immaculate budget spreadsheet, and we know how we spend every single penny. We’ve also made smart/lucrative career moves early in our careers and refuse to let our career progress stall. It’s our goal in 2021 to each create one additional income stream for our household, because we’ve never had side hustles before but we could definitely be doing more to reach our goals sooner! We love your channel and we’re both inspired to make a long term financial goal so we can be intentional about what we’re doing and also have something to look forward to / work towards!

YASSSS!! I love this explanation. I've seen others where the stages are broken down based on how comfortably your money will allow you to live, but I really like how the ones you mentioned allow you to have a percentage in mind in terms of the goal you are trying to reach. I'm a few stages in myself, but still have a loooooonnnngggg way to go. What I know it be true though, is that I plan on being financially independent by or before 40. I mention this to people too. In casual conversations about work, investing, and retirement I tell people that I plan to retire at 40. Amazingly, especially in this day and age where FIRE is now a decently recognized concept, I still get pretty much the same, "Uh huh, sure reaction" from people and people who make way more than I do at that. I'm not sure why it's so important to me or even what I'll do when I get there. I'm positive I'll still be working when I do, but because I love whatever job I'm doing, not because it pays the bills. Whatever the case, it's really inspiring to hear from those who are nearly there. Your videos are some of the most informational I've seen so far and I'm so excited for you all that you're steps away from reaching financial freedom!!

Oh my goodness! I calculated our net worth and we are at stage 7 now. I couldn’t believe it!! I always worry about being behind, and so having these steps to measure our goals are very reassuring to me. We have multiple accounts between my husband and myself. @@OurRichJourney We have already relocated to a lower cost of living location with plenty of room for an art, carpentry and metal shop on our no mortgage property. The house is about 1,100 sq ft and the shop is about 4,000 sq ft. So initial plans are to complete the shop build-out then use the shop to rehab the house. I was a trim carpenter prior to going to college at age 36 and love to build, sculpt, draw and create things. My wife also has fun creating and making things and loves to cook, bake and tryout new recipes. The only thing left is to dump my now remote "office cubicle" job in IT, at the end of the year. Go team delayed gratification!!!!! Haha!

Please tell me how to start investing at fidelity. I fill out everything and when it comes the part for me to transfer the money, I got stuck. I wanna transfer it from my savjngs account or checking account, but the don't give me that option

I was feeling really behind, but this video really helped. I’ve made it to stage 6 with being intentional for about 18 months. How exciting. To be fair, I’ve been contributing to my 401K since I graduated.... but recently upped to the max and got serious about tracking my spending.

Congratulations! I loved that you said it only took you 5 years to get where you are today. Makes me hopeful. I started investing late in the game, when I was in my thirties. However, I was able to purchase some stocks in their infancy and when the market was down. I definitely need to put more money into stocks rather than just in CDs and bonds. Currently I'm at Stage 4 and hope to make Stage 5 in 2 years. That's the goal. Breaking this down into stages makes saving more feasible. Please continue making these videos, they help a lot!

STAGE 4!!! Congrats!! You're going to fly through the stages. As we mentioned once we knew what we our number and the stages we got intentional. We made more money and saved and invested more money and our investments took off. This is what will happen to you too. Keep up the great work! And please comeback and share when you hit stage 5 :-)

Guys, I felt like I can't wait till tomorrow - I needed my A+C fix already, so I randomly ran into this video. It gave me goosebumps to see that older version of you talk about being so close. Thanks to your video I just realized that I'm at a much higher stage than I though!!! I'm actually at about 20% of my mid FI number and 15% of my biggest (the splurge FI) number, and I currently have a stellar savings rate of 10% of the remaining amount per year, i.e. even without factoring compounding in we should be there in 10 years, if we manage to stay in business for that long. And given the current crash, I might get better bang for the money I'm currently putting in. And both I and my partner (even more) all the time feel like we'll never get there. I think it's time to pat ourselves on the shoulder and admit that we have actually achieved something.
