I placed a mirror in the middle of the garden for our outdoor cats and this was their reaction after seeing themselves in a mirror for the first time in their lives!

All our front yard cats were in this video except The Big Head and Vasak. But don't worry; both will have their solo videos very soon. It took my cat approximately three months to figure out a full-length mirror. She would scratch at it vigorously at first (she hated other cats). I realized she had finally gotten it when I said her name and, instead of turning around to look at me, she looked up at my reflection in the mirror. So cute!

@@g-a-i-l- D'Art's girlfriend is the black and white cat in the mirror on the bottom right. She starts to walk off to the right and at that very moment, Princess walks out from behind the mirror. So it gives the illusion that the black and white cat (D'Art's girlfriend) suddenly transforms into Princess! 🤣

Impressive how friendly they approach the mirror, as they are used to have a lot of cats around them. Especially Junior with a greeting tail! My indoor cats tried to scare the "new cat" away with a lot of hissing and fluffy tails

That is interesting to note - yes, unlike many animals vs. mirrors, I wonder if these cats are so used to see Other Cats that they simply view their reflections as Just Another One. I think Walter should think of adding nametags. "Hi. My name is PORTHOS" ... "My name is JUNIOR" and so on.

The cats seem to be such intelligent creatures. They are doing everything they can (looking behind the mirror, moving their heads up and down) to try to understand what they are seeing. Some of them stopped with one paw in the air as though they were surprised and thoughtful. It is fascinating to watch their behavior.

Intelligent? They’ve never seen a reflection of themselves, say in a body of still water? They seem more perplexed that someone planted a mirror in the middle of a yard. All I see is cats treating the mirror like one big piece of furniture, hardly a fascination with their reflected images. They’re looking the side, the cameraman’s reflection, eachother … barely at themselves!

Princess was definitely admiring her image in the mirror. Mommy looked worried, as if it would be a threat to her kittens. Then she seems to realize that she is retired from the mommy business, and there's nothing to bother her. Dart looks at the mirror, assessing its danger to the kitty clan, decides it's nothing to worry about, and rests in a regal pose.

They are familiar with glass. (Come into contact with it on a daily basis)... But reflections aren't that common "in the wild" (Although they could experience reflections in the various windows)

They are all very fascinated by seeing their image in the mirror and they have such vastly varied ways of reacting. This video was such a lot of fun. Princess has verified and certified for all time that she is Stunningly Gorgeous and Perfect from all angles. There were even some who tried to look quick behind them in the direction that the mirror cat seem to be looking.

It's funny how each of the cats have a different reaction to the mirror but the majority of them have to check behind it to make sure there isn't a cat there. Porthos was the most fascinated with it though, he couldn't leave it alone. The strange cat that looked like him and copied his every move. 😆

Everyone else has a similar view of Mommy to yours, but to me, it seemed as if she might have made a connection between the reflections and the 3D cats she could also see at the same time from where she was sitting. And, in a later shot of her I thought she was trying to puzzle out how exactly you get a wall to provide duplications, lol.

In the older videos, Pamuk Jr is as fluffy as Pamuk but in here PJ looks much slimmer. Actually at the beginning of the video I thought it was PJ.

Across the known Universe and beyond, everybody was waiting for.....THE STARE 👀! I loved the last moments, with D’Art doing a lounge lizard impersonation on the terrace, as though he was just waiting to be served his catnip Martini. Lady Miss 👑La Principessa predictably sussed out maximum adoration possibilities, whereby remaining on the shelfy bit ensured those peering in gave her twice the usual notice. (She initially gave the mirror a haughty glance as though to say ‘Whomst dareth enter my garden wearing such fabulous eye makeup?) Was that Mommy cat (I didn’t catch the face fast enough) caught in close up, witnessing a paparazzi-worthy kiss between Lady Miss 👑 P and the Purring Cat? I was kind of surprised that none of the cats hissed or swatted at their reflections, but maybe because there wasn't anything different to smell, they weren't concerned. After all, they're used to being around all the other cats 😊

Enruchment!, Not sure many of the cats saw themselves...they were too close, I think.. they might see themselves if they were > 10 + inches away as cats' near vision isn't really clear... A few seemed to really look at themselves while approaching the beautiful mirror! Fun to watch all of these beautifully marked cats!

Not being able to "smell the other cats" must have been the biggest mystery to them... lol I love how you find such original ways to enrich their lives!! I'm fefinitely going to try to come up with some ideas myself for the (now 12) outside "community cats" who come inside to eat, and socialize with my two indoor cats, besides boxes and catnip!
