You love lighting the short side. Dont see it too often but the results speak for themselves. Gonna try this out more myself. Great vid Kyle. Keep em coming.

This way of lighting works well on cloudy but not on a sunny day.

This video is awesome. The technique of using the strobe as rim light with the ambient as key is pretty brilliant. I typically let the sun become the rim. I love this technique. Gotta use it more.

Kyle, great information! It looks as though your stand has the ability to adjust for uneven ground. What type of stand is it?

It is nice to see the placement of the flash. But can u also include one of two screenshots or settings so we know what it would have looked like when the flashes is not triggered?

I'll take a couple of natural light only shots next time.

Such a great video! May I ask what brand/model of light stand you're using in this shoot?
Dear Kyle please can you a behind the scenes video of ambient golden/blue hour portrait shoot in the nature with old trees, water or stones ❤

Great video! How would you use the flash if this was in daylight with the son? What would your flash and camera settings be?
@KyleCongphoto5 ай бұрын
The position of the lighting will be different, camera setting will be about same other than lower ISO and using darker ND filter.

Hi Kyle! This was a very nice tutorial, I'm looking into flash photography but I'm not sure I can afford a Profoto flash. Is there an alternative you recommend for me to be able to do this setup?
@KyleCongphoto4 ай бұрын
You can use any brand. Just make sure it’s not too heavy. No need to buy the powerful flash like 500 or 600 ws lights. 200-250ws will do. Don’t use large light modifier either.

Hi, Kyle. Nice video. I have a very specific question that I've asked others and can't seem to get a response in a way that makes sense to me. Maybe you can help. I'm shooting a DSLR and using my light meter to set the background exposure. Most people I've asked are using mirrorless and using the back screen to set their exposure. Could you tell me if you're a full stop underexposed? I like your look, but I'm hoping for a slightly (maybe a half stop at most) brighter background and I need to figure out what I'm looking for on my meter. I'm trying to be more consistent from shot to shot instead of re-inventing the wheel each location and wasting my model's time. Any advice would be appreciated.

I don't have a go to number on the f stops of underexpose or overexpose for the background. I just go with the look. I do the same even during the time I was shooting with DSLR. There are many things are like this. Like the setting of our light or camera. There is no go to number and it shouldn't be. Depends on the shooting location, and the weather, sometimes you have to over or under expose a bit base on your camera reading. But even the camera reading can be off. Nothing is more consistent than your eyes. What you see and how you see it will ultimately define your style. So don't rely on the equipment. I suggest you not using the lighting meter and just check the photos on the camera when you shoot. This might be able to speed up your flow a bit. But, there is really no rush for this. Good art takes time, your model should understand this.

I used a Profoto B10 and 1x3' softbox. But the brand doesn't matter.
