An abandoned Victorian Holiday Resort - Should we stay?

This week, you join us in North Devon where we visit the stunning (but VERY windy) Valley of Rocks on the edge of Exmoor National Park.

Wild camp at an abandoned Victorian holiday resort at Woody Bay and give you the tour.
We grab supplies and visit the private (and car less) fishing village of Clovelly.

That night we were recommended an ideal park up in the village of Instow.
We stop of at Surfed Out in Braunton and do a little shopping in Woolacombe before breakfast with a view and an awesome stroll around the rocky edge of Mortehoe

We find Rose Quartz Crystal at Lee Bay and have lunch at Combe Martin before tackling the steep roads of Lynton & Lynmouth.
Another shockingly windy night wild camping at Woody Bay was had before meeting with friends Rich & Vix for Coffee and Cakes in Woolacombe and take a tour of their immaculate VW Crafter van conversion. / truck.morris.vw

OMG you're at Instow! We holidayed here like 4 years in a row, little place called Umberleigh and the place was Bedport Barn. Instow was a recommendation by the landlady and it is still one of our favourite places. Really beautiful with the backdrop of Appledore behind. Instow Arms is fantastic for a pub meal, dog friendly and does good brekkies too! You have invoked such memories in this one! ❤

Instow was a lucky strike for us too…Recommended by a chap in a neighbouring town when we couldn’t find parking. We’ve been back a few times and always enjoyed it. Super friendly locals too! 🫶🙌

Hi guys, i work away in Africa and watching your vids make me want to be back home. All the places that you went to, i go to with my boys in the back of the T5. I was at woody bay a few months back. Cant wait to get back and do it again. See ya about i hope. Great vids and seem like such nice people. Keep it going.

Loved your Upload North Devon is just beautiful, Woolacombe is just stunning and croyde not to far behind but I have to say Ilfracombe is quite run down and needs some money being spent on the town plus a lik of paint.

Cheers Dean, North Devon is one of our 'go to' favourites! We LOVE Croyde too but not so dog friendly on the beach in the Summer. We went to a wedding in Ilfracombe 'Tunnels Beaches' last Summer...That was lovely. Glad you enjoyed the vlog!

Hey guys, have you ever visited the lighthouse near Lynton? It used to be a National Trust place and I have stayed there twice, many years ago. Locals in Lynmouth refused to recognise it's existence when we were there, which was a bit odd! It made us feel like we were in a Scooby Doo episode. It is visible on what three words at //given.exile.motoring. Great vlog both.

Hey Tony, cheers mate, appreciate that. We have upgraded our leisure batteries this year to an amazing, full Victron smart system inc 200Ah lithium battery served by 400w solar panels and a B2B charger. We’re super happy with the upgrade 🙌

Yeah, the Lithium’s a bit of a ‘gulp’ price but for us, a game changer for usability and weight saving. We fried our AGM’s and had to just go for it!

Glad you didn’t attempt Lee Bay from the Mortehoe direction! Been around that area lots in our van You’re van looks great! (Recognise your friend’s van from the Evo website)

Haha, I made that mistake last year…..The van still caries the scars of that mess up! The relief when I saw a local bus come in, turn & go out the other way…. I just couldn’t face turning back 🙌

Technical question.. I see that you have roof boxes.. Have you noticed any effect on mpg? Thinking of installing on my adria twin.. Cheers

Hi Stephen, yes, we do suffer a little as it’s as aerodynamic as a house brick. I’m sure there’s probably more lost with the weight too but the 30+ MPG we used to get as an empty panel van is now about 25 MPG if we’re careful (but often a little less - ooops!)
