Wow so much work. I have the same engine and I was worried about a simple carb rebuild.

Nice work mate! Gotta be the best carbed bf50 on the planet I reckon. I have a 2004 bf40, these old Honda's are awesome motors!

@@fixinandfishin8580 where did you get the parts? We have a 1998 bf40 and it has low compression on all 3 was it hard for you to find piston rings?

Very nice work and thanks for sharing all this work with the rest of the world, this is very helpful! I am also working on a BF50A and i have one little question regarding the primary gear case gasket and the oil pan gasket, when mounting the new gaskets must i also add a little bit of gasket sealant paste on them or can they go in without ?
@fixinandfishin85802 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your comment! I didn’t add any gasket sealing paste to the new oil pan gasket between it and the gear case and it has worked fine. One spot I had to go back and add some was on the head gasket. I had a few drops of water coming out around the new gasket. I went back with a non setting gasket maker on the head. I pulled the head back off and applied it between the gasket and the mating surface and it worked like a charm.

Cool job. I just threw the bottom cylinder rod through my crankcase cover on my 1998 Bf90a. The motor didn't stop running but I shut it off, with few options restarted. I was alone on a big lake in November near dark in Maine...brrr. I knew of nobody who could come and help me. I had no kicker and was 1+ miles from shore. I started and idled in. The overheat alarm would sound when over very slow but would stop sounding at dead slow. Is it possible to repair? Most likely the lowest cylinder wall is scored, the crank cover has holes, maybe the crank has chunks removed? But it still turns over easily. Is it a Gonner or should I take it apart?
@fixinandfishin85802 жыл бұрын
Anything can be fixed. You would have to find out what the parts cost and see if it is worth it to you to fix it. It might be pricy to have someone do that. If you do it yourself, it may be an option at that point. Goodluck John

The motor was off the boat and back on in a little over a month. I worked on it during weekends and a little before work. Really fun build with a lot of work into it. Thanks for watching.

I didn't see the new parts, what did you have to put in it and what were the approximate hours on it?
@fixinandfishin85803 жыл бұрын
I had a table laid out with gaskets other pieces to put it back together. The wear on the engine components was minimal. Just had oil leaks where the main seals were. That was my main problem along with some corrosion issues on this one.

This is a pretty good video but I think it's more of an engine freshen up it's definitely not a rebuild didn't replace the crank didn't even really clean the carbon off the Pistons didn't replace the wrist pin bearings or wrist pins didn't replace the Pistons didn't home a cylinders this was kind of just more of a freshen up
