For me preppy is a timeless classic. It may be difficult to organize the whole outfit, so it might be a good idea to drop one thing or two.

I think the preppy style won’t ever go out of trend, but stacking only preppy/classic pieces together in one outfit can definitely feel like costume-y, too formal & modern (western) European for most ppl living in America working in cities or jobs that have more casual dress codes.

I love the point you made about burgundy! I almost exclusively wear burgundy purses for that exact reason. I’m not really much of a “switching purses to go with each outfit” kind of person, and it goes well with most basic colors, transitions from season to season, and it looks intentional and elevated.

I’m loving that burgundy color on you. Never been an orange fan, but I found a cashmere camel color sweater that I might try with a button down. I’m still a fan of preppy!

I love how you described your evolution. I often have the same desire for preppy coming from the East Coast, but too much of a good things feels masculine on me. I've been trying to add feminine details on top like romantic sweaters and blouses, but keeping my shoes masculine. I also add a mix of feminine and masculine details to my jewelry.

Burgundy is an underrated colour. I have a pair of boots and a pair of gloves in burgundy and they just go with so much in my wardrobe - I love them.

I adore academia fashion and British heritage looks like vintage Ralph Lauren. I struggle to put together an outfit that suits my frame and my favorite “ look”. I am a soft natural so I need my collar bones exposed and a loose bohemian effect to look my best. I compromise by wearing boat neck cashmere sweaters, French tucked into long plaid wool maxi skirts with tights and oxfords. I get some elements of preppy fashion but also honor my lines. I used to try and wear button up collared shirts with short skirts and I couldn’t understand why something felt so stupid looking on me when I loved the look on other women. It’s because I have a different shape than those women, I am long, broad and curvy so I now opt for long and flowing clothing and I feel so effortless and chic now ❤️

I love your choice of colors, you look stunning in them. For me being tan skinned, I love mustard yellow, maroon, reds, purple,wines, I just feel I am happy and they seem to blend well with my skin.

Yes to you wearing the 'cooler' colors! As a redhead, burgundy doesn't work on me although I love it! I wear it as an accent in a scarf or boot but keep my olive greens, golds, and rusts and creams near my face.

Warm colors don’t work for my skin tone either. I used to try to force mustard to work for me because I love it and it’s to quintessential Fall. I’m so glad the jewel toned greens are back in!

Thank you so much for what you said about drawing inspiration from nature without going straight to stereotypical autumn colours if they don't suit you. I have a very cool skin tone, but I'm lucky enough to live by the sea, so I look at the changing blues and blue-greens of the water to steer me away from past mistakes involving warmer colours. There are also purple blackberries, lilac and pink clouds, grey rocks... I just need to override that urge to represent pumpkins and falling leaves in my outfit! I'll leave that to my Calico cat.

I agree that most traditional fall colors can start to feel less practical for a more curated style if it's worn too much. With where my style is at now, I honestly prefer more neutral tones like brown, a lighter-toned green, black or beige.

When i was a young professional, my shoes were three pairs of comfortable suede pumps one in burgundy, one in navy and one in gray. They worked with everything.

I would love to see a video on having you go through your sweaters to see what you keep and what you toss. My declutter of my sweaters was so liberating. I just purchased a pair of beautiful burgundy ankle boots. I am still deciding whether to keep them or not, but they do look great with blues, blacks and greys.

I think you may be a deep winter, hence why deep jewel tones and grey look so much better on you than typical autumn colors ❤

I totally agree with the costume concept when choosing various outfits. I love items that could be labelled preppy but have to be careful how I wear them otherwise I do look like I'm playing dress up. Some women look absolutely amazing but I have a petite, curvy figure and if I go head to toe it looks off and I feel conspicuous. Would love to see your sweater collection Audrey. I love burgundy and all the berry shades for autumn, the same with greens. Like you, I don't suit those warm colours as much. I agree, mixing up preppy pieces feels much more current and less costumey. It's great to see your style evolve, Audrey.

I completely understand trading in the oranges for bordeaux. I’m so cool toned, it just doesn’t work for me. Also, I have stopped coloring my hair. My natural white/gray just won’t work with those colors!

I feel like I am going through the same transition. Really evaluating my wardrobe to see what truly compliments my skin tone (dark, soft and warm). I am also finally letting go of the notion that black is the ultimate neutral and venturing into richer camels and lighter grays and cream colors. I am on a massive hunt for some burgundy colors or oxblood. Those rich reds will go beautifully with darker camel and grays. I would LOVE a video on how you cull your sweaters. Hello Audrey. The reason why you might not feel very comfortable in autumn-y colours is because I believe you are a winter colorimetry, so (as I understand it) you look best in cold colours in their "truer " shade, like purple, dark blue or garnet. I hope that helps :)

I haven't watched your channel for ages so it was nice to see it pop up...I like the Burgundy, I am using more of it too but I think the Green looked really striking on you...

The older we become the more time we have had to experiment with different styles, colors etc. For me preppy means classic, and sometimes it might feel boring. I try to get one or two trendy pieces to spice my style up a little bit. A change of colors sometimes means a change in our mood. Happier people tend to wear more colors. But again I've met some people being completely happy in their dark colors.

Yes, please share where your sweaters are from. I’m cool to neutral toned for all intents and purposes a “winter” and I have and had a horrible time finding clothes in cooler shades. Everything is very warm toned, especially now.

Wow I love your leather blazer!

I was really into Color Me Beautiful in the -- ʻ80s?? when it came out. I was an Autumn and I did the whole wardrobe thing that they outlined for Autumns. You are clearly a Winter. I canʻt do the burgundies and deep jewel tones that you can do, but I can do browns. I notice that as I age, as my skin changes and my hair is naturally gradient-ing itself into browns and whites, Iʻm able to wear more Winter colors and mix a bit of Winter wardrobe pieces with Autumn colors.

Yes! So important to listen to our intuition to contact what colours make us feel happy and own it, wear it rather than trying to fit into a box like at the fall I need to wear those colours but instead of wearing colours & clothes that you are great your best 💯 YOU!

the grey skirt with the burgundy sweater reminds me of my high school uniform. we had the choice of navy or burgundy sweaters and we had a grey skirt, not plaid but grey lol. it still looks nice but is totally something I've avoided as an adult, I'll do it with pants but not a skirt. I loved your look though, the knee high boots made it very cute.

I'm letting go of black and grey! I am so drawn to the depth, but it doesn't suit me the way a dark brown or rust does. I think both of us have similar contrast, but I'm on the slightly warm end and you're on the cooler toned end, so I'm turning up the warmth and you're turning it down for the fall versions of our best colors :) mustard is one of my signature colors, one of my friends in college could pick me out by my mustard sweaters and tops in the fall and winter season.

Yes, please on the sweater process. Also, I recently had my colors professionally analyzed recently and it took the guess work out of what looks best with my skin undertones. It makes shopping so much easier! I was wearing many of the wrong colors for me (black, white, gray).

I recently had my colors done and found out that I was wearing all the wrong colors. I am a Winter, and eggplant, burgundy, navy, gray all work well, but orange, yellow and beige are terrible. I just thought I had to wear those colors in Autumn to follow trends. I love those colors but not on my body. It all makes sense when you figure out your skin undertone and then have your colors done. Love your content!
