If i recall 'Guide' was an American Indian collaboration film. Wiki: Dev Anand was approached by American director Tad Danielewski and writer Pearl Buck for an American film based on the 1958 novel The Guide by R. K. Narayan. Anand declined at first, but agreed to collaborate with Danielewski when he met him again at the 1962 Berlin Film Festival. Anand read the novel and contacted Buck, who invited him to the United States to discuss the project. He then reached Narayan to procure the rights to the book. Buck tutored Waheeda Rehman on her diction for the English part. The sequence featuring the sond "Aaj Phir Jeene Ki Tamanna Hai" was shot in the Chittor Fort in Rajasthan. The Indian and American production teams clashed, causing Anand to postpone the Hindi version. A 120-minute U.S. version titled The Guide was written by Pearl S. Buck and directed and produced by Tad Danielewski. The film was screened at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival, 42 years after its release.

Arguably the best ever Hindi film song, certainly my all time number 1.

An interesting thing about this song: it's one of those rare instances where the song starts with antara (middle stanza) and not mukhda (the primary chorus)

It will be too tough for these people to understand situation, meaning, emotions conveyed by the song. Opening lines - Aaj fir jine ki tamanna hai .. aaj fir marane ka erada hai .. How will they understand meaning of these lines?

This is a unique song in indian film music and the only song wich starts with ' Antara ' ,well my English is not so good to explain it , anyway I will try, normally in indian music starts with 'Pallavi' ( starting couple of lines) and next lines are called 'antara', But , this song starts with antara ,it was a unique and surprisingly melodious for us Indians and still is a very popular song even though its a 60s song.

I like other songs from this movie like Din Dhal Jaye, Piya Tose, etc. MUCH MUCH more than this song although this one is probably the most popular number from the album.

You will love the concept!! The film revolves around Nalini(Rosy) and Raju the guide.. Nalini who lived to dance was married to a rich architect who never had any interest in dance or songs.. When Nalini and his husband Marco came to Rajasthan.. His husband got busy in his work and Raju convinced her to start dancing again when he got to know how much she loves dancing.. By the influence Nalini broke all ties with her husband and stepped into a new life with Raju.. She became a popular face but the slowly Raju became very greedy and craved for wealth.. He started gambling, drinking etc. When Marco came to meet Nalini the last time Raju did not allow to meet them and stole the jwelleries of Nalini from bank taking Marco's name.. When Nalini came to know this, the police got Raju arrested.. After 2 years when she went to jail to meet Raju she got to know that Raju was released few months ago.. But he never returned home.. He went to another village where he was believed to be a saint.. He fasted for many days to call rain as per the believe of people.. Though initially Raju never liked this but gradually he also got attached with the people amd never wanted to hurt them.. He fasted and one day Nalini arrived there searching for him.. There was a day when the battle between peaceful mind and greedy brain began where the mind won.. That day the rain fell but Raju was no more...

Dev Anand was an icon and evergreen superstar. His style of film making and acting were ahead of its time. He was very unique in terms of directing a film. His collaboration with his brother Vijay Anand was really a fun to watch. I have watched some glorious movies by him like CID, Jewel Thief, Hum Dono, Banarasi Babu, Chhupa Rustom, Awwal Number, Hum Naujawan. He was very dynamic. He made different kinds of films like Awwal Number on Match fixing, Hum Naujawan on college youths, Censor on censorship of films in India. Simply the greatest of all times.

In case you didn't know...she is the actress from the Black and White movie Kagaz Me Phool...that you loved. She of course was much younger then and Guru Dutt was the actor. React to same movie Guide her dance songs....

Just for knowledge, Guide was Guru Dutt's dream project he wanted to make with wahida rehman the heroine, but unfortunately he died. So guru dutt shared his last wish to his dearest friend DEV Anand to make GUIDE. And devanand made best movies of bollywood.

Not only it ended abruptly, this also starts abruptly. This is the first song if not the only one which starts from the mid and circles back to the title of the song. In that sense it was quite an experiment at that time by the legendary Music director S.D. Burman.

It’s from the movie where this beautiful lady performed a mesmerizing dance performance on stage which you described as MGM type grand stage setup and the highlight was Waheeda’s beautiful performance

This film is awesome. I had the good fortune to find it on KZfaq w subtitles. A good one to react to would be Reengela Re Tere Rang Mein by Lata from another Dev Anand film "sung" by Waheeda Rehman in 1970 film Prem Punjari. Looking for that one too lol Suman Kalyanpur has some duets w Mohd Rafi she sang when Lata and he had a falling out. It's easy to confuse her voice with Lata.
