When they say North Indian weddings and South Indian weddings, dont believe it all.. 😅 In North India itself there are different religious practices in different places.. and in South India, Andhra wedding is different from Tamil wedding, which is different from Kerala wedding.. and also depends on ur religious beliefs, being a Christian, Hindu and Muslim etc.. Even when my husband and I got married - we are both Hindus whose parents are from Kerala, yet, we had to blend different practices, since we are from two districts within Kerala.. That is how different each regions are.. 🙂🙂😃😃

Kissing is a very private thing according to us😅 kissing in hindu weddings is a big no no 😂 it's not part of any ritual and never happens in traditional weddings. A Hindu wedding, the way the rituals are structured, is also meant as ice-breakers for both the families. In Hindu traditions, it's not just the bride and groom coming together, but also two families coming together. This is a typically rich, Punjabi wedding, and doesn't represent how wedding ceremonies are done in other parts of India.. Nevertheless, a good, light intro to an Indian wedding.

This bollywood style sangeet is a fairly new phenomena popularised by bollywood movies. Sangeet ceremonies did happen in Indian weddings but usually it was people coming together and singing some folk and religious songs.

So the usual Indian wedding goes on for 4 days normally. First day is Mehendi ceremony (which is when people apply Hannah on their hands and feet and dance and eat and have fun), second day is Sangeet (which is the dance ceremony where people from both bride and groom side prepare dance performances and perform on that night - in Gujarat we also perform Garba), third is the Baarat (called "Jaan" in Gujarat, when the groom side goes to wedding place from their home) and Wedding (haldi is usually on the same day before wedding) and the fourth day is the wedding reception (where people come to greet the newly wed couple with gifts and stuff). These are the base 4 days of an Indian wedding but the in-between traditions are different in different regions, like the Chura ceremony they talked about in this video is a Punjabi tradition, which not all regions have. In Gujarat we have a tradition called "Grah Shanti" (which tranlates to "peace of planets"), which is performed to take the blessings of all 9 planets and ask for peace and prosperity in the marriage and the union of 2 families. It is usually performed by the paternal uncle and auntie of the bride and groom, and its rituals are very similar to the wedding rituals, so technically the uncle and auntie marry each other again when they perform Grah Shanti. There are many more small rituals that are different for different regions of India. Also, traditionally wedding is supposed to be organized by the bride side and reception is organized by the groom side, because on wedding, groom comes to bride's home to marry her and takes her to his home. But nowadays both the sides contribute equally in both the big functions.

Come to India to experience a traditional Indian wedding.. The traditions may vary every 100-200km.. so every wedding is fun and something new to learn.. And kissing in public is a no no.. it's considered a very private and special moment for the bride and groom and that privacy is respected.. also arranged child marriages were conducted earlier (generations back) hence the bride and groom are still young to understand the concept of marriage and becoming a couple, hence obviously no kissing there especially with a strange boy/girl in front of their family.. Obviously things are not the same now..

This is more americanized wedding I would say.. They missed so many things.. I'm not south Indian but I can say, it was no where near a South Indian wedding or even Punjabi wedding which they were trying to show. This is more rich than traditional.. I'm from Kerala (South India). 1) We don't have any tradition of bride or groom coming on top of any animal. 2) Marriage last only for one day. It doesn't go for many days. (Some caste has exception in the procedures, but 90% of weddings last for a single day in the South) 3) "Whoever gets the garland first, is supposed to have the upperhand" - completely wrong. We have specified rules of whom should put the garland first.

I live in Kerala and my north Indian friend came to my wedding few years ago. Unlike weddings in other states, Malayalee Hindu weddings are really short (atleast in my place).😁 It's like blink and you miss it 😁 The friend during my wedding was sitting in the auditorium along with other guests. That's a very short cut wedding 😃 but anyway wedding rituals are very different everywhere. But exchanging garlands, groom putting Sindoor on the head of the bride or groom tying the thali (kinda necklace) around his bride's neck and ritual of seven steps and vows in presence of fire is mostly there in all the weddings. Quite surprised this video didn't have seven steps ritual.

Also when it's inter-state or inter-religious, two different customs are combined and it's a whole load of rituals. It's actually fun attending them. In general north indian weddings are a bit more lavish and south indian weddings are simpler. Saree is just one piece of fabric.The bride wore lehenga here.

abt the questions u asked....the ans is kind of complicated.. well in some weddings the henna and sangeet ceremonies are different and happen is individual homes so that ceremony in itself is like bridal shower...but what happens in groom's house...idk very well...the other aspect is that now in more modern times the bride and groom do have their separate parties with their friends like almost how it happens there in US

In Telugu weddings...you can say it lasts up to 16 days... the traditional events (they are not in the correct order..) are:-- 1. pellikuthuru/pellikoduku cheyadam - bridal/groom shower.. the bride and groom must not see each other after this event, and none of the close family members are allowed to cross any water body or their state's borders 2. gajula panduga - a street bangle vendor comes to supply enough bangles for every woman for all the events 3. mangala snanam - this is usually an extension to the bridal shower and it is a super traditional old school spa kind of thing 4. snathakam for the groom - the groom now wishes to give up worldly pleasures and wants to start going to pilgrimages.. and the bride's brother must convince the groom to stay and get married to his sister and have an awesome life with her 5. edurukolu - the bride's family and the groom's meet for the first time since the wedding has begun.. and they give each other a set of offerings to congratulate on this happy occasion 6. Gauri pooja and Ganesh pooja - Gauri pooja is for the bride...she prays to Gauri Devi and then the groom prays to Lord Ganesh. 7. we don't exactly have a baarat for the groom.. but the bride is made to sit in a big basket made out of bamboo and carried by her mother's brothers and if they need another helping hand, her brothers. 8. Jeelakarra bellam - you saw this in the video... we use only these 2 because once you mix them.. it is impossible to take them apart.. trust me I have seen my cousins suffer for the next 2 days after their wedding trying to get that thing off their hair. This is the most important part of the wedding. 9. Talambralu - this is a very very fun part you don't want to miss at any cost!!!! the bride and groom put coloured rice grains on each other..its so much fun!! I don't know why I am not able to convey that fun while typing this. 10. this is where the groom ties the yellow thread around the bride's neck and that thread stays forever. and they are officially a couple! 11. then there's homam.. everyone is sooooo tired by now but the newlywed couple finishes the homam 12. Arundhati - this is the name of a star very important in weddings..this is how you finally end the main wedding process when the groom shows the star to the bride. 13. they move on with appagintalu (bidaai, the send-off) or pelli bhojanalu (their first meal as a family) 14. then depending on what day of the week it is...the bride goes home with her parents or her husband... after the appagintalu 15. the very next day the couple has to wake up early in the morning and perform the 'Satya Narayana Vratham' Now they can finally move on with their lives...and then comes the... 16. padaharu rojula pandaga - exactly translates to the 16 days since wedlock festival... I have never been to one of those... so I am not sure... but what I think happens there is the elders decorate the sacred yellow thread tied on the wedding day with red and black beeds... there are few more fun games for the couple...somewhere in between the ceremonies..and for the next in line girls.. be it on the bride's side or the groom's side.. and a lot lot lot more things this is just a summary and a very short explanation... you can call this a to-do list!
