As August begins, our Oakland squad is shockingly still right in the middle of the AL wildcard race. But we can't possibly make the playoffs with this ragtag bunch... can we?

I would expect a significant regression in terms of wins next year given that Pythagorean differential. Unless you work your magic of course..

I hope you are wrong, but I tend to agree. And I hope your definition of "magic" includes letting half my roster go and getting lucky with a new crop of bargain basement free agents! Because that may be the only trick I have up my hat!

@@oldschoolsports to the original point, outperforming pythag often accompanies a good bullpen. Do you adjust strategy settings to yank starters (good ones who will be hard to acquire) earlier or otherwise tailor settings to match team composition? Ive just started doing this and i actually think it has an effect/can cover up weaknesses (ex. Heavy platoon bats, terrible SP but good BP, good team speed, etc.)

@@abcdefghijkl5408 I always set my pitchers to aggressive tiredness hook, will sometimes move to a quicker hook than default/recommended, and will pitch around/intentionally walk a bit less with players with great stuff but suspect control. Going to need to press every lever possible with this team, so if you have more ideas would love to hear them!

That would be nice! I'm not counting on being quite that dominant, but hopefully we can get the A's back to the playoffs eventually!

Great season! I think the changes you made to the coaching staff was part of the secret sauce here. Just one note - I noticed on your Finances screen, the IAFA budget was set to $0 - I am sure you want it higher than that to satisfy Mr. Fishers goal of getting more IAFA Talent! I wish the owner would stop touching the budget after they decide to change it. So many times I've had to go back in and fix it because these doofus owners think they know what the budget should be!

Thanks for the heads up, I did happen to notice it... but it is the type of thing I'm sure I've missed at one point or another through dozens of games and hundreds of seasons!

Amazing record given the current roster good work with smart moves, learning for when i try again on attempt #3 of rebuilding this team. Kinda wanna restart so i can compare progress with u lol

I am optimistic and interested in seeing how the young arms progress also. Hopefully I can keep my job long enough to see them through to the majors!

Great season OSS. Love the content. I'm not the expert in OOTP that you are sir, but just in case I wanted to share a couple things with regards to IAFA that I have noticed. - The AI doesn't seem to care much for trading IAFA budget space, so if there's a "must have" player in the class of prospects, you can trade for an extra 250k of budge space and be able to out-bit the rest of the field. - If you find yourself with even 500k of budget space left over at the end of the feeding frenzy, just hold on to that budget space until June-ish - then go back and look. I have been able to consistently sign 1-2 decent lottery tickets (45-55 potential players) for pennies on the dollar - usually catchers or relievers but potentially fantastic value! Also, if I might ask a question - how do you manage your minors? I've seen you have a few players "locked" but do you let your Ass. GM handle promotions/demotions and the like? Just curious as I'm looking for ways to speed my SIM's up without giving up too much control. :) Keep it coming! Go A's!

Thank you! I have occasionally traded for IAFA money in the past, I probably will need to be more diligent on both of the topics you mentioned with these A's, because I think my margin for error is low, so every little move I can make that improves the team is more important. I handle promotions and demotions in the minors. I let my managers handle the lineups and pitching staffs, but I force start the top prospects at each team into specific roles to ensure they get playing time no matter what those managers think.

Can you put the tiebreaker game on for future years because it’s just much better suited for baseball with expanded playoffs. And you don’t have to worry about the travel in a virtual game, and game 163 use to be so fun

Shame the season fell away in the end but even so a really good first season for you considering the shape of the organising you took over. I'm not really up on what's been going on with the real world A's but gather from your comments that he's far from Mr Popular with the fans.

Off topic, but I cannot do Commissioner mode. Rising being fired is most of the fun, and that is what it is meant to be am I right? I am trying to play my own replay, and have totally gutted my A’s. Going into the draft, I have nobody making more then 2.5 million, and all my high priced guys are gone. My A’s are winning less, and hitting better then you’re A’s. Brought up Perez from AAA to be my Catcher on ML Minimum. Fisher may can me, but he has plenty of Cash if he does. Fun stream, even though I am a few episodes behind. Forgive me if I ask questions based an a later video. Thanks again, love your Channel.

Good year for the A's! Slightly disappointed in my mariners losing to your Yankees, but what can you do :) Do you know how the AI values steals? Could leading the league in steals give some trade value to Ruiz, perhaps to get some (2-3) higher level prospects from a team? I've never really had a high steal player in my rebuilding years, so I'm not sure how that factors in

Fellow M's fan here! I am guessing AI doesn't value steals too highly....could be something to exploit by acquiring good baserunners who are otherwise flawed. Perhaps the good baserunning (and certainly mason miller) contributed to outperforming pythag record.

It looks like I can get some decent (but expensive contract) MLB talent back for him, but not too much as far as prospects, unfortunately.
