Hi I am a candle maker and truly there is so much more to it. It is dangerous to use essential oils, plants and even crayons. Also it is a huge fire hazard to not permanently anchor down the wick. What happens when the wax melts, it can cause the wick to drift off to the side of the vessel , that creates a hot spot that can lead to explosion. Also wooden wicks are dangerous in my opinion. They can spark outside of the candle. I am only posting because it’s a safety thing. I love all of your videos, and appreciate the inspiration of your channel 🌸🙏🌸

We burn all candles in the empty kitchen sink with nothing flammable nearby. Also we got some wax on our glass top stove & it’s very difficult to remove. From now on we use a separate little hot plate to melt wax. Took about four baking soda/soap scrubs to try to get all the wax off.

Why are essential oils bad to put in candles?

I use soya wax for my candles as regular wax is a carcinogen

@@chants_22 soy is typically grown with lots of glyphosate which is a known carcinogen as well as chemical fertilizers. Soy isn't as eco friendly as people think unless it's organically grown.

Tried the technique on thinning the printer paper using the packing tape. Brilliant. So much easier than using the clear tape on the top then wetting and rubbing off the backing. So thank you thank you thank you 😬

Thank you so much for the idea on the photo candle. The technique on making the paper thinner, I didn’t even think about doing that to put it on a candle. Another great idea would be to put the photo on a battery candle so the light will glow through for many years at Christmas, and can be done with a general picture to keep out all year long!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family, may you have a blessed and safe holiday!!!

Nice gift ideas. A small tip so that candle does not sink in the middle once it solidifies. Let the candlewax cool down before you pour into final vessel. I learned this little trick from watching a UTube video.

As a candle maker I would caution against using vessels that can burn such as wooden bowls Also, adding other elements into the wax can cause a fire so be sure to include a caution note with your gift

I used to make candles all the time when I was a little girl I love to make candles and now they have the smells I just ordered peppermint I love the eucalyptus too love it ALSO if you put peppermint oil on a cotton ball it repels spiders cockroaches bugs mosquitoes all kinds of things you can Google it you'll see but when you put peppermint oil on a cotton ball you need to have little tiny trays or something because it can discolor the surface but that's another subject The smell of the peppermint itself would probably repel any bugs it does repel maps too and flies thank you for the good information I'm going to try this today 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

This is a wonderfully inspiring video and I look forward to making some gifts myself, but I think a few of these tips need a bit more research to be safe. I wouldn't recommend using a wooden bowl, or not securing the wick at the bottom. Also please be careful using essential oils! Best to aim for fragrance oils made for candle-making. Thanks for sharing inspiration, though!

Your candels are awesome. I love all of them, scented and not scented. I just can't do the puns one as I'm allergic to that scent. We did a project like the photo on candle in college back in mid-70s. But we put clear contact on the front & burnish. Place in warm water with Joy or Dawn. The paper fibers will fall off & the colors are stuck on the contact paper. You don’t have to cover it with clear cote or Modge Podge.

Hi, I believe you can safely melt your wax in the microwave. It is quicker and has less chance of it burning. Of course, this cannot be done in a tin can but an old container that is glass will work well. In this case, you can have the heat source (microwave ) in your shop, maybe a thrift store one that is just used for craft projects.

Please Note: Using crayons to add color looks great BUT when you go to burn your candles it smells really terrible, it smokes too, the more crayon you use the worse it is. Just letting you know so you aren't disappointed after you've put in all the work. For outdoor candles it might not bother you too much of course.

Hi! I love your videos and especially this one with candles. I have two questions though if I may. Once you start burning them is the throw ( smell good)? I always wonder how much essential oils to add to make the smell nice and strong. Second question with wooden bowls someone asked me if these are fire safe so I thought I’d ask. Thanks so much! I hope you don’t mind the questions.

Thanks for watching Jann! I find they smell nice with 5 -7 drops in that size candles. I have never had any problems burning any but of course you don't leave unattended

Love all the candles. I too use up my old candles just like you but the only thing is when the candles cool there is a hole ( of wax) in the center. I cannot work out what I am doing wrong I can see you candles do not have this.

I'm trying to figure out how to decorate candle holders.

Beautiful candles, but a little FYI, a friends house almost burnt down using a home made candle with a wooden bowl. Lucky it didn't burn the house down but it totally destroyed their living room.

I'd be concerned with using a wick that isn't anchored. Once the wax heats as it burns the wick will start to float around.

What about candles in church? They don't have an anchor.

@@SirThreepio Tapered candles burn differently than say candles in jars due to the height. There's a reason why they sell the stickers for the metallic wick holders.

The wood bowl for sure, but do you need to worry about it catching on fire???

To make that photo candle easier, why not just print it out on tissue or vellum? I have made lanterns with vellum photo prints, and they are amazing looking!

I’ve watched this wonderful video several times. Can the “Snowfakes” candle method also work on a battery candle ?

If the battery candle has a was coating on it , yes you can! If not you can decoupage it on :) Thanks for watching
