Wow, great design Subaru! It should come with a hitch from the factory. What a pain in the ass that is. Great video by the way and thanks for sharing. This model is a no go for me unless I find one that already has one.

I just installed a Torklift Stealth Ecohitch on a '23 Suby Outback Wilderness dual exhaust for a friend. Easy Peasy, maybe hair over 3 hours with a 13yo boy doing most of the install, me checking his work. Only cutting was a notch on the facia where just the 2" square receiver hitch protrudes at the bottom. No exhaust removal, no heat shield messing with. Rated 525lbs, 3,500lbs towing. I am a retired Mech Eng, Torklift does really good design and manufacturing. Avail from Etrailer or straight from Torklift.

Thanks for the video. My hitch didn't come with instructions and the Subaru site I visited wanted $30 to access instructions. Luckily, I found a forum that had the instructions that I could download to make the template. It took me about 4 hours total, with the most time spent on getting the bumper fascia layed out and cut. Removing the bumper, exhaust and installing the hitch took only about an hour. BTW, my car is brand new, so no rust to deal with.

Well you did a better job than the Subaru dealership did on mine lol! They screwed the cut up and had to replace the entire bumper, which meant repainting the little side pieces and they made such a horrific mess of the paint job that they need to replace the entire bumper for the second time! Been a gong show! I wish I would have done my own install!

oh terrible. After doing this, I felt like there were a number of places where a dealer would screw up. I'm glad I did it.
@nathanstrong11192 жыл бұрын
@@fartbus For sure, I knew better but they gave me 3 years warranty if they install and only 1 year if I install and like a sucker I went for it lol

This same thing just happened to me. They used the wrong template and cut the wrong shape. Been waiting 2 weeks for a job that should have been 2 days.

How much did the dealer charge? This is def beyond my personal capability.

@@cuzthatshoweyroll The dealer charged just under $1000

This is great! Thanks for sharing, man. Here’s to hoping the process will be just as straightforward on my Forester Wilderness… fingers crossed… 🤞🏻

First time I've seen that install, with that nice trim plate. Good job.

Thank you, jeebus for sharing this with us. It really boggles the mind that something like this can’t be more easily accommodated directly from factory? Why do we have to cut anything? Well, thanks for demonstrating and nice car!

What did you use the cut the bumper?

Excellent work but what a monumental effort needed just to install a trailer hitch.

Nice thanks for showing where that plug is! I'm going to be installing an etrailer hitch here soon with a 4 pin connector. Didn't like how the oem hitch cuts out the bumper also didn't want to mess with my exhaust and no way in hell was I paying the dealer price to have it done

Great video thanks for sharing your project. I need to do the same since my outback wilderness did not come with a hitch. Do you have the site were you ordered your hitch? I would appreciate it if you can help me with that info. Thanks

Hey! I just bought a geyser blue OBW and am not really worried about scratches and chips. But wanted to ask if you got any ppf or ceramic coating? I might get a ceramic coating kit and do it my self to save thousands of dollars. Thoughts now after 2 years with the blue? Is it necessary?

Thanks. Do you lose the rear tow hook mount points when with the hitch on?

I have the same question.

@@MNsaint My hitch is now installed. You do lose those tow hook mounts. Of course, you can use the hitch itself for towing or getting towed.

Great tutorial, I'm just a little concerned because of the crash bar removal. That hitch looks pretty good but..is it reliable? Dont want to trade security for practicity.

Do those two part numbers include all of those pieces/items to get the job done? I’m looking online and either those part numbers aren’t sufficient or these online post descriptions are poorly written!

Nice video! I installed my hitch today and when I cut out the hole for the fascia the template was too big for some reason. I measured and everything it was the right size but the hole is too big now. Any ideas on how to fix it without having to buy a new bumper?

Great video. Going to order an identical car/color combo as well. Do you mind sharing what is your experience with the Geyser Blue so far, considering it’s not metallic and may be more sensitive to scratches/swirl marks/etc?

Very different than the european version of a hitch. Ours is totally invisible when not used.

Thank you for this. But it’s a total boner on Subaru. I just picked up my 2023 outback wilderness. I can’t believe Vehicle marketed for off-road outdoor etc. doesn’t come with this. What’s even more ridiculous is you have to cut the bumper etc. 🤦🏻♂️
